  1. Possibly the best Samuel L. Jackson picture ever!
  2. 10 minutes, but very nicely done compilation of all sorts of extreme sports action. http://www.youtube.com/embed/hUj65M4T1cg?feature=player_embedded

  4. I agree. It's a great quote, no matter where it came from.
  5. I've read elsewhere that he didn't actually ever say that. http://juicenothing.blogspot.com/2012/08/john-lennonstephen-king-did-not-say-this.html Here's another place, where a bunch of crazy people get all up in arms arguing about it and calling each other names... like it's the end of the world one way or another. http://thedamienzone.com/2011/11/19/john-lennon-quote-when-i-was-5-years-fake-hoax/
  6. St. Louis cocksuckers! Well, at least Al was also cheering for them. I've got some friends in St. Louis as well, so I'm happy for them. But I'm definitely fired up about the Dodgers with the exception of Brian Wilson who is a complete douce bag. (Sorry Al, but maybe you'll get the satisfaction of having the Red Sox beat them in the world series.)
  7. Ok, so just don't let it be the Cardinals again. I'm sick of them (same with the Braves). The Dodgers and Pirates have both been great stories this year, and their fan support has been amazing, so their home games are great fun to watch. As for the Red Sox, A's, and Tigers... meh. I'm not a lover or a hater of any of them. They're all great teams. I knew it was a pipe dream as far as the Rays go. Hell, I was at a Rays game in September against the Rangers, who they were tied with for the wildcard lead with only 2 weeks left in the season, and there were only 11,000 people in the Trop. What a shame. In truth, they (meaning Tampa, not the organization itself) really don't deserve a winner. Boston deserves to win, as does Pittsburgh, Detroit does, etc. I was at a game in Fenway a couple of years ago when the Red Sox were out of contention, and the place was still sold out and rockin' every time the Sox scored or made a good play on defense. Truly an awesome place to take in a game because their fans "get it" and don't treat baseball like a yawner sport.
  8. "Boston cock suckers!" (From Deadwood, as modified.) So now I'm hoping for the A's to win out in the AL and either the Pirates or the Dodgers in the NL. But no strong favorites still in the hunt at this point, so in all seriousness, best of luck to those of you who give a shit about one team or another.
  9. Just wait until you see the suit I'll be wearing it with.
  10. Yup! I'm thinking they'll work well with the MILF crowd.
  11. Bought another red fedora: http://www.villagehatshop.com/jaxon-pachuco-c-crown-crushable-fedora-red.html
  12. I've been to 8 or 9 Rays games this year, so I've sort of become a fan. I'm also a big Vin Scully fan, so it would be great to see the Dodgers win. The A's have been a fun story these past two years, and same with the Pirates this year. I'm not a "hater" of any of the other teams (Red Sox, Cardinals, Tigers, or Braves) but they've all had a lot of success in recent years, so I'm pulling for the underdogs.
  13. Yup! This world will fuck you up if you're not careful, and sadly, for many people it's just a given that they'll be fucked up. They don't have to do anything "wrong" to get in that situation, and they're pretty much helpless once they get off their meds.
  14. Sad news, Steve. Even though you didn't hear about it for years, it's still news to you. I hear what you're saying about mental health, and the fact (I think it's a fact anyway) that the medical community doesn't take it as seriously as they do other illnesses.
  15. That is scary, and seems to be a trend among young-ish people. I had lost track of Tom and we were never particularly close to begin with, but it's still a melancholy feeling to know that someone as young as yourself has taken his last breath.
  16. Leave it to me to start this thread. Just got word that a high school classmate died yesterday. Tom McNally was his name. He was the first to die of 102 from our class, at age 51, so I guess we've all been pretty lucky to this point. Quiet guy who became an accountant and did the whole wife and kids thing. He and I and another high school classmate were on the same drinking night bowling team in college, and he never complained about any of my gutter balls.
  17. RIP, Leonard. Sucks when cancer gets someone so young and unprepared to let go of this precious life.
  18. You must have missed it:
  19. Yup, this is perfect. I'm glad you guys get the spirit of the thread. Like I say, it's such a fleeting existence and a lot of people do some pretty cool things with their lives that so many of us never know about.
  20. I'm not sure if the humor translates, but there is a thread with this title on the Big Lebowski forum, which always makes me chuckle. I guess because I have a sick sense of humor but still view life as a precious gift even though I realize that our existence is fleeting. It's not meant to be disrespectful to the newly dead; quite the contrary. The idea is to pause for a moment to honor the lives of those who have touched our lives in one way or another through some form of notoriety or celebrity status (be it music, the arts, entertainment, sports, politics, science, whatever). This way, there won't be a need for threads like the one I started tonight: "RIP L.C. Geenwood" in which 63 people viewed, said "Meh..." and moved on. This is not, however, the place to post if a relative or close friend has passed, for whom you wish to honor separately, or if someone like Michael Jackson or Princess Diana dies suddenly in a shocking way. More of a "some fuck or another" who added meaning to your life, but may or may not be known to others.

  22. Same with me. Every time I've ever had a problem, I just walk in and they take care of it. "Oh, that new screen will cost you $900. No, sorry, it's not covered under AppleCare. But let me see what I can do for you, Santa." It does have its perks...but I did get the 3-year AppleCare coverage on my new 15" MBP Retina, just to be safe. I know it's not exactly a "news flash" but the retina resolution is crazy good. I ran an HDMI cable from the laptop to the 50" Panasonic VT25 that's in the bedroom of my motorhome. The TV is so close to my viewing position that my feet can touch the bottom of it, and I've always loved watching movies in there for the full immersion effect it has. Didn't think it could be any better. Nope! I was wrong. The retina display blows it away, and I'd imagine that would still be true with the latest and greatest plasma displays (realizing, of course, that the VT25 is no longer the end game). Makes me wonder how the retina display would compare to a ZT60.
  23. Happy birthday, birthday brother!
  24. Damit, Jimmy!!! One day you'll catch me, but I won't know about it! Thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone. You're a bunch of good people. I've been watching a lot of baseball this weekend, enjoying the wind down of the regular season. It's such a great sport; even after 161 games have been played, game number 162 still matters to a lot of teams! Also learned last night that a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue is good for two birthdays. Or at least half of a fresh bottle is now gone!
