Small review on the SACDMODS Denon 2910!
Yikes replied to Chrysanthemum's topic in Home Source Components
John Tucker sent me a bunch of tubes to try. I put a set in and if it sounds good I go with them. I?m not into swapping tubes, especially when it involves unhooking the gear and removing covers. I used the Esoteric as an example, because of its price. Not because it is a comparable performer. FYI Apparently there are some heat issues with the Exemplar modded Denons. Several 2900?s have had transport failures, and my 3910 has also had a transport fail (It?s at the repair shop as I type this ). I have sourced an ultra quiet 12v-cooling fan (40mm) that I am going to mount in the unit. Very low volume (about 1.2 cfm), but it should be enough to exchange the air in the chassis every minute or so. The important thing is that it will be very quiet . -
Glad that you?re enjoying them. I was one of the first proponents of the 701?s . I?m still waiting for my own set. I believe them to be the best all around headphone currently available. Certainly they are among the elite 5. I hope to have my set by late April.

For a long time my most hated song was Tony DeFranco and the DeFranco Family "Heartbeat (It's a Love Beat)" But it has been surpassed by Acky Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cirus. VOMIT What's your MOST HATED song?

Actually Politics free from Religion is the way it is suppose to be. Unfortunately with the way that the Neo-Cons pander to the religious right separation of church and state is a quickly disappearing proposition.

Bright can be caused by two things: Too much High Frequency energy And (Much more common) High Frequency distortion. The Toe In of your speakers won?t help the 2nd but with the design of your speakers toe in can have a dramatic affect on the amount of high frequency energy that you hear at your listening position.
-
Sorry I was not purposely ignoring your query. Dispersion ?to cause to become spread widely? It?s how the sound comes out of and spreads into a room. Modern speakers that almost all use a small tweeter tend to have very wide dispersion. Speakers with wide dispersion tend to image better. Tweeters (Drivers that reproduce high frequencies) are usually small. The reason is actually twofold: 1) A small driver has much better dispersion* and 2) A small driver can be made much lighter (Less Mass) being lighter it takes much less energy to start and stop the drivers motion. With less mass the driver is faster and can follow the input signal more closely i.e. Less Distortion. Better dispersion? When the wavelength of the sound being reproduced becomes shorter than the diameter of the driving surface the waveform that is produced begins to beam. The waveform no longer spreads out. This adversely affects imaging. It will also mean that if the listener is off axis they will not hear the high frequencies that are beaming. 20 Hertz wavelength is 56 Feet 100 Hertz wavelength is 11 Feet 1000 Hertz wavelength is 13.5 inches 10000 Hertz wavelength is 1.35 inches So a single driver system is bad engineering for two reasons: The driver is (by comparison) very massive and therefore slower and has much greater high frequency Distortion (being that it can?t accurately follow the input signal). And The Diver has very poor high frequency dispersion.

I don?t see why ?We don't want manufacturers promoting products through Head-Case discussion forums? As long as they are clearly delineated as MOT. Can?t we assume that our members are intelligent enough to differentiate between an independent post and a biased manufacturers post? Tyll?s posts are always information-oriented posts. They explain some aspect of his products. I find nothing wrong with information posts. Now if he was posting how great model x223 is and that it beats everything else on the market for under $500 and it only sells for $199.99 shipping included, that would be shameless shilling and should be verboten.

ExSqueeze Me? I?m a member of the trade, but I have never tried in anyway to promote my products here. I will talk about the fact that I own Exemplar pieces (that use Siltech) and that I have rewired some of my headphones with Siltech. When anyone has asked about my stuff in an open forum I actually discourage them from using it (specifically about my rewires). I bend way over backwards to separate my job from my geeky headphone hobby. The only reason I let anyone know that I was a MOT is that I read the rules (some of the moderators should) over at Head-Fi and I endeavor to live within the rules. Sorry I started on page two of this thread, and I wrote this reply after reading Tyll?s post. I?ll now go back to page 1 and read the thread.

Someone dislikes me? Me? I was under the impression that I am universally loved and admired. I am disliked? Where is my S&W 629. I?m feeling decidedly suicidal. I left because I could no longer tolerate the moderation. I?m sure that there are some moderators that do a good job, but others delete threads and posts for no known reason. The problem is that as a member we have no way of knowing who is doing said deleting. Someone else started a thread criticizing some aspects of the moderation. I chimed in. The next thing I know the entire thread was gone. As usual there was no PM with an explanation for the removal. When threads and posts are being deleting for just criticizing the moderators, I figure it?s time to leave. Funny, if someone in power disliked me I never heard a hint of it. Not that it would trouble me much. It is indicative of the level of PUSSYDOM achieved by some of the moderators. Many of the most prominent members of Head-Fi are sycophants of unparalleled magnitude. Am I going to the National? Well as of yesterday I was still on the list. My Exemplar 3910 is out being repaired, and it?s questionable if it will be back in time. I may come sans equipment. Ethan

They weren?t garbage until you defiled them. You?ve discovered Siltech?s secret. It?s the chicken flavoring that makes them sound so fabulous.

So guess what is on the truck for delivery :)

So that?s where Salt unloaded his amp after my amp kicked its ASS Actually it?s a great amp, Congratulations! -
Ho letto appena l'intero articolo Era molto divertente Sovkiller ? un crybaby e una ragazza piccola. Giudicando come il upset lui ? diventato dal ha ovviamente a Poco belino

Which car is better a Ferrari or a Bentley? Or a Hummer? Or a Prius?

My amp started life as an Antique Sound Labs OTL/32. It then went to Exemplar Audio (along with my K1000?s for proper voicing) to be modified. Everything in the signal path is Siltech G5 (of course) and everything is now shunt regulated. All caps and resistors in the signal path were replaced or bypassed with much better pieces. The cost? Who knows? I am a friend with John at Exemplar so he did it as a favor to me (not free, but not what he would charge). If a civilian were to have the same thing done it would cost in the $1500 to $2000 range. (not counting the amp) Some very experienced members of Head-Fi who heard it at one of a couple of meets that I attended commented that my system was amongst the true reference quality systems that they had heard. I do know that I have compared it to some killer production amps in the $1000 to $4000 range and my amp came out very well. It drove the K1000?s wonderfully.

I am currently waiting for my 701?s. I sold my K1000?s because both the 701?s and my Siltech cabled Sony MDR-SA5000?s are much better all around cans. On the right recording the K1000?s are the best headphones available, the problem is that there aren?t enough ?right recordings?. I found myself using the K1000?s once or twice a month, and that didn?t justify keeping them. I have not listened to the K340?s since they were actually in production (when?). They were nice, but I wasn?t as impressed as I am with any of my current cans (or the K1000?s). I would bet that the big difference is the dramatic improvements in Amps and Sources. I?m sure that when I listened to the K340?s it was being driven by a Luxman? Receiver, along with either a cassette deck or an early cheap CD player. Even though I consider my auditory memory to be exceptional I am aware of the difference in the systems used when I auditioned the K340?s. Perhaps they do rival the K701?s. But, I doubt it.

Is that like a time out? Welcome from a HeadCase old timer. I joined hours before you did.

Small review on the SACDMODS Denon 2910!
Yikes replied to Chrysanthemum's topic in Home Source Components
Many of the mods are worthwhile from a price performance standpoint. Where they are not worthwhile is in equipment equity. What do I mean? Here is an example. I have a loaded Exemplar 3910 including the Siltech G6 and all other options. My player retails for about $5500. The good: As far as performance goes it is in the same league as the two piece players from DCS and EMM for far less than half the cost. The bad: Resale value. Loaded Exemplars bring between $1500 and $2500. Now lets look at the Esoteric DV-50 ($5500) retail. A good performer for the price. Used they bring $3000 to $4000. So if you intend on using the piece until it dies a modified unit makes great sense. However if you enjoy changing equipment every year or so you?ll end up taking a fairly significant monetary hit upon resale of any modified unit. The same thing holds true with my other hobby, Motorcycles. My 2000 Hayabusa has about $4000 in modifications, but used it might bring $200 to $500 more than a completely stock model. At some point the modifications will actually begin to make the bike worth less than a stock model. Ethan -
Let me get this straight; you went from a well-designed high quality Vandersteen to what I can only refer to as a poorly designed piece of audiophilia voo doo. The speaker as its designed would exhibit Extremely poor high frequency dispersion. Normally I?d say change the amount of toe in with such a speaker, but based upon your photo you don?t toe them in. Stranger and stranger. If you were looking for speakers that would offer a better overall balance, I?d look for a speaker that has a tweeter and at least one woofer, and most importantly a crossover. I?m particularly fond of the new Dali speakers. The Dali Ikon series offers tremendous price/performance ratio. They are well-designed speakers. They use a ribbon super tweeter, but don?t worry. They are not bright. They have the sweetest top end of any speaker in the price range. Oh.. by the way. I have nothing to do with Dali. It?s just that I am impressed by the modestly priced Ikon series. Sorry for knocking the design of your speakers, but I calls them as I see them.

Ahhh? This warm outpouring of greetings has warmed the cockles of my heart, and I don?t even know what the fuck cockles are! They did delete my farewell message. They must have put it back up, but why lock it? That?s right folks I came here to sell Siltech cables just like I always did at Head-Fi. Hold on to your wallets. I have no problem with foul language (I spent six years in the Navy). Some people should probably learn that if you use curse words all the time they sort of loose their significance.

Hello All! I finally got fed up with the thought police over at Head-Fi, so I posted a farewell message saying goodbye and a little on why I was leaving. Nothing defamatory, just saying that I could not tolerate the moderators arbitrary enforcement of the rules and their deleting things just because they could. I then logged off. I went back to read any responses to my farewell (as a guest), and the f----ers deleted my farewell message. Oh?well. So here I am. I?ll see how things go here. Only time will tell whether the members here can tolerate me or not. Does this mean that I can?t go to the National? \
