The official bitching and whining because you didn't get an HF-1 thread
Yikes replied to hungrych's topic in Headphones
In reality I should have the MOT taken off. I am in the High End Audio industry, but in no way have I ever hawked or promoted my product here or on Head-Fi. I have basically gotten tired of treading on eggs for fear that anyone might think ill of me and therefore of my employer. On this and the other forum the only person or thing that I represent is myself. Headphones and posting on this site (and occasionally the other) are things that I do, Not that I do while representing my employer. Jahn, You are many things (I?m sure that we all could name them if you insist), but a Pussy is not something that comes to mind. As far as tyre goes, he stated some opinions that I felt were at best na?ve, and certainly a bit disingenuous. He?s self-deluding himself if he believes that he would sell a set of HF-1?s or any other headphones for that matter at less than he paid if he could get more. Can you imagine what he would have done if we all piled on the way we did to Billy a couple of weeks ago. He would have gone and slit his wrists. I do believe that it is a little scummy to buy a set and turn them without ever using them, although people do have the right to be scummy. I see nothing wrong with buying a set and after a period of time deciding that you?d prefer to have the $300 or $400 instead. -
Who has a DVD-Audio player? And what type of music do you like? I recently went thru my collection and found multiple duplicates of some of my DVD-Audio discs. I intend on giving them away to some lucky Head-Case member/s. I?ll post a list and I?ll have to figure out how the lucky people will pay for the shipping (I?m not going to pay for giving stuff away). My one caveat is that I don?t want to give these away so that someone can sell them. So recipients are honor bound to NOT RESELL these discs. If I find out that any recipients don?t have a DVD-Audio player, I?ll Kick their ASS! If I find the discs being resold, I?ll kick your ASS! If you say anything about my Mother I?ll kick your ASS! I?ll post a list of the discs tonight when I get home.

I have a cheap source. I?m a longtime audiophile snob, and it just isn?t the same. I?m going to harass the repair shop today.

Damn! ?Thin Skinned? Don?t you mean No Skinned. No one was the least bit rough with you. Head-Fi might even be too rough for a NO Skinned whiney pussy bitch such as you. -

You headphone profiteering whore! You?re gonna burn in headphone hell for making a profit and abusing the headphone community at large by selling John Grados magnanimous product offering. Modding the HF-1?s is akin to painting a mustache on the Mona Lisa. Err? maybe not -
Doh! (Slapping self in head!) I didn?t realize that you weren?t referring to my post.

You?ll only watch virtual reality of sucking if Richard Dawson does it? And I thought that I was twisted.

Hopefully we can look forward to the day when TV, with the help of virtual reality truly does SUCK.

I disagree. If they showed only hard core porn I?d only be able to watch for 3 minutes a day.

Well while browsing I got confirmation of the cancellation of two of the few shows that I liked. I really liked Surface and it is definitely gone. Invasion is also history. Invasion started slower but in the end I was caught up in it. I also looked at the announced new shows, and not one looks like I?d find it interesting. Shows that I will watch if I get a chance. How I Met Your Mother ? The only comedy that I currently watch. Neil Patrick Harris is fantastic as Barney. Law and order C.I. Lost Smallville On pay TV. It's cheaper to not subscribe and buy the DVD's when they are released. Weeds Deadwood I can?t remember TV ever being this crappy, ever.

If you are looking for SACD?s there are also the Ben Zander Telarc discs. Zander has done 1,3,4,5,6,9 I have all of them (As well as all of the MTT). Unfortunately no 2nd yet, and Telarc says it?s not forthcoming. Overall I think I prefer the Zander, although I am in no way disappointed that I purchased the MTT. Zander is actually a well-known Mahlerite. His 6th is to die for, and I adore his Songs of a Wayfarer that?s on the disc with the 1st. I have a large Mahler collection of which I just went thru the Hi-rez section, and I?m missing several discs. Zander?s 9th and MTT 4th (along with a Shostakovich 11th that I love) are MIA. Shit! Now I?m going to be up all night looking for them.

Me thinkest you be mistaken. The San Francisco Michael Tilson Thomas Mahler (Hybrid SACD/CD) releases have been released when ready, and since they are still lacking No. 5 and No. 8 and the unfinished 10th it?s hardly a complete cycle. I just looked at their web site and you can buy a Mahler Collection (Box set) to save a little money, but it?s not a complete cycle.

The closest thing to a SACD Mahler cycle is the SFS Thomas. I like them a lot, but talk about expensive http://www.shopsfsymphony.org/generic.jsp?id=MAHLER_PROJECT_OVERVIEW

I didn?t say that Optical was inferior to Coaxial. What I said was that TOS Link was inferior. I?ve been told that the basic problem is that TOS does not use glass, and that it does not have the bandwidth to do the job well, plus the connector does not provide a good interface. Whether this is true, I don?t know. I have however done several comparisons (Years ago) where TOS was handily beaten by every other format. Best to Worst. 1)ATT Fiber Optic (real glass with a premium connection) Almost never used any more. Very expensive. 2)AES/EBU 110 Ohm digital cable XLR?s 3)SPDIF Coax with BNC?s 4)SPDIF Coax with RCA?s 5)TOS Link In my experience the difference between #5 and #4 is greater than the difference between #4 and #1

I use to be of the opinion that the transport didn?t matter nearly as much as the D/A. I believed that the resultant sound quality was due to 90% D/A and 10% transport. Then I did a demo that was truly eye opening. The D/A was the one built into the Sunfire Home Theater Pre-amp Processor. The two players that acted as the transports were; the best Arcam DVD Player (FMJ? $2200?), and the $4200 Meridian DVD Player. So obviously the D/A was not reference quality, but the equipment involved was of decent quality. Short and sweet. The difference was not subtle. With the meridian the system sounded MUCH better. The customer was not an audiophile, and he gladly ponied up the money for the Meridian. So the difference was significant enough for a non-audiophile (i.e. Non-critical) to hear and appreciate the difference. I came away from this demo with a radically different opinion of the relative importance of the D/A and the associated transport. I now believe that it?s more in the range of 50/50. I came away impressed with the performance of the Meridian DVD player as a transport, and decidedly unimpressed with the Arcam. Once I get my Denon 3910 (Exemplar) back I?ll be able to compare it to my Pioneer 563 as a transport, but such a comparison doesn?t help much here. In essence the Transport to D/A interface is very system dependent. I wouldn?t assume that a specific player is a good transport. Auditioning is critical, especially with the D/A that you?ll be using. Also don?t underestimate the impact of the digital cable that is used. Always use coax over TOS link. TOS truly sucks.

While playing Signal 90 db Noise 3 db Signal to noise ratio 30/1 With no input Backgroun noise 1 db Signal 0 Noise to Signal ratio = Infinity They therefore have Infinite Noise. And these are good headphones? Congratulations! They look nice. I?ll get to hear them after Haj buys a set

I don?t know Blackie, and at the National I missed listening to his amp. Until the exact circuit topology is decided the builder shall remain anonymous. I will say that he is definitely not a DIYer. There are probably hints in my past postings that would give the identity away. Hell if it?s as good as we anticipate it might just make it into production. I just might keep it a secret, with occasional photos of the build process.

I have recently come to an agreement with a very talented builder. He is going to build two reference tube amplifiers (One for himself and one for me). It?s going to be a two chassis, all premium parts, Siltech G6 point to point wiring tube amplifier. He?s a single ended guy and I remain unconvinced that balanced is worth the trouble. So it?s going to be single ended. Since my source is single ended only it should work out well. We?re still working out the exact circuit topology and ergonomics of the units; number of inputs, type of volume control, preamp outputs ect. I?ll be lucky if I get the finished amp by September. I think it?s more likely to be a killer Christmas present for myself. This will be something that should handily beat my current amp. It will also be built like a brick shit house. I?m really excited. Now all I have to do is avoid the temptation to call the builder too often. A watched pot never boils.

Haj, Congratulations! I am truly envious. We?ll have to get together once she?s broken in. It?ll be cool comparing balanced Siltech SA5000?s to balanced RS-1?s. Ethan
