I won a set at the National meet. They're suppose to send them to me. I have no doubt that if I wear them on the street people won't be kicking my ass.
  3. My temporary digital source is: Redbook - Pioneer DV-563a digital out via Siltech Golden Ridge SPDIF to my EAD DSP-7000 MKII SACD and DVD-A ? Just the 563a. It depends on the disc whether I listen to the SACD layer or the CD layer. The EAD is still a decent sounding DAC. It basically does little to offend. I have no idea what I?ll do if my Exemplar 3910 can?t be fixed. I have a lot of SACD?s and I have over 30 DVD-A?s, so really want a combi-player, I suppose that I could loose DVD-A playback, since it is essentially a dead format. To top it off I don?t have the money for a new budget player, much less a high-end/high-performance player.
  4. I shipped the player UPS ground last Wednesday, so the repair facility will not receive it until this Wednesday. I got tired of paying for express shipping. I?m up to well over two hundred dollars in shipping alone. At this point I?m not terribly optimistic. :'(
  5. So you have no problem receiving stolen goods? You got a good deal. Monster stuff is normally available at huge discounts. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9700386101&category=67780 $40 I?d say it?s likely that he appropriated it. Whatever?.
  6. Sure, then I?d have to pay them to repair it. An out of warranty repair is warranted by the place that performed the repair. For a stock Denon I would have sent the unit to Denon in NJ, but since it is modified I sent it to the shop that has the most experience with modded players. I was concerned with Denon getting their hands on the player and blaming the problems on the mod, and sending it back unfixed. This is their last chance. If they can?t fix it Exemplar and I are going to seek some form of resolution with Denon USA. I?m not happy having a $5000+ paper weight.
  7. I had my player back for exactly ten days when it shit the bed again!!!!!! I can?t believe this crap. This is the third time in for essentially the same problem. Original issue (Early March) Distorted output with hiss (sounds like tube rush) and what sounds like servo squealing and whirring. I swapped tubes to no avail. The noises (Hiss and servo noise) all stop when the pause button is pushed. Since the Exemplar 3910 does not have a mute circuit after the output board this rules out the Exemplar circuitry. I sent the unit to the Denon service center where they have the most experience working on modified Denon?s. They determined that the drive had gone bad, probably due to the extra heat from the tube output. They took six weeks to replace the drive. They claimed that Denon?s parts department was moving so parts took longer than usual. Mid-April I got the unit back. I immediately installed a cooling fan to avoid future heat related problems. Then I hooked the player up and it sounded great and worked great, well at least for three days it did anyway. At which point the player stopped reading (seeing) any discs. The repair place said, ?We?ve never had a bad replacement part, send it in we?ll fix it right up.? So I sent it in. Sure enough the new drive was bad. They replaced it (Another three weeks). Since the unit was already in the Pacific Northwest I had them send the unit to John Tucker at Exemplar Audio for the latest tweaks. He took much longer than expected, but the player sounded and worked fine. He sent the unit back to me. Now after ten days the player is back to the original symptoms. Original repair $250, shipping for four cross-country transits $180, The sound of my head exploding when I realized that the fucking thing wasn?t working again, priceless. Right now I sorta feel like I'm Denon's bitch. I feel that suicide may be the only viable option.

  12. I don?t know about ABT, but Tweeter does sell the KAV line. If you walk into just about any tweeter and talk to a salesperson about the Krell equipment they?ll show you the KAV, but if you inquire about the better Krell equipment they will lower their voice and tell you that they can get any of it. They say they don?t show it but that they can get it. I don?t know if this is universally true, but it definitely happens in New England. With this happening Krell is IMHO on the downward slope. They have further (Performance wise) to fall than my previous examples. It is very difficult to segregate the various lines to different tier dealers. Bringing on dealers such as Tweeter in any capacity is likely to seriously erode Krells performance/quality reputation in the marketplace. However I don?t really see any company sitting in the wings ready to swoop in and steal their segment of the market. Levinson has become a non-factor. Kevin the Class A line is being discontinued. Replaced by the Evolution line. The top amp in the class A line is the FPB 750Mcx http://www.krellonline.com/krell_component.php?id=38&page=fpbMonaural I?m a long time fan of Krell. I have sold millions of dollars worth of Krell, and I?ve personally owned: KSA-100 KSA-300S FPB-300 FPB-600 KRC-3 (Twice) KPS-30i KPS-20il KCT Reference KPE KAV-250a I know many of the employees and count some of them amongst my friends. I?m hoping that Krell is the exception that proves my rule about Tweeter and High End Audio.
  13. The new owners of Martin-Logan must be major whores. They also don?t know much about the high-end audio business. Many times over the years high-end companies have in an effort to grow and increase sales/profits expanded their dealer network by adding larger mid-fi chains to their dealer networks. However every time this has backfired and dramatically reduced sales. In 1988 Adcom was king of the entry level High-End electronics industry. They had quality small independent dealers in every major area. Then the Pro Buying Group (Tweeter) became a dealer. Then almost over night nearly every Audio Shop that had the knowledge, experience, and ability to properly demo and sell high performance separates dropped the Adcom line. Without the small dealers to promote the line Adcom withered on the vine. Eventually Tweeter dropped the line because it wasn?t selling. Tweeter moved on to B&K. For many dealers B&K had replaced Adcom, therefore B&K?s popularity had increased. B&K was doing very well, but the evil Tweeter seduced them. The opening order is huge and they assumed that this would continue. The same cycle happened again. Tweeter (Pro Buying group) gets a good product line. Independent Audio dealers drop the line. Sales drop due to the missing knowledgeable sales and demos at the small dealers. Tweeter drops the line due to lack of demand. What dealer is going to show and promote speakers that can be purchased cheaper at Costco? Martin-Logan started the death march when they signed Tweeter as a dealer. Now they have changed it to a death run. Bye-bye Martin-Logan.
  14. Sorry about that.

    Avatar Question

Right. It?s a statement about life. It?s all we?re all going to end up with, a Lump of Coal. I?m glad that someone was able to figure out what it was.
  16. Does anybody actually "get" my avatar? Any guesses?
  17. There was a mix up and yada yada yada, my player didn?t ship on the 15th as it should have :'(. It shipped yesterday. At least they shipped it 2nd day. So???. I?ll have my player TOMMOROW!!!!!!!!!!  I have been quality digital source-less since the middle of March. :'( I?m really excited to hear my Exemplar 3910 being fed balanced power.
  18. Sorry, I was fucking with you guys. I just wanted to make you write about it. Unfortunately I?ve known about NAMBLA since the middle 80?s. I was going to joke around saying that I was a charter member, but that shit is too freaky for me. I learned about it on the Howard Stern show in 86. Why would you post such unsubstantiated claims? They haven?t banned you? They?re falling down on the job.
  19. What?s NAMBLA? No matter what it is, having your number posted on Head-Fi has got to be worse.
  20. I believe that he researched and found Judes private phone number. Then posted it!?! If I were a Head-Fi mod I?d ban him. That's the very definition of malicious.
  21. You should. What on earth possessed you?
  22. I agree that they do sound nice. They offer a slightly darker presentation than the low to mid range stax models. I wouldn't ditch the amp though; I'd save it for portable use. Takes D batteries.
  23. If he's not offering both wouldn't the thing to do be; buy one with the current module, then if the new module is better you can always upgrade, but if the new module isn't better or heaven forbid it's worse you have the current module that is a known commodity. Change is not always for the better.
  24. I'm not. I'm a scum of the earth MOT
