Let?s see if my severe double entendre survives the thought police. Link of my post and some pictures of the Desltop Portable. http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showpost.php?p=2328573&postcount=1

Internet business? Doing what? Selling what? From the sound of it what she wants is for you to work for her Internet business.

48 hours in and the highs are recessing somewhat (Becoming less bright). I?m digging the sound of the amp driven from my computer via USB with my K501?s. FYI My computer does have Siltech tuning weights on top of the case, and I am wearing my Siltech Boxer Shorts, I have little doubt that the sound would be better if the Siltech boxers weren?t two sizes too small.

I?ve been using the Suicide line for over twenty years. It?s a joke. What?s funny? The fact that I call suicide ?Viable? is insanely ludicrous. I find it funny, always have. Very few people find it funny, but I continue to say it. It tickles me. I am seldom annoyed. I?m usually the annoyer. It's my Super Power

Everyone who has heard my SA5000?s agrees that they are a different animal, this is why whenever I write about them I mention the re-cable. I was under the impression that Head-Case was a Headphone oriented forum, and that therefore writing about equipment and the cabling of headphone systems is encouraged. If I had posted similarly in other threads I would certainly understand your annoyance, however this thread was started to share the joy about my new Headphone amplifier. Is it really that surprising that I wrote about other items in my system in a thread that I started about my equipment? How am I supposed to react to your irrational annoyance? So dear readers help me decide. I could? 1 ? Ignore it. 2 ? Never ever mention my equipment again. 3 ? Wherever and whenever I post from now on I can squeeze in a mention of the annoying product. Please forgive my dwelling on this. I was up till about 4am (not willingly), and I got about three hours sleep. My head is pounding, and I can barely see straight. Today is going to suck big time. Obviously suicide is my only viable option

Sorry, but I feel that cables make a significant impact on a system. Since I was writing about the sound of my system I set the context, especially when the headphones have been rewired. Why the fuck does it bother you when I mention what cables I use? It certainly can?t be because you think that I?m trying to sell my cables by bragging about them on Head-Case. I?ve often thought that if only I marketed to the 218 malcontented members of Head-Case it would finally push Siltech past Monster Cable. FYI. I have 302 posts on Head-Case, and out of all of those I have mentioned Siltech 12 times. Your correct, it's all I write about. Do me a favor and turn on the language filter, then make Siltech the only filtered word. You fucking BuzzKill.

The first thing I did was hook the DAC to the Pioneer DV-563a as a transport. Driving my Sony SA5000?s (Siltech wired). This is with essentially zero hours. Out of the box with my Sony?s the sound is a little bright. The bass is very heavy, almost overpowering. I expect both characteristics to improve with break-in. There is however a chance that my Sony?s are not the headphones for this amp. I then moved the amp into my bedroom. It?s being driven via USB from my computer. I hooked up my Ety ER-4S. Right now I am listening to Shostakovich String Quartets Nos 7-9 The Brodsky Quartet. This sounds very nice, considering that it?s mp3 burned at 256K. I just now plugged in my Acoustic Energy Aego (The original model) powered computer speakers using a 1/8? to RCA cable. It sounds better this way than using my sound card. I?ll be playing the amp and DAC non-stop for the next couple of weeks. My only criticism at this point is that it would be nice to have front panel controls for switching between the digital inputs and the analog input. I think that ultimately I am going to end up using two digital inputs along with the analog input. Methinks I?ll become an expert of the reach-around.

Damn! I want to go home early to play with my new toy. I just received my Headroom Desktop Portable with the home module and the DAC. It?s going to serve as my Bedroom amp. It?ll be driven with USB or SPDIF from my computer (All MP3?s at 256K) or my Pioneer DV-563a for all silver discs both analog and possibly SPDIF. I?ll have to listen to determine the exact setup that I?ll end up with. I could go USB from the computer and SPDIF (Custom Siltech RCA to 1/8? digital cable) from the Pioneer for Redbook, and analog (Via Siltech Forbes Lake G6) for SACD and DVD-A. It?ll also see portable use with my Ety ER4S and my Archos AV420 with MP3 (all at 256K) I LOVE getting new toys!!!!!!

How many thousands of kids die or disappear every year with little attention. Yet this white child beauty contestant from an affluent home gets unparalleled media coverage. The way the media covered it made me sick. The moment I realized that it was a news story about Jon Benet Ramsey I changed the channel, the same thing with the attractive white chick that disappeared in the Caribbean.

You betcha, and that's coming from a man who gets a hard on thinking about a lawn mower

When I spoke to the owner at the National he came off as an arrogant prick. When questioned about his reasoning for certain design characteristics that he has chosen he acted as if I had called his wife/child Fugly.

The way that you were acting (All excited) I thought that you managed to buy a ATV with mower attachment. Now that would be putting one over the wife. Buying an ATV could be logically argued if you own property. The difference is you can unhook the accessories and have some real fun. http://www.swisherinc.com/atv_accessories.html

Just because you haven't measured a difference doesn't mean that there isn't one. It could just mean that you?re not measuring the correct thing. Or it could mean that there really isn't a difference. To me measurements are a means to quantify what I have heard. Sometimes Measurements explain what I have heard, sometimes they don?t. It doesn?t change what I?ve heard. I?ve never liked something because it has measured well, and measurements have never changed my mind about something that I have liked.

Another member said something that reminds me of some of my musings concerning how we perceive various types of stimuli. Each format has its own sonic signature. Those people who grew up listening to vinyl have trained themselves to listen through the surface noise and accept the sonic signature, or limitations of records. Many of these individuals find listening to digital extremely unpleasant, even unacceptable. Whereas many who listen solely to digital and have never listened to vinyl find listening to records extremely unpleasant, even unacceptable. Everyone has their own set of filters with which they process information. Many of us who originally listened solely to vinyl have developed another set of filters that allows us to also enjoy digital reproduction. Unfortunately some have rejected digital. They were unable to develop the new set of filters that would allow them to enjoy digital reproduction. As time and technology have marched on digital reproduction has gotten better. This reduces the degree of filtering that is needed to enjoy digital. So our brains create these filters that allow us to enjoy these very different formats. I believe that this phenomenon also takes place when listening to a new piece of equipment. Whether or not we ultimately find the equipment to our liking or enjoyable depends to a large degree on each person?s ability to filter the perceived signal. This is complicated by the fact that most equipment also undergoes mechanical and electrical changes during its early stages of use. So IMHO Break-In is not only the mechanical and electrical settling or running in of a piece of equipment, it is also the psycho-acoustical configuring of a new filter. Or in other words; Getting use to the gear.

TheSloth, Do you really think that one-day burn in and an hour or two listening time is giving them ?a shot!?? Based upon hearing the Ultrasone headphones at the National meet I?d tend to agree with your assessment, but my assessment is preliminary based upon short term listening. If I ordered a set of phones from a dealer I?d feel obligated to give them a fair shot. To me a fair shot would be playing them for about 5 days non-stop before listening critically, then a couple of days listening to determine the headphones actual measure. At the National I actually felt sorry for the people from Ultrasone. Either they were foolish enough to bring brand new headphones to the meet or none of the headphones IMO were any good. As I said I don?t disagree with you opinion of the Ultrasone?s, I disagree with your referring to your little evaluation as ?a shot!? Why not keep them for a week to see if break-in makes a significant difference?

The design of my custom amp has progressed. The Prototype is being built as I type. It might not take as long as I originally anticipated.

Biggie, Bad news dude, I got my player back, and it is working wonderfully. Sounds better than ever. John at Exemplar installed all the latest updates. So my system is rocking. Work also is progressing on my Custom Exemplar headphone amp.

Need to clean up the Cellophane and Crisco?

Hey Phil, If you?re going to attempt to be the Language Police you should at least get your shit straight. There is enough data indicating that what I said is appropriate. I?m not saying your version is inappropriate, but I?m not the person correcting other peoples use of English idioms on a fucking forum. http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/bang+for+buck Scroll down http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/index.pperl?date=19971219

Expensive does not automatically mean better. The flip side is less expensive does not always mean more bang for the buck, sometimes it just means cheaper.

30GB for the price of the 60GB iPod. The difference being wifi to share, you gotta be kidding

The repair facility called. They said the transport checks out fine. They claimed to hear distortion from the tubed output, but the Denon output is unaffected. Fuck I?m so pissed that I forgot about the Denon output section . The ultimate troubleshooting technique, if the Denon output is good then it has to be the Exemplar output section. My forgetting to test this is almost as bad as when someone sends in a piece for being dead when in reality it was just the mute button. So the player is now on its way to Exemplar audio. I?ve begun to shop for a replacement player. The list of possibilities is limited by my need for a universal player. I could loose the DVD-A, but I must have SACD, CD and DVD playback. We?ll see, but I should know what?s going to happen within a couple of weeks.
