IIRC I payed around $80 for each of my Metallica DCC discs. That was the cheapest I'd seen either for, and a seller had both Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets available in like-new condition. I couldn't pass 'em up. My only DCC discs.

If you can't (find the time to) build them, read about them?

Hmmm, I wonder if the changes at Last.fm are keeping the weekly album cover images from working

OK, quick layout question... Is there any way to have the "Current Avtive Users Viewing This Thread" window moved above the Quick Reply window? On the SMF forum, active users werelisted at the top of the page. Now one has to scroll past the Quick Reply window to see that, and it would be nice to see who's reading the thread before clicking to the next page. And while the Quick Reply window is large, the Current Active Users window is small enough that it's easy to bypass to get to the Quick Reply window. I suppose I could just collapse the Quick Reply window and just expand it when needed, too... Just curious if this was something anyone else was thinking about.

I would've laughed you out of the room if anyone told me I'd be blown away by a fucking vacuum cleaner before but damn it, I'm impressed. The main level of my place is maybe 28x30 or so, and I had to empty the canister 5 times! And I could probably easily do it once or twice more! And I was able to reach everything but my kitchen from one outlet on the far side of my place. My condo was an apartment prior to the conversion, and replacing the carpet just wasn't in my pre-move-in budget. So combine tenants treating the rug like crap over the years with 5 weeks of renovations (including lots of drywall work) and I was left with a pretty nasty carpet. And my 2 year old Dirt Devil could pick up anything. So over the last 6 months, my place was looking worse and worse. I'm not going to say that the carpet looks brand new, because it doesn't. But at least now it now looks clean with permanant stains instead of just filthy. I'm very impressed, and will not be returning it! There is zero cat hair anywhere on the carpet or rugs, and it got everything out from the stairs and in corners. The way I was able to justify the additional cost when compared to other bagless ones, and directly next to the $150 Bissell pet one I was looking at... $150 for the Bissell, plus the option of $50 for the extended warranty. And from what I've read about vacuums in that price range, you want the warranty. Burnt out motors, broken belts, etc. Warranty for 3 years, meaning you know it will crap out after 3 years. Again, 2-3 years is a typical life expectancy for a cheap vacuum. Plus being without it in the likely event of problems. $20-30 per year for filters. Bagless doesn't mean no additional money. $350 for the Dyson, with a lifetime washable HEPA filter. 5 year warranty included, and from what I've read, they're amazing with warranty coverage. Considerably stronger motor and more suction which should do a better job. So, it came down to $350 now, or $150-200 now with the idea that it's only a 2-3 year solution, and then there's the hassle of dealing with repairs or replacement in a few years, all for an inferior product. And Sears having 0% interest for 6 months if you open a Sears Card sealed the deal.

Dyson DC07 On clearance at Sears. More than I ever though I'd pay for a vacuum, but with two cats (who shed a lot) and a dog (who thankfully sheds very little), not a good place to skimp. And thankfully, fully returnable if it doesn't meet expectations.

One from the first half of '08 that I just came across... The Raveonettes - Lust Lust Lust This seems to do the best job of taking their sound and style from the first EP & LP and the more adventurous and varied sounds of Pretty In Black. I can't say for sure that it's their best effort... I'll need more time with it before I know... But it's definitely their most listenable "noisey" album right away, and I prefer that style to that of PIB.

There's something wrong in Colorado...

Considering the likely size of said deposit, I think I'll just keep heading over to Nugget Audio HQ for listening sessions with the original Menace! -
Not entirely related, but NPH's new Old Spice commercial cracks me up. "As a former make-believe doctor, there's one product I can recommend..."

I'd guess it's less that they're wired wrong and more that they were assembled wrong. You could've just popped the rubber end caps of the metal rods, slid them out of the L & R blocks, slid them into the correct side of the headband and then just pop the rubber caps back on. Seems like it would've been a whole lot easier.

How is that? I've heard good things, & loved Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Me? Weeds S04E06. Yay! Julie Bowen!

The Denon DA-500 I started a thread back when I bought my first Denon DA-500. Since then, Deepak has picked one up, and I've picked up a second one, and others have been looking for one. So it's generating a little more interest. Now talk has turned towards possible improvements. The basics: PCM-1702 based buffered op-amp output stage? 3 optical inputs 2 coaxial inputs 1 optical output 1 coaxial output 1 analong output This isn't meant to be strictly a modding thread. But I thought it would be good to grab the posts regarding the DA-500 from some other threads and get them all together. From my previous threads: A good modding thread from the diyAudio Forums: diyAudio Forums - A little Denon DAC mod Some additional internal shots I took today... Overall: Digital Section: Analog Section: It seems that as a PCM-1702 based DAC, it's a reasonable platform to start, especially when considering the more-than-reasonable cost of one of these units. So, for those in the know, what are some of the best places to improve? And if anyone needs P/N that can't be made out in the pics, I'm sure I can open mine back up again.

After seeing the name and reading the description, I almost ordered it without listening. I caved and ended up listening to a number of samples and then ordered it. Either way, I would've done OK

Or I could just send you one of mine, you figure some stuff out and let me know what I owe you... Then post the mods at your leisure!

Indra, it could always be worse... Here's a post from somewhere else by a friend of mine who works at a coffee shop. Needless to say, she was left at a bit of a loss.

I too really like Fear of the Dark... Somewhere in Time, however, never did much for me (even if it is my favorite cover...when folded out, the LP, which I had back in the day, is stunning!).

For what it's worth, I have a Vaja case for my 5G iPod. Even after all this time (2+ years, IIRC) it's in good physical condition. I am a little disappointed with the durability of the cosmetic aspect, though. While I used my iPod a lot, I doubt I'd use it as much as people use their iPhones. And after about 6 months it started to always looks dirty. Even after cleaning it, it ends up looking grimey and dirty again very quickly. Mine is two-tone... Orange front and dark grey back, and while a lighter color like orange could be expected to look dirty fairly easy, even the grey doesn't look great anymore. Just something to keep in mind considering the price of entry.

Computers-as-source -- audio tracks from DVD?
en480c4 replied to Dusty Chalk's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
I used to have a program, I think it was (aptly) titled DVD Audio Ripper. I ripped Opeth's Lamentations and The Dresden Dolls' Paradise Live DVDs with it. It worked pretty well, though IIRC the levels were a bit hot.
