Anybody know who these guys are? -
I'll look around to see if I have some adapters. None in the box I got, but it wasn't really a "production" shipment. Still loving the shit out of it, BTW. I can't wait for the SR-009 to come in because the HD 800 slays the Abyss and LCD-3 in the current set ups. MacBook>Ayre QB9 USB DAC> L-2>HD 800 HiFiMAN EF-6>LCD-3 Burson Conductor>Abyss Blue Hawaii>SR-009 coming soon!

I think I'd take the X1 over the M-100 if you can getaway with not having the isolation. The X1 seems extraordinarily even despite the bass emphatic FR. Replace the cable; too many Ohmages in it.

....I'll be in my bunk.

Balanced ins means I'd have to do some re-writing of the test sequence I have now. And since that isn't really finished... ...no. Damit. Though I'm tempted to remeasure the HD 800 using that amp and compare it to measurements using the Balanced Desktop I use for headphone measurements. I'm really curious if something low level might show up. Maybe slightly smoother impulse response or something.

"Low output impedance is better" is a good bet usually, but there's something else going on here I don't quite understand. I'd love to hear folks who have a theory expound.

Yes....yes it is.

Not. Even. Close. This thing rocks. Ease...crystal clear highs...great bass response...lifts my skirt, and if I could, my ankles would be behind my ears.

Oh. My. Goodness! Just got Doug's L-2 Pinstripe in to power the HD 800 for comparisons with the Abyss, LCD-3, and SR-009. Holy fuck does this thing sound lovely. Not ever heard the 800 sound better. Great work, Doug. Thanks for getting this to me for the evaluation.

Bink! Looks like the problem is solved. Thanks Justin. (You'll get another Blue Hawaii mention as well. Love that fucking thing. (Thanks Stretch!))

Is there someone I can borrow a SR-009 from quickly? Need to compare with Abyss and HD800 for review. Tats doesn't have his demo unit available. I need it for ten days. I'll send you a UPS label immediately, and I'll need you to get it into UPS quickly. I'll ship it back on or before the 18th of this month. Must be in USA. Thanks for your help.

You get there, and I betcha a bottle you'd be renting some kinda convertible for the weekend. Yeeee-haaaaww!!

Needs 0.321Vrms into 48 Ohms. 2.5mW for 90dB We've chatted about this before, I just kinda don't buy the general thought that you need 5 Watts or whatever to drive Orthos. The HE6 seems a little zingy to me as well...don't really trust it. Lemme know if you think you've got something for me. Need the box HWL in inches and weight and I'll send you a UPS label.

It's not as bad as I thought it would be. They actually feel more planted on my head than the LCD-3, but the HD 800 is far more comfortable. Still a bit weird, though. You really can tune them a bit with positioning things around. Wish I could tilt the earcups. Beginning to hear the problem in the treble. They're lightning fast, but a bit hazy. Cymbals and snares don't sound quite as natural as on the HD 800. I'm gonna shut up now. Impressions tend to wobble around a bit as listening progresses and I start to really hear what's going on. And really need to get the top-end gear in to solidify the relationship with the competition.

It ain't over yet.

Damn, I wish I could embed this. Steve, at no time should you do this---one boy-toy at a time on the scooter please---but I thought you should be aware that it can be done. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=268_1372357709

Okay, I've had a bit of time with these now, and I've got to say I think they're pretty damned good so far. So good, that I've sent Tats an email asking for some 009s (still have Stretch's Blue Hawaii---forever grateful mate, please let me know when you're ready for it), and Doug in hopes I can borrow and L-2 to pair with my 800s. I feel the need to do these things because, well, the Abyss seems fucking good from here 3 days into listening. Very fast sounding. I liked the balance, the LCD-3 sounded thick and somewhat hard in comparison, and the HD 800 thin without body. I reckon I need Dougs magic to ratchet the 800s up a bit. Suffice it to say, these cans do seem to be playing in this league. Measurements were less than stellar though, seems like they're a bit rough in time. Joe says I should try to measure them using the EF6. I'll give that a go as they do seem to sound a bit clearer on the EF6 Vs. HR Max. We'll see how things pan out over time, but for now I guess I've got to say these are prolly worth a listen for those who have fat wallets.
