Drop $1200 and you can have an official stax mafia product! https://mjolnir-audio.com/products/

$400-500 US is pretty typical of late for a SRM1 MKII. Getting back to the hum issue, have you tried borrowing a different source? Those old multidisc cd players are getting up there in age.

The network of stax dealers in the U.S. collapsed. The distributor (Yama's) was always a PITA. There's a couple of online dealer's, but most of the brick and mortar dealers bailed. They really need to make an effort to get this going again. The Dallas dealer always was well stocked and had demo headphones out all the time. They currently have one of the best headphone demo areas I've seen in the US. They have Senns, Grados, PSBs, and others out with a decent amp and source. It sold quite a few Stax systems there and I'm sure they could again .You'd think the new management would be all about making this happen.

I think a mental health check is in order. Licking the doorbell is a bit over the top by anyone's standards. Next up, fondling garbage?

The guy looks like he's about to knock-off a liquor store.

"Monolith Liquid Platinum Headphone Amplifier by Alex Cavalli"
ktm replied to Kattefjaes's topic in Headphone Amplification
If you can find a millett minimax for sale, that would be a good bang for the buck. -
Am I to assume that Yama's is out of the Stax business? Not that they did much when they were.

The source seems to be in Japan, so there's some mom and pop corner retailer that had them sitting on the shelf. Modern distribution is not the norm in Japan. They seem to be stuck in the 1950's.

two pairs for sale, no measurements. They did carry on at length that they were original and not knock offs. Just peeled up one side of the pad. They look to be correct. The lips fold under and adhere to the headphone, forming a pocket for the foam? Mine is long gone, but that looks to be its purpose. This is the 1st sets of sr80 new pads I've ever seen. I guess I should drop the $40. This ain't happening again anytime soon.

I saw a pair of sr-80 square earpads for sale. Supposed to be new. I'll have to look when I get home, but doesn't the sr-80 pads sticky tape on? These appear to mount differently? I haven't pulled mine out for a while.

I've got two black cats. And one of them is truly evil. So Halloween is covered at my house.

Stories of drunken sailors and Marines? I'm shocked I tell you! USMC 1976-1980 Marine Air Wing. I got out with my liver intact.

Play loud jazz and follow the rats back to their source???

Audio note speakers are different. I've listened to them a lot and owned the Snell E models they were based upon years ago. Sometimes I wish I'd just kept them.

Flavor Of The Month. You see a lot of that over at that "other" headphone site. Something is the hot new thing that everybody wants. A month later, nobody cares. Time for a Head-case dictionary?
-
By the time a lot of us got to the point of owning Stax, there was a lot less hair to deal with. Other than maybe ear hair?
-
Because this is head-case.

The Rendezvous never clicked with me. Commisary BBQ in Germantown- good BBQ in the Memphis area. The ribs are much moister and meaty. And a round of Gus's chicken always hits the spot.

If it passes the Spritzer test, it will have passed the hardest one. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

I used to buy new Brother laser printers for less than the toner cartridge. Same thing for a while with PTouch tapes. I was buying a new label maker for $10 with the tape. New tape was $20. They got smart and started sending them both out with "starter: toner or "starter" tapes. They also jacked up prices on the tapes and toner. I pretty much now hate everybody. Add Sony to the list I guess.

Here's another winner from the bay. Seller claims a friend braided it for him without re-terminating the cable. Sure he did
-
I thought the set on ebay with the cables hand braided were bad. But this takes it to another level.

Apparently, everything so far. Tubes work ok for some things. A DAC is a horrid place for a tube. You want the tube sound, do it somewhere that doesn't cause issues. And DAC electronics are pretty sensitive to HV.
