  1. Did you get a cable with it? If so it's an A-Mini B cable. If not you should be able to pick one up from a local computer shop. Or put another way - did you ever connect the Pico to a computer? If so you have one somewhere.
  2. USB Mini-B to be exact. So you'll still need an A to Mini-B cable/adapter if using those extenders/repeaters. Course the Pico comes with one. As for sound quality issues I doubt it as it's just transporting/repeating a digital signal (which should be better than long analog cables). Something could go wrong along the way, but it should be a bit-perfect transmission (they are for computer files after all). There are of course bling-bling USB cables for audiophiles with too much disposable income.
  3. When I was going to setup a Pico in the other room I was going to string a couple of these active extenders. May be worth it even if not extending much further. Keep full strength signal. Also for Duet users.
  4. I assume he/she means coax/opt. Out of curiousity with all the sharing (file/library) options you have with computers why would someone need multiple USB inputs?

  6. Another short bit today. Guess we'll see in a month.
  7. Definitely. I have my suspicions on both states from yesterdays trial, but I need to give it more A/B time (and more phones with amp). Trouble is with work I may not make it home for a week, but will squeeze in when I can.
  8. Pretty late to the game, but JP# was kind enough to lend me his Duet for a week and with the exception of some driver issues at the beginning*, color me very impressed, especially with sound stage and overall musicality. Even with all the comments I wasn't expecting this. Can definitely see why it has the rep it does. It can and works very well. Has me actually contemplating selling the Squeezebox. * even bringing down the whole OS which is rare in OS X.
  9. For those near a BevMo, may be time to stock up. This isn't their super, twice a year, $.05 sale, but still a decent selection. Beverages & More! - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Champagne, Port, Dessert wine
  10. Amp fan noise could be a good solution for computer fan noise.
  11. I just meant the potentially new low points of contemporary pop. There's still plenty of decent pop being made...

  14. I know there was one offered 'slightly above' this price point, but I think most are selling for near new prices aren't they?

  16. Was that a review of the Predator or the iPod?
  17. So there have been a few threads that have touched on it, but let me ask directly - for those have compared... A) Which is the better at DAC only duty? Which is better as a DAC/head amp combo for occasional transportable use with low impedance cans and which for high impedance cans? Any words of advice would be appreciated and if you could qualify/quantify the preference it would be doubly so. Obviously, these two units were designed for different uses, but they are priced similarly and often touted. Finally, personally I already have the Pico which I'm currently using as a DAC, so any comments especially from Duet fans if it's worth switching over would be a plus.

    Spore

For those interested in the galactic edition, a sale just popped up.

    Spore

I haven't really gamed since the mid-80s, and Spore is the first game since then I've been interested in. Like many, I've been following it for what years now? Not sure if I'll get the scaled down iPhone/Touch/mobile, the full-scale OS X or both versions, but likely the first game I'll spend money on in over 20 years.
  20. In case this hasn't popped up already, SoundMeter looks to be a useful app. Not so sure about iLighter.
  21. That's what I figured. And no way to get SACD digital out of a less expensive unit I suppose? Oh well. So I'm contemplating subscribing to the SACD Blue Note Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman Reissues. Of course they're dual format, but is there anything else I should consider if playing back redbook only? Of course there will still be the advantages of the superior sound in remastering, but curious if I'm missing anything buying expecting to only hear the redbook for the foreseeable future? Open-ended question, but...
  22. Thanks for the feedback so far. And yes I was impressed with Filburt's this weekend. Side question though - how high/much do you have to go to get a decent SACD player with DAC capabilities from other sources (840C-like)? I didn't realize the encryption issues with SACD until today. Call me naive. Is there anything in the 1K range even if the DAC is a step down?
  23. Golden Monkey on that other site (hidden in a 740C thread) mentioned the Tributaries - Silver Series video cable (could also be used for coaxial audio) sale over at AudioAdvisor. Of course ridiculous at $340 retail, but three coaxial cables at $30 isn't bad. Thought some here may be interested.
