  1. It's a little problematic to be tolerant of the intolerant, and although they've been forward thinking and on the edge of progressive movements in the past, religion (extremist or moderate) doesn't have a very good track record (actually horrible) on personal, social and civil rights lately. It's not surprising as religion fades from public life its more extreme members are more representative and feel their 'time honored' and 'god directed' beliefs under assault. So lash out. As one incomprehensible sign read near where I work "I honor your rights. You honor mine. Yes on 8." Err your right to ahistorical marriage beliefs? So it's not about gay rights? Lets meet in the middle - no marriage for you. Aardvark baguette, why attempt to equate all beliefs/belief systems when it comes to voting (or anything else)? That's an obvious slippery slope. Why not keep it more on the plane of reasonably substantiated beliefs instead of just faith-based ones? That we can agree or at least have a platform to debate on. I may have a long list of reasons why I think aliens are controlling my thoughts, the earth is supported on a team of turtles, JC is needed to wash away my Adam-given sins, and I vote thus.... but is it unreasonable to expect unsubstantiated beliefs may be marginalized by the larger public at the very least in commentary? Well except the majority of the public (in this country) believes one of those thoughts.
  2. I've never heard a Shure model I thought competed with the Etys, but it depends if the top or bottom of the spectrum is more important to you. If you come from the ER4S-side (which as you mentioned is bass shy in comparison), Shures (and most UEs for that matter) sound a bit muddy. Think of the dyna/stats rule.
  3. So Jeepster you didn't vote for Ms. Dole? Dole Ad Fabricates Audio Of Opponent Yelling "There Is No God" And Voltron why is it easy to imagine the kind of nightmares people have when they start using the phrase "gay agenda"? Now "gay armada" sounds kinda cool though.
  4. All marriage is is an issue for government. It's a contract, which is deemed to have some social advantages (correctly or incorrectly). Religion didn't invent it nor took control in most Western nations until I think 12 century. Certainly modern heterosexual marriage isn't traditional in most senses (assuming majority aren't done for land/wealth acquisition, that they haven't requested community approval to marry, females are allow to speak up or form own opinions or choose partner or divorce - not to mention regularly beaten, isn't singularly about procreation, no dowry was given, may be formed over something as insignificant as love between two people, etc.). Anyway, we crossed out of traditional marriage a long time ago. See [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Marriage-History-How-Love-Conquered/dp/014303667X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1225912719&sr=8-1]Marriage: A History[/ame] for fun reading. And for those curious about the origins of Prop 8, my I present... The Man Behind Proposition 8 - The Daily Beast Sucks that the day we get our first African-American president we lose the rights for gays to marry, due mostly to a reported multi-million dollar infusion of Mormon inter & outer-state cash (which I hope proves to be untrue). Interesting election year. Is it true Arkansas just made co-habitating adults illegible to adopt (knocking aside non-married heteros to get this pesky homos), but singles can?
  5. NYTimes mapping of voter change comparing 2004 to 2008 elections. Pretty well distributed. Interestingly, many hit worst by Katrina (or more accurately now living there) voted more Repub while a large chunk of Texas and Alaska went Dem.

  8. Listen I'm as suspect of some of the glowing Obama commentary I hear out there, but that's an amazingly cynical notion to imply all Obamas support and voter expectations comes only narrowly from emotion and pageantry.
  9. So I guess we've reached a new level of election coverage? CNN's Wolf Blitzer to interview hologram strategists on election night - Engadget

  12. I haven't. And no, I wouldn't call them bass monsters and I'm more a listen than feel music kinda guy (hate most sub-woofers), so would guess I'm extra sensitive. The top is soft so maybe some would say the bottom sticks out a bit more, but in no way are these bass monsters. Must be a big difference between these and the Pros.
  13. Well received the DT770 Con 250ohm '05s today. They're a decent deal at the current price, but would suck anywhere approaching normal street, let alone MSRP. Not burned in, but even granting improvement will be behind several sub $200 closed cans including the A900 and HFI780 (two favorites around here I know!). Certainly congested and soft on top (while somehow also being peaky), but indeed several steps above the V6 and HD280, which I suppose are the competitors at the now $108. Weird phones, 'cause if they had a lower impedance they'd make decent carrying around phones. They're fine sounding for on the go, etc. Course you add an amp and the expectations and uses change.
  14. Very nice. Like the gay-friendly ribbons. Is that button above the headphone jack or a light?

  16. This morning. Have a belt case with a rotational clip. For someone reason today it decided for the first time to auto-rotate. Now I'll buy another case to cover up the scratches. Still usable and only a few small scratches on the actual screen, but sides and screen borders look bad. I kept a BSE skin on the back, but left off the front because of scratch resistance and clarity. That was a mistake, but why oh why couldn't it have fallen on the back (or on the carpet six steps away)? Such much for the resell, but I wonder if someone is telling me to get an iPhone?
  17. For audiobooks, local libraries can be a cornucopia o' fun. Unfortunately, not our towns. Also for those wondering, in a head to head battle between the iPod touch anti-scratch screen and an average parking garage cement floor, the floor wins.
  18. Google Earth for the iPhone was just released. Edit: Guess I got beat.

  20. I just grabbed Tube Clock. Works better horizontally than vertically (when it gets too small), but thought someone here may enjoy.
  21. Wonder if it's unrealistic to expect at least several steps above the V6 performance?
  22. If you want to use Replay Gain through iTunes, no easier way that iVolume. Thought someone here may be interested. https://www.mupromo.com/
  23. Well, I bought the Fart Can. We'll see for shared work duties. 250 ohm Con version, so should be a little less gassy, no? Hope the Pico isn't a limitation.
  24. You're right. Sorry about the mix-up.
