  1. Some related claims by his most recent ex: Carradine's "Deviant Sexual Behavior" - June 5, 2009
  2. Very, very nice. Prettier than my head or phones.
  3. To give him the benefit of the doubt I looked up alternative definitions of "slow" over at urbandictionary and both "heroin" and "drug addict from florida" came up. "Crazy, cool, insane" did also.
  4. Ah cool. Didn't realize. Maybe increases the odds.
  5. Okay, let me switch the question - I see Todds photo of the FET-A has the HD800s propped on top. Anyone get a chance to listen to them on the FET-A at CJ? Todds floor HD800 was balanced, but there were others floating around or perhaps he had a SE adapter? Thinking of a small Duet/FETA rig for transportable duties, but still considering the HeadAmps.
  6. Good point. Likely superior SQ and a better choice for most, but costing 1/3 more and losing the coax/opt input options.
  7. Media geekiness...
  8. I see during several of the FET-A reviews the Gilmore Lite/GS-1 were understandably brought up as natural competitors, but as reviewers didn't have the HeadAmps on hand at the time, I wondered in the last few months if anyone has had a chance to A/B (especially with Senns)?
  9. Still name another USB/Coax/Optical-DAC/AMP/Preamp even at the higher price? Course most, and certainly nearly all here, would give up some of the functionality for a higher performing machine, but I can still see it being a good solution for many (at least until drifting over to Pico/Duet/(maybe) iBasso D2 USB/Firewire-only territory). Again I have the same unit as Gene and have had no problems with USB. True enough the DAC is a bit of a let down (that Super switch makes it easy to test with another DAC and amp), but I'd say the same for the Corda combos. Been listening HD580s somewhat quietly at work and they're well powered and for that operation works well. And I haven't yet tried all the jumper sound settings (bright-default/neutral/soft1/soft2), which I'm not sure Gene or others have/had run through either. Still I doubt the performance will rise remotely to the claims made at other locations. At this point it would be unlikely I'd buy one for full price, but like a lot of gear I could definitely see recommending it for others depending on needs.
  10. Welcome and seems you're already decompressing.
  11. Yeah, S/Super mode disconnects the DAC and amp to be used independently. On first album (Kate Rusby) I thought it sounded great, but that disappeared on next few. Still the Compass offers a lot of functionally for the price and a decent work rig (how I use) depending, of course, on conditions. SQ nowhere close to what's being reported some places though. Amp better than the DAC and as preamp it sounds especially poor. Since I inherited Genes Compass, can vouch the USB does indeed work, though maybe that's because I'm using it with the $550 magic USB cable I won.
  12. Did you try both directions ))<>((? All steps natural sounding? The DA11 was one of the items I most kick myself for not trying.
  13. Definitely, though a little strange they are possibly open to this and so seemingly (publicly and rumor has it privately) against Rockboxing.
  14. I wouldn't limit yourself to $60. I just won a $550 USB cable at CanJam. It's big and silvery, though surely not as good as their $1150 model.

Must party. Speaking of... must pace the alcohol consumption. CJ hasn't even officially started and I already have a next day headache.
  16. I've never heard it either, but at least 12,100 have 12,100 have. Pretty small number.
  17. JP, I had to take mine in because of a problem with the physical "home" button (there since new) this week and I was told and shown my base moister sensor was red also (though not sure why and headphone jack sensor was fine). Anyway, the guy still fixed because "I said I'd replace before I looked at the sensor." Not sure how often this occurs, but you may try a few stores and give your best sob story and maybe get permission for a repair before someone checks. Course I'm worried about the next time I have a problem. On the app front, yesterday tried the pretty cool, free Audiobooks app, which is an interface for the 1800 title public read LibriVox library. Pretty cool. Free access to 1800 audiobooks for iPhone
  18. Not CDs, but why not sign up for a free trial (though I'd recommend membership) over at B&Ws Society of Sound Music Club? 24-bit files and some stuff Ry Cooter and Ali Farka Toure fans would likely enjoy. The Music - Downloadable Music Albums - Bowers & Wilkins
  19. Last night saw the SFJAZZ Battle of the Bands rematch: The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra v. The Glenn Miller Orchestra. Great crowd, one of the two band leaders was in the original line-up, and I'm stating the obvious, but interesting when growing up with popular music so strings bias, to see an earlier time when nearly everything was done with horns.
  20. Thought some of the Jazz, or even simply piano, fans here might be interested in this Kevin Whitehead audio review of Ran Blakes newest: Ran Blake: Ghosts In The Piano : NPR Music . Immediately ordered.

  22. Really depends on use (I actually thought the Lavry DA10 performed better in balanced Senn DAC/amp combo use - where it was hard to find a superior - than general DAC service - where it was easier), but overall I think the two 1100s have been my favorite owned DACs, with the exception of the earlier mentioned, far less practical, Apogee Duet. And even there the preference was slight and due mostly to an overall more dynamic sound, not resolution gain, signature balance, etc. Be aware though I haven't been tempted (except for a moment or two with the Northstar MK1/IIs) to cross the $1K DAC mark, so there's a boat-load of competition I haven't heard. But at the $1K and below level I think the 1100s perform admirably. My only wish would be 24/96 support, but I don't doubt for a second that's primarily psychological. If anything I'm trying to keep my excitement from sounding fanatical at this price point. This sound at $250 is kinda crazy and lately I've become fixated with bang-for-buck.
