Luxman P1u
As Al said, we tried a little 20 minute experiment with the P1/P1u and his Amarra, HD800s & AD2000s and although the P1 output was a touch higher (thus sounded fuller at lower level), as soon as we dipped the Amarras variable output down a small bit, and reset volume levels, I found it was very difficult to tell the difference. Will definitely pipe in with comments in the next day or two. Listening to some of the Beatles mono and stereo remasters at the moment with HD580s and K701s. More problematic CD3000, which I always loved with the P1, soon.

Apple Tablet
This isn't how Apple would likely introduce change*. Right or wrong, they tend to be more focused. Plus as mentioned by others, Apple has other products for most of those requirements and I think the commentary has been pretty clear Jobs was unlikely to consider OS X an acceptable tablet interface (plus those Windows 'successes' of the last seven years). Maybe Android/Chrome OS (which should be part of this larger discussion), may (likely?) go down a hybrid path, but Apple doesn't 'slap' anything on. I really think the Flash discussion needs to be on the side (and again pulls Google, etc. in), and as mentioned by others, multitasking is likely to be introduced in the next OS update (though if controlled threading, etc. is part of that we'll see - stability is rising in importance and limited multitasking has always been part of the OS). Way I see it, as soon as you decide on a Linux desktop environment, compromises are made, and that's long before the more restrictive Windows or OS X most users accept. We all laugh at the not far past of hunting down video drivers for every application or avoiding laptops because their hardware isn't 'open.' This is just the next step... for some/most. * Then Intel move is the only recent I'd consider gradual and that was only an internal shift. Also: northtemple - On iPads, Grandmas and Game-changing

As surprised as I am of the anger towards the iPad (for those who didn't get exactly what they personally wanted and others afraid the mass may not always be in Latin), I think this introduction has spawned the most interesting commentary I can remember, including that link .

Sony CDX-GT640UI review
I've been looking at some car receivers and focusing on iPhone connection and navigation, eyed the Sony CDX-GT640UI. Was still unsure until I saw this review. Better than the rest.

Guess what just popped up? Postscript: J. D. Salinger: Back Issues : The New Yorker EDIT: Damn, subscribers only.- The Catcher in the Rye is no more.... RIP
I grabbed them off microfiche in a college library as a wedding present for a friend. Looks like they may be on the Complete New Yorker DVD box set too: Complete New Yorker (DVD) at The New Yorker Store Well worth your $20, but I have that set and although I'm heading out of town tomorrow, if you give me a week I can hunt and output as PDF (I think). They were scattered across different publications, but many there. Remember one had the great opening "If you wait long enough every city becomes a girl."- The Catcher in the Rye is no more.... RIP
Supposedly, he wrote just as much in his non-publishing stage as prior. Hate to say I've been waiting for this moment, but I do wonder what else may get published now. Perfect Day for Bananafish was a favorite and much younger I used to read the last 80 pages of Franny & Zooey before making any important decision. F&Z even seemed like a response to the fans of Rye. And of course take into account the narration setting of Rye when talking of Holden's moods. Plus there are so many fun shorts in New Yorker, etc. that never made it to book form. Funniest/saddest story I know of Salinger is that Charlie Chaplin stole his girlfriend.- Apple Tablet
Yep. Apple convinced Google to create mp4 compatible versions for their mobile devices, but even if Hulu, etc. uses compatible formats, their compression settings may (likely?) not be compatible. Maybe with iPod touch, iPhone and iPad there's an incentive for all the work in new versions. It's the old question - small file size, high quality or device compatibility. Pick two.- Apple Tablet
I know I'm coming off as an Apple apologist, and post-Macromedia I've had little care for Adobe, but with YouTube and Vimeo public beta testing HTML5, I wonder how far off the future is (at least in respect to video)? EDIT: Fittingly the above rant killed my browser.- Apple Tablet

Depends on use of course, but I'd say that comparison is the most accurate I've seen. Certainly, more so than any of the others I've seen including the often sited iPad v. MacBook one. That said as an Air or iPad likely wouldn't be ones powerhouse computer (though either could possibly be primary one), I'd rather have a iPad over an Air for consuming purposes. And I don't see the tablet as a "third channel" but as a eventual laptop replacement for most, the way the laptop has become a desktop replacement for most. Probably the same for iPhone OS over full-blown OS X. Eventually, the need for a laptop, like the need now for a powerful desktop, will be specialty uses. I suspect this would have been further along by now if MS did any real GUI innovation. Will be Apple and/or Google now. - Apple Tablet
