Seeing Beyond the Beauty of a Vermeer https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/25/magazine/vermeer-beauty-brutality.html?src=longreads “I am still moved by the quiet miracle of that boyhood afternoon. But my relationship with art has changed. I look for trouble now. No longer is a Vermeer painting simply “foreign and alluring.” It is an artifact inescapably involved in the world’s messiness — the world when the painting was made and the world now. Looking at paintings this way doesn’t spoil them. On the contrary, it opens them up, and what used to be mere surface becomes a portal, divulging all kinds of other things I need to know.”

American iPhone in Europe
blessingx replied to Torpedo's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
While not technically Europe, friend who moved to London a year ago said he and his wife have had no issues with US iPhones, including geolocation. I don’t believe he’s switched over to eSIMs though, so not sure the complications there.- 1 reply

The Official Head-Case Photography Thread.

Yeah, another attempt at a joke. Near monochrome scene until either someone pissed off another at the artist studios over by the train station, or the drugs took effect. Thankfully one car over, not mine. In other news TTArtisan not long ago released a really cheap (like $200 new, $170 used) tilt (not shift) 50mm f/1.4 FF lens in a variety of mounts. Not sure how likely I’d use for its intended purpose, but been fun this week to experiment with other ones around the house. -

Not only did I take [a few] photos, I took [a few] photos at headphone gatherings. I also got suckered into the Light.io camera. 🤕 Well, basically pulled into all the Valley origin camera companies. Stay strong Foveon! And, I guess, Apple and Google. -
