  1. While you're at it (ditching the buttons) make a wooden grill as well. As for the headband, heat-steam mold a single piece to match the measurements of Vicki's head for ultimate comfort. Also, make a custom cable for the headphones out of shielded cable encased in multiple wooden segments to allow for flexibility. As a bonus, make the cables detachable so that they can double as a jump rope too when not listening to music.
  2. Come to think of it, what happens to the factory cups afterwards? Do the custom-builders discard them?
  3. They are indeed prettier. They also seem like they taste better too... I swear, some people in this forum have a talent for delicious-looking woodies! NOTE: please do not misinterpret my last statement
  4. Im getting SF4 for the PC upon release.

  6. tin-eared sluts and golden-eared sluts. sluts nonetheless. one is just high maintenance.
  7. Damn, how many tubes does one machine need? Shit!
  8. I thought they were banned from the meet, last I read.
  9. Cooter's stat amp. What is the price range we are talking about there?
  10. You bumped into her? Does she feel nice?
  11. Curious about the Luxman P1 combo. Was the Luxman connected balanced to the Berkeley, or was it via RCA? I know most people agree that the HD800's sound better balanced (though I do not yet have an idea of by how much). Supposing that the difference between balanced and SE is significant enough with the HD800, how does the HD800 sound with balanced cables coming from an all-balanced rig compared to a balanced rig with the P1 as the amp? (Luxman P1, of course, doesn't offer balanced output, but does accept balanced input).
  12. What is the chassis made of? So pretty...
  13. The HF-2 looks slick in those pics! I'm keeping my order!
  14. That is such a funny quote, as it doesn't really answer anything. Just because the interconnect allows you to listen to your system, whereas without them you get no sound, neither proves nor disproves that there are differences between interconnects. To deduct from that quote that interconnects make a difference is a logically-flawed conclusion, as the presence/absence of interconnects can be a simple on/off state and nothing more.
  15. I swear people have this saved on notepad, ready to be copied and pasted: "the harshness disappeared, the sound is smoother with bigger soundstage, more relaxed and maybe a bit more detailed." And it is always the same result. If you try something radical and off-the-wall, you always get the quote above. As a matter of fact, today I was forced to take a break from my music-listening session to take a huge-ass dump. When I returned, the harshness disappeared, the sound was smoother with bigger soundstage, more relaxed and maybe a bit more detailed. I have now bought prunes that I eat a couple of hours before I listen to my music.
  16. while on the plane?
  17. Multiple input switch. I like that. Wish more manufacturers did that.
  18. Well, I think everyone here understands the use of submerging the pc. But I just don't get it for the tubes. Dampen microphonics? I mean, in what kind of atmosphere is this guy doing his listening? I just don't get it. I am pretty sure cooking oil was used at some point in that experiment. I think I read it in tomshardware.com, if I'm not mistaken. Too lazy to go verify.
  19. Reminds me of that project in which pc components were submerged in cooking oil for optimum cooling, all inside an acrylic see-thru case. The fans spun too. EDIT: Dammit, jacked again! Meddling kids...
  20. eBayer is cooperating. Nice guy. Too lazy to follow instructions, but nice guy nonetheless. I will get part of my money back. I could have gotten all of it, but the table has enough salvageable parts for me to keep it to try to build something later. I figured the best way to learn about turntables is to gut one anyway, so might as well... It'll make for an interesting (albeit expensive) lesson while the aligned, leveled, perfected Thorens arrives from vinyl nirvana.
  21. Can someone explain this to me using, you know, science/logic? Thanks. Oil damped tubes I am not trying this, btw.
  22. CanJam! Yeah baby! WOOO!
  23. I had already contacted the ebay seller. Took some days to respond, but he seems complacent enough to make amends, so I'm not worried anymore. The good thing of all this is that the new table I will get from Dave a couple of weeks from now (he is working on its restoration, so that I do not have to meddle with lubricating, positioning, etc) is a black version Thorens 160. So it will match my gear better. Also, in my search for what a black 160 looks like (I didn't know a black version existed!), I found the following, and now I can't get the song out of my head:
  24. Sigh... well, I hope you guys have tons of fun over there! Post as many pics as possible!
  25. Well, a couple of weeks ago, I had ordered a Thorens turntable from an e-bayer. The table (from the pics) looked to be in good order. I "sniped" the table at around $150. I was filled with excitement! I pleaded with the seller to disassemble it for shipping. But, alas, I guess to save money, he did not. When the table arrived, everything seemed alright. But I immediately noticed the idiot refused to listen to me when I pleaded with him to remove the platter from the main unit and pack it separately. Having room to move about, the platter completely sheared off the pulley system from the motor. I was both angry and sad. Worst of all, the table was sold AS-IS. Now I have all those records I bought at a garage sale just sitting there. My vinyl listening has been put off for some time. Luckily, I have found some faith in Dave over at vinyl nirvana. I explained my situation to him. After some going back-and-forth in e-mails, he has found a table that, according to him, suits my needs perfectly. I might ship him the busted thorens so that he can use it for parts (and as some credit to the purchase I will make from him). Lesson learned. I should have listened to you guys.
