  1. Happy 2010 everyone. Hope you sell more than you buy!
  2. My dad's b-day was also on the 31st. Happy b-day, Reks!
  3. Guys, don't start wondering how I buy my gear. I am an honest man... really, I swear!
  4. I didn't participate here this year, but I am doing a copy/paste from another forum where I have been around longer because it deserves recognition (the gift I got, that is): I got an App Store gift card ($25!!! Woohoo! I will buy music), some CD's (can never have enough music), and the BEST part: HELL YES! That is so damn awesome! My secret santa drew my sig and slipped each lil orange dude into the box. This is what the box normally looks like: Also, for those that don't know, the chocolate spheres literally resemble orange slices when taken apart (pic taken from web, I still haven't cracked any of mine open, waiting for Christmas morning):
  5. Sounds the same! Cosmetic differences, that's all.
  6. Hola Azelais. So if you can't explain yourself in English in regards to something in particular , feel free to send me a "pm" and I'll try to help you out).
  7. Asr, I ran a similar setup at Mike's meet: Asus Eeepc -> Trends Audio UD10.1 -> AA Prima DAC. The UD10.1 (usb/spdif converter) was connected on one side of the netbook. On the opposite side of the netbook I connected an external HDD and the optical usb mouse. Everything sounded fine. Mind you, though, that the external HDD's power was running off wall outlet, not from the netbook, so I do not know if a strictly usb-driven external hdd would affect playback quality in any way. Unfortunately I cannot test this for you as both my externals have dedicated power supply.
  8. I like the look that front mounting provides (in this case, at least). The squares add a nice framing element. The only improvement that could be made would be to disguise the screwdriver slot, and this only because it bothers me that they are not all at the same angle, but that's just nitpicking, really.
  9. ahh, didn't know that. Explains a lot of things!
  10. It'd be awesome to do two separate pieces, akin to the two squares above. Head wears one pair, hand holds another. Don't really care much for a full bust like shown in the bottom half. This must be ridiculously difficult though. =(
  11. oh wow, so many places this year! I might be able to make it to Axpona (sounds like a horse convention, btw)
  12. Yesterday an auction ended for a QB-9 at $1500 (or $1600 was it?). I saw it while browsing the "Recently ended auctions" category. Funny thing is, no one bid.
  13. QUESTION: Hi Craig, I know you must be terribly busy, but just wanted to ask how the PX4 testing worked out, as in my last email I opted to go this route (if technically possible) over the 300B. I'm in no rush, so take your time to answer at your earliest convenience. Thanks, Alex ANSWER: Hi Alex The KR PX-4's are amazing. I will be setting up the 300B amps with a bias switch to use either the 300B, or PX-4 tubes. KR, and Sopia both make a PX-4 tube in a UX-4 base like the 300B. You will need to remember to change the heater voltage to 4V for PX4, and 5V for 300B. I have a pair of Sopia PX-4 tubes on order but have not received them yet. So far I believe the KR PX-4 tube to be the best sound in the BA.
  14. @ plug:
  15. Due to personal choices, I've had to cancel my JH13 order for the time being. I'm spending too much money and, though I am not in the poor house, I need to scale back. I will eventually get these, but not right now. Sometime next year, hopefully.
  16. <3 Orange makes everything sexy
  17. I really don't do impressions either. =/ I can say "I like this but not that", however, that is not helpful much. It's the same with art: I don't know what the terminology is that applies to my techniques, I just "do" them. I can't explain it.
  18. Dinny, it can do everything you asked except for one thing: be fast. I have a netbook I use when i just surf the web and listen to music (see my setup in the Dec meet thread). The music doesn't suffer. At least, not that I can tell. Mine is an Asus eeepc that is over a year old, so I am sure it is not the latest tech-wise, but it gets the job done. I forget the exact specs, but I can get those when I get home after work. I attach an external drive to it and access all the music therein. My eeepc has a small solid state drive for the OS, and a slot for SD cards that I use to store documents I work on. It boots up quick due to the solid state drive, but it is a little slow opening programs, closing them, streaming... etc. As I said, for music playback straight out of an external, it does the job. I got mine from Pangaea over at head-fi. Here is the link to that: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f43/fs-like-new-eeepc-901-xp-414424/ It's truly a worthwhile investment for me. I use it much more than I thought I would.
  19. By the way, a bit off topic from audio, but thanks to all for introducing me to some fine licquor. As you all know, I am not a big drinker, so I know very little. This weekend, however, was enlightening. The Sazerac, especially... a party in my mouth:
  20. So, who do you recognize?
  21. You should have seen him driving on Sunday to drop off Scott at the terminal. He popped my car's cherry. I can't explain it any other way.
  22. Steve, you were everything I had expected you to be. Though we didn't talk much, watching you get wasted was entertaining. Also, Brent is still #1 nicest Mexican (and 8th tallest in the world), because I am from Nicaragua. But hey, who cares anyway. As for the fight, Brent and I were gonna scrap it out by Ft Lauderdale beach on Sunday, but he dolled up and looked so adorable that everyone agreed he was the prettiest Mexican Elvis ever, and we were all lil schoolgirls swooning over him. So I didn't have the heart to hit him, and believe this Sunday stunt was part of his plans. I thought about running him over when I dropped him off at the terminal, but there were too many witnesses, and also it wouldn't be a fair substitute to fighting anyway. I swear though, if either at Mexicanjam or at Canjam next year there is a boxing ring we can go to, I'll pay to rent that for a couple of hours and get it done. You have my word on that! Also, Steve, you don't like the way Brent drives?
  23. Though I had attended a previous Mike meet earlier this year, I didn't really participate as I didn't know anyone and was more interested in listening to gear than anything else. However, learning from that past experience, I now know that gear listening takes a back seat to listening to people. I'm still getting used to everyone, so I was not as loose as I can be (though with Brent, Colin, and Scott I got along great from the start, as I expected). Nonetheless, I had a good time talking with everyone and just being introduced to some real drinking for once. I am not a drinker at all. I have drunk before, but never like this, and I have a rousing suspicion that even this was light drinking for most of you. Of special interest was the Sazerac. A damn nice surprise. The vapors reaching out from my borrowed Glencairn glass (thanks Brent) literally made my contact lens burn a bit. That was crazy good. Thanks to everyone for such a great time, especially the crew who flew in. I can finally place faces on the names I see online. Thanks to Mike who goes out of his way as a host for everyone, and I definitely took notes in case I ever need to do the same. Al, Matt, Vicky, Carl, Gene, well, everyone in other words, I had a hell of a good time; no regrets about renting out a room even though I practically had a place to stay 40 mins away from the hotel. It was well worth it (consider it a bargain, actually). Oh, and Dom? If I close my eyes, I can still smell that hallway...
