I sure hope I won't be talking about getting a $2000 L prime a couple years from now I must say though that Sigma and Tokina are doing some serious work recently, with me personally feeling better about Tokina's QC. I just wish they would make some Canon lenses faster than F2.8.. For now, I'm sticking with Canon 35, 50, and 85 mm primes with Tokina 11-16 wide angle. I obviously still need a telephoto zoom, and I pray for Canon 70-200 mm F2.8 L but will likely end up with 70-200 F4 L

I just tried out Sigma 50 F1.4, and it was pretty nice, but I couldn't get over how much bigger and heavier it was over my Canon 50mm F1.4. I've also been reading all these stories about Sigma quality control issues, so I just picked up a Canon 85mm F1.8, which will go rather nicely with my new film camera for portraits

You are talking about "gold" or "royal gold (now called High definision)" or both? I'm quite surprised you say that about Velvia 50, since I must have read dozens of people say the skin turns reddish. Guess I'll have to try some. This still leaves me with no choice for a good general purpose print film, mostly people shots (I don't enjoy overly soft rendering, though), with occasional nature/landscape... Going to order soon, possibly Kodak Portra 160 VC, Fuji Reala 100, Fuji Superia 400 (for indoors).

Thanks for the pointers. It's funny you say that about Kodak Gold since I just read a bunch of people saying it's great (Kodak Gold 200, 400). I've also heard Velvia is too warm/orange for skin tones, and my needs are mostly people shots with occasional nature shots, so I need to order some film that's good with skin tones (prefer slightly warm but vivid colors) but doesn't Suck with landscapes.. Less pricey would be a bonus.

Does anyone still shoot film? I'm not sure exactly why, but I bid and won Canon EOS-3 with power grip and am scrambling to learn quickly about film choices (portrait, general-purpose, vs. nature) and battery choices. Unfortunately, these parts (factory grip, battery for power grip) are not exactly cheap, and apparently there is no such thing as a good *rechargeable* 2CR5 Li battery. Went with Canon in order to use my Canon lenses bought for DSLR. Then there's the whole issue of where to develop, scan, and make hard prints...

Still learning my way around Tokina 11-16mm Lens. No post-processing.

F5 definitely had a more defined, taut, dynamic presentation, but it had almost ZERO bloom ("distortion" I'm sure some will call it), less than what I hear with live music. This effect was similar to what I heard when I increased negative feedback on a VAC amp I used to own. This was driving AKG K1000 directly, various 'stats via transformer, and my 95dB sensitive speakers with ribbon tweeters.
-
No sound quality impressions? When I had a F5 clone, I personally thought it sounded quite uninvolving and sterile. I actually preferred my gainclone for a more organic, involving presentation, not to mention my 2A3 SET and EL84 SEP.

It's ski season here in SoCal Canon t2i Canon 50mm F/1.8 With my new toy Canon S95 wide angle.

Similar shots with Canon 50mm F/1.8 II.

Harsh lighting is true, but the night shots and indoor portraits with Zeiss just seem more reddish rich than what the eye sees and with Canon 50mm F/1.8 and Tokina 11-16mm. At any rate, I am really not liking the combination of this heavy lens and manual focus; it's difficult to hold this heavy thing steady while trying to turn the manual focus. Tripods are very necessary most of the time. Anyway, some more test shots with the Zeiss.

OK, some test shots with the Zeiss 35mm F/2. I think Zeiss does a lot better in daylight than night so far.

I got the response from seller, who still maintains it was new and he "checked it" before sending (??). Anyway, he seems willing to take it back, so I will send it back but will try to take some test shots to post. So far, it seems to me to have some additive colorations IMO, with colors that are a bit extra "rich" with a bit of push towards more reddish/orangish tone..

Just received the Zeiss 35mm F/2 Distagon. The ebay ad had said, "New in box, this lens was just replaced by Zeiss. It is new in every way." I'll let my photo's speak for themselves. The nerve of some people

What do you suggest for a free photo-hosting, photo-sharing website that's better than imageshack? I've been using imageshack, mostly for its unlimited free upload capacity, but it doesn't seem easy to share your photo's. For example, I can't seem to just send a link to friends to view all my photo's without needing logon/password (?). Also, a few photo's have been mysteriously disappearing/corrupting randomly, which I have read is common from other users. I guess I'm mainly looking at Flickr and Photobucket, but I'm looking for free version with unlimited total upload capacity and (preferably) no limit on individual photo size uploaded. Imageshack DID do all that..

Do you think the Canon 28mm F/1.8 is worth $100 more than the 35mm F/2? Anyway, FYI Amazon has the Canon S95 for $349 shipped with $50 off coupon code U78ECOP5. I just ordered one. Should complement my T2i/Zeiss setup nicely..
-
Looks good to me. Do you shoot RAW and do any kind of post-processing? That Nikon 35mm 1.8 must be pretty nice, and at around $188 on Amazon, I sure wish Canon made a good 35mm 1.8 at those kind of prices. Even the ancient, non-USM 35mm F2 runs $300

Frustrated over the choice among Canon 28mm F/1.8, Canon 35mm F/2, and Tokina 35mm F/2.8, I just bid and won this little thing. What the hell, the stock market was up... Zeiss ZE Distagon T* 35mm F/2

I was going to buy the refurb Canon 50 mm f/1.4 at $311.99. However, after tax and standard shipping, it came out to be $356.68, which is actually higher than a brand new one from Amazon for $342 total shipped!
-
It does??! How useable is it at F/2 to 2.8 in dim houses?
-
It really seems like Canon needs to develop some better updated prime lenses in 28, 35mm f/1.8 or better. The 35mm 1.4L is $1329 (Amazon) and 28mm f/1.8 $459, so the former is way more than I want to spend for one prime, and the latter has tons of reviewers bitching about its chromatic aberration and sensitivity to sunlight.

Just got a Canon t2i and have been researching lenses. I actually sold off the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS kit lens as I need to do a lot of house internal shots with available light and thought I needed faster lenses. I may regret this.. I have a Tokina AT-X 116 Pro DX AF 11-16mm F2.8 on order for those internal wide angle shots. I have borrowed a Canon 50 mm F1.8 II (80mm equivalent on my APS-C), and its focal length is too long for my usual shooting distances inside houses, party-shots, etc. So I'm looking for a good fast 28mm to 35mm Prime lens as my "normal" prime, considering Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM and Tokina 35mm f/2.8 AT-X PRO DX Macro, the latter being cheaper at Amazon. Any preferences between the two, or any other lenses? Video-capture is an adventure. Although there *is* a menu for auto-focus during movie, enabling it doesn't seem to really focus automatically (?). Trying to focus by pressing on shutter half-way or turning the lens focus ring results in all that being captured on video. Also, one shocker was how steady one needs to hold the camera while shooting 1080p video. Just a little step or movement, and the video becomes very jerky. Does anyone have experience with camera stabilizer like this one from indiehardware.com? Another being Hague (from UK and more expensive after shipping)
