That Adorama deal including a $600 speedlite for $99 seemed too good to be true... and it was. After some research, that Sony HVL-F60M flash may be the turd of the decade, overheating and shutting down after only about 20 fires, not to mention Sony unwilling to officially admit to the problem, nor able to fix the issue. Most pro's are expecting Sony will simply abandon the F60M and announce F61M or something, just like Nikon did with SB900's overheating problem, replacing with 910. The bundle deal also does not work for body+2 lenses. Only one body and one lens, so only $200 discount max. Still tempting. However, off-camera wireless flash photography is extremely important to me; heck, I just did a shoot today with multiple off-camera flashes for a family, which involved pretty rapid flash firing at high power outdoors.

Considering EOS-M2 with kit lens is going to be around $822 in Japan, the EOS-M/kit lens deal at $299 was likely the bargain of the decade as far as Canon goes. It's ridiculous how little difference exists between M1 and M2, mainly the (non-dual pixel) hybrid CMOS II 18 MP sensor with supposed faster AF. Honestly, after the firmware update, M1's AF speed is as good as I expect or need from a non-pro body. If I need to shoot action, I will pull out a pro body. In fact, I wish my 5D III's live view AF was half as fast as EOS-M, not to mention the touch-to-focus touchscreen, which I hope makes it to Canon's future pro bodies..

Hehe, it may be a laughing stock, but heck I would never have taken all these photos if the little EOS-M wasn't always in my car Another one. IMG_0690 by drjlo1, on Flickr

I would still buy the A7r IF at least one of the following were true: that Zeiss 35 f/2.8 is 35 f/2 at same price; there are good options for TTL triggers and speedlites; Zeiss 55 f/1.8 is a little smaller and $300 less, X-sync is at least 1/250th and FPS at least 5-6. So looks like I am waiting for A7r Mk II..

Rather simplistic article, but I must say Sony has earned my photographic respect with the A7®. I mean, where is CaNikon's full-frame, mirrorless, portable, interchangeable camera, at a reasonable price no less? I have a lot of $$$ tied up in Canon, but I have a feeling Sony might be getting some of that soon.

Not mine but had to share this one which stopped me in my tracks. Sony A7r + Nikon 14-24mm. Kudos to "Gianmaria Veronese." Looks like a Vulcano! by Gianmaria Veronese, on Flickr

Prepared a nice pasta with leftover scallop and shrimp. Sure tasted better than restaurant pasta of recent memory if I may say so myself EOSE0641 by drjlo2, on Flickr

I tried the current A&K players briefly. They sure look nice, but one would be much better served by spending the money on really good portable headphones/IEM's instead. BTW, do people really carry around a portable music player IN ADDITION to their cell phones? These days I'm happy enough with my Samsung Android phone playing music through my trusty old Ultimate Ears

Vito, I hope you find this video tutorial as useful as I have.

Paul Walker, of Fast and Furious fame, dead at 40
Jon L replied to HeadphoneAddict's topic in Off Topic
Very sad news. Makes us wonder what *we* would do if we had a rare Porsche Carrera GT for a short time.. "The 40-year-old Walker was riding in a red Porsche GT about 3:30 p.m. when the sports car flew off the road and slammed into a tree in Santa Clarita, authorities and witnesses said. The car burst into flames." http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/paul-walker-dies-crash-report-article-1.1533786 CarreraGT by drjlo2, on Flickr -

Yeah, I prefer the Distagon look also. Since Sony and Zeiss cooperate to make AF lenses often, I am hoping there will be a Sony AF version of Otus 55 mm in the future. Anyway, insomnia sometimes lets you take photos real early.. EOSE0182cross by drjlo1, on Flickr

"$4.900 with Solen polypropylene caps, $5.100 with Solen Teflon caps" Wow, I did not even realize Studio Six sells for this type of money Who designs ALO amps? I recall a time when they were just a cable/recabling company not too long ago...

So this thing will power low-impedance 'phones, high-impedance 'phones, K1000, regular speakers, difficult-to-drive planars, and electrostats (via transformer); Jack of all trades and master of ALL (or none)? -

What exactly is wrong with it? I thought it sounded nice in a brief listen. Since I'm trying to be glass-is-half-full this year, how about a list of *GOOD* Electrostat Amps?

Phone camera to replace digital camera? Samsung Galaxy Camera disappointing
Jon L replied to Jon L's topic in Miscellaneous
OR... I can just buy the A7r and tell my life it was a $200 point-and-shoot. Heck, she won't know the difference. -
Hey, I still have one of those HE Audio electrostats, which looks somewhat dated sitting next to my SR009. Do you have a link for the company or dealer?

Phone camera to replace digital camera? Samsung Galaxy Camera disappointing
Jon L replied to Jon L's topic in Miscellaneous
That line of thinking seems to be exactly my conclusions as well. Heck, I may take this opportunity to convince my wife that *we* need the Sony A7r since the phone cameras aren't cutting it.
