Dunno if anyone here might want to say something in this thread: http://www.head-fi.org/t/707823/intellectual-property-giveaway-on-the-discovery-of-terminal-illness#post_10316570 But I will certainly miss him.
  2. Not exactly kickstarter, but I just recently found a (hopefully) great site for group buys on things that seem relevant to us: https://www.massdrop.com/
  3. Also, what aperture setting?
  4. Happy Birthday Dan!
  5. Happy Birthday Al!
  6. Happy Birthday Colin!
  7. I have found that saddle height and angle affects the numbness of various body parts. Although for me it was my foot moving up my leg.
  8. Happy Birthday Steve!
  9. Not exactly related to headphones or electronics, but since we all seem to appreciate working with our hands & making things - Does anyone know where to buy a single piece of "shell Cordovan" leather? I want to make a wallet.
  10. Happy Birthday Edwood!
  11. If memory serves - something cool (and somewhat rarely seen) about this amp is that it runs the gain tubes in pentode mode. Crazy mega bandwidth like whoa. Until you get to the shitty output transformers. A good enough idea to learn from at least
  12. I had one of those amps once. A proud member of head-fail and the any octal tube, any octal socket group plugged the totally wrong tube into the hole where the (whatever the non-pin compatable power tube with a top cap is) goes and blowed it up. "but it was an octal tube." I fixed it (totally destroyed cathode resistors for the output tubes) and donated it to a head-fi meet a few years back. If you are asking what to do, instead of reading the markings on the transformer and finding a suitable replacement yourself, would suggest taking a large hammer and smashing it up.
  13. I am tempted to join the Adorama contest. Its funnay, that they specify the pixel pitch for the image, but not the dimensions of the image.
  14. Happy Birthday!
  15. Nikon offers a "hidden" exposure compensation setting - that can be adjusted for each metering method independently, and does not show up as +/- compensation on the D700. Dunno if it is an option for the D800 or 600.
  16. I hate macro. But it is also awesome. So frustrating.
  17. For your bike or your car?
  18. I just shoot my 85F1.8 at F2 or F2.8 when I am in a zero DOF sort of mood.
  19. It does not make a difference if the bias voltage is positive or negatve, just its absolute value - 300volts away from the average stator voltage. If I am not mistaken, the trend is towards positive bias voltages because they tend to repel dust where negative voltages tend to attract dust. I will try to remember to snap some clicks of my Gamma Pros later.
  20. Happy Birthday Jeff!
  21. Happy Birthday!
  22. I *Finally* got my new Dynamo-hub built into a wheel, and I rode most of the way home from Brooklyn today.
  23. Such pretty.

The chess.com app for Android is not too bad. Dunno how it works on the iPhone, but I imagine pretty well. I just found mate in 4 in a game. Very proud. My next trick will be not trading my queen for a night in every 8'th game. Last time it was a night and a rook...
