  1. I was not aware that there was a dedicated batch-feed film scanner on the market now! Awesome. That does simplify things. 5-6-frame-strip feed machines are such a PITA.
  2. Epson V700 or V750 with Vuescan. Does contact sheets REALLY quickly. Scanning film frame by frame with a film-scanner (even at lowish resolution) takes FOREVER. Scan a contact sheet at lowish quality, then go back and hit the keepers. When you start shooting 4x5 you will thank me even more. Also good if you ever need to scan an actual piece of paper. Paper negative from a pinhole camera, for example.
  3. High end headphone systems have components with power supplies designed well enough that a minuscule (or even significant) amount of noise on the power line is inaudible. That being said, I use a cheap monster power power conditioner. It gives like a zilion outlets, and has a neat switched connection so my lazy ass can turn all my amps on and off with one button. This is dum.
  4. Does not (necessarily) solve speed issue. You could do Linux & GIMP the same way, of course. I did not see OS in the above parts list. How much is Mac OS? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Forum Fiend v1.2.5.
  5. They don't fold up nearly as small/cleanly/quickly. BikeFriday is pretty cool. They do not fold as small as the Brompton, but are said to ride better. Folding small is important to me. I'l get a big-wheel road bike for long rides one of these days.
  6. I'm not in shape for the race. Like at all.
  7. Did you try a similar test (measure with red and black probes one way, then switch them) for the 5&1:7 test? Meters sometimes switch diodes/transistors on and mess everything up. Looking at the datasheet for the 627 I have no idea how this would happen in real life, but it is easier to check both ways than think about

    Audeze LCD-2

Not only the worlds best headphones, but also the best headphones for giving head.
  9. No, It is pretty much everywhere. Radio interviews, news sites, blogs, facespace, etc. I wonder what the cause is, and what can be done to stop it.
  10. I gotta ask What is up with this word order I have very frequently* seen over the past few months? "properly work" WHAT THE FUCK! Its EVERYWHERE. So annoying I find it. A bunch of Yodas we will all soon sound like. *Because fuck you.
  11. happy birthday guys! Sent from my Nexus 7 using Forum Fiend v1.2.5.
  12. There is no real benefit to speaker MFR's to follow current trends. The reason is simple. By following current trends/best practices in designing "objectively better" speakers (computer modeling, measurement systems based on computer guestimation, digital crossovers, etc) EVERYONE will arrive at a largely similar end result - which I'm not entirely convinced would add significantly to the cost of the thing. At that point, what differentiates one guy from the next? NOTHING! This quickly turns into a race to the bottom, which favors large companies who can compete on economics of scale, and all of these small to medium sized MFRs are left with no business. The best thing for a small-medium MFR and the industry that supports them to do is accept and embrace that every speaker sounds sooooooooo different that you might even think you were listening to a different recording by simply switching speakers. After this truth is accepted the little MFR can sell an obviously fucked up speaker to some guy who FINALLY got tired of the particular way that his old speakers were fucked up. A few years down the line he will get tired of these speakers and get another set of differently fucked up speakers, but so long as the money keeps flowing... Nobody is enraged by the fact that they never heard the saxophone in their favorite recording on their old speakers. They can hear it on the speakers they have now (but not the trumpet) so these speakers must be better. They are delighted! Its not that speakers suck (even though they do) the same thing happens in headphones. Every brand has "their sound."
  13. There is a bit of a learning curve to it, but once you get the hang of how the various things work basic adjustments should not take more than a couple minutes for an image. I like youtube for instructions. Basic adjustments to think about for EVERY image. Decide what to do based on the image, but these 5 should always be on your mind. Adjust levels - Where the black and white points are, and where the "middle" point is. Adjust saturation - how colorful colors are. Can usually be done to individual colors, or all colors at once. Crop Resize Add "effect" if desired (Vignette, film look, B&W conversion, etc) Sharpen After that you get into stuff that is only applied to certain areas or uses layers. Layers are a bit abstract and many people have a hard time figuring them out, but once you do they offer incredible levels of power and control.
  14. I took a bunch of pictures at the NYC pride parade on Sunday. I posted some shots "straight out of camera" for Shelly. Pride 2014 by Lord Nikon 12, on Flickr Full album: https://www.flickr.com/photos/lord_nikon_12/sets/72157645457141961/
  15. Congrats on the new cart! Technics seems to use the Stevenson alignment points. Totally different from a Baerwald/Lofgren alignment, and IMO much more better. If you want to fine-tune it, you can print Stevenson protractors from Vinylengine. I have heard mixed reviews of the Techincs gauge - although that may be because the Technics gauge does not follow Baerwald and when people put it on their generic protractors (almost always Baerwald) to test it does not line up... http://www.vinylengine.com/protractor-user-guide.shtml
  16. Its a pretty sexy lens. Konica used to make a 57F1.2 with crazytoast bokeh, in manual focus. Sony Nex-5N + Konica Hexanon 57mm f1.2 by Arsuchelsy, on Flickr Not my photo.
  17. I agree that the Fuji cameras have always PWNED for JPG quality, but don't think that the Ricoh GR is necessarily lacking compared to other compact cameras. Especially if the GR is set up for SOOC use, as opposed to being set up for post processing... High(er) contrast setting, high(er) sharpness setting, high(er) saturation, and possibly an "effect". Something neat is that the GR offers "effect bracketing" where you can apply multiple effects to the same JPG automatically. Gobbles up memory, but mneh. That being said, I still post process everything. To do what the camera does does not take very much time (even in Photoshop/GIMP) and you have so many options for extra stuff - dodge/burn, selective saturation adjustments, cloning, etc.
  18. Happy Birthday!
  19. Yepp. It is an amazing camera. My only caution is that it is 28mm only... If thats for you, its AMAZING! if not, no. I wish Ricoh would make it in "blackpaint" on brass plates, like Leica or the Pentax MX-1. Such sexxyness. I personally would not have upgraded from the S90 if it were not for the really slow AF and some ferocious distortion in the RAW files. I really liked the S90, maybe just stick with the S95.
  20. Happy Birthday CJ!
