  1. Step 5 is somewhat optional. You can "just" rinse twice and save a chemical. Some people just rinse once. Alternately, pour some (like 2 tablespoons) of fixer into the developer at the end of the development time and then rinse. Temperature control is important. Everyone takes the time to get the temperature of the developer right... masters get the temperature of EVERYTHING right (which really just means get everything the same temperature as the developer) it helps with controlling grain. I assume you found this: http://www.digitaltruth.com/devchart.php It is a very valuable resource until you can get your own times set up. What went wrong getting the film onto the spools? Plastic spools or metal spools? Since you have a few rolls of fuxored film (it happens) you can practice loading the spools in the light. With plastic spools the key is: the spool MUST be absolutely dry. It helps to have the "front" edge of the film cut perfectly square, with ever so gently beveled corners. With metal spools the key is to get the film perfectly centered in the little clip before you start winding. Dont be afraid to spend a good 30sec or more on this if you need to. You can feel when its right. Plastic spools are easier to load (unless they are wet, in which case you are fucked) but metal spools are more reliable once you get the hang of them. What went wrong with the development in general? Describe what your film looks like, or post a picture.
  2. Happy Birthday Todd!
  3. I was expecting it to be a patent for "a rectangle with rounded corners"
  4. Happy Birthday Antonio!

  6. I fail so hard at reading today.
  7. Pioneer created Technics as a "high end" brand to overcome limitations of their name much like Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infinity, or Honda/Acura. They certainly could have made it cheaper than a knock-off, but they should also have all of the parts and knowledge to make it better than a 1200. Or exactly the same as its always been.
  8. Apple charges $20 for the OS by its self. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Edit: Missed Dusty's post.
  9. I dont know if there is time, or how you would attach them, but you can get metal speaker grills. PS: congrat to Tyler for his 3000'th post.
  10. Yo dawg! We heard you liked putting IEMs in your ears so we made you an ear-shaped IEM so you can put your IEMs in your ear shaped IEM while you put your ear shaped IEMs in your ears.
  11. I was not aware that there was a dedicated batch-feed film scanner on the market now! Awesome. That does simplify things. 5-6-frame-strip feed machines are such a PITA.
  12. Epson V700 or V750 with Vuescan. Does contact sheets REALLY quickly. Scanning film frame by frame with a film-scanner (even at lowish resolution) takes FOREVER. Scan a contact sheet at lowish quality, then go back and hit the keepers. When you start shooting 4x5 you will thank me even more. Also good if you ever need to scan an actual piece of paper. Paper negative from a pinhole camera, for example.
  13. High end headphone systems have components with power supplies designed well enough that a minuscule (or even significant) amount of noise on the power line is inaudible. That being said, I use a cheap monster power power conditioner. It gives like a zilion outlets, and has a neat switched connection so my lazy ass can turn all my amps on and off with one button. This is dum.
  14. Does not (necessarily) solve speed issue. You could do Linux & GIMP the same way, of course. I did not see OS in the above parts list. How much is Mac OS? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Forum Fiend v1.2.5.
  15. They don't fold up nearly as small/cleanly/quickly. BikeFriday is pretty cool. They do not fold as small as the Brompton, but are said to ride better. Folding small is important to me. I'l get a big-wheel road bike for long rides one of these days.
  16. I'm not in shape for the race. Like at all.
  17. Did you try a similar test (measure with red and black probes one way, then switch them) for the 5&1:7 test? Meters sometimes switch diodes/transistors on and mess everything up. Looking at the datasheet for the 627 I have no idea how this would happen in real life, but it is easier to check both ways than think about

Not only the worlds best headphones, but also the best headphones for giving head.
  19. No, It is pretty much everywhere. Radio interviews, news sites, blogs, facespace, etc. I wonder what the cause is, and what can be done to stop it.
  20. I gotta ask What is up with this word order I have very frequently* seen over the past few months? "properly work" WHAT THE FUCK! Its EVERYWHERE. So annoying I find it. A bunch of Yodas we will all soon sound like. *Because fuck you.
  21. happy birthday guys! Sent from my Nexus 7 using Forum Fiend v1.2.5.
  22. There is no real benefit to speaker MFR's to follow current trends. The reason is simple. By following current trends/best practices in designing "objectively better" speakers (computer modeling, measurement systems based on computer guestimation, digital crossovers, etc) EVERYONE will arrive at a largely similar end result - which I'm not entirely convinced would add significantly to the cost of the thing. At that point, what differentiates one guy from the next? NOTHING! This quickly turns into a race to the bottom, which favors large companies who can compete on economics of scale, and all of these small to medium sized MFRs are left with no business. The best thing for a small-medium MFR and the industry that supports them to do is accept and embrace that every speaker sounds sooooooooo different that you might even think you were listening to a different recording by simply switching speakers. After this truth is accepted the little MFR can sell an obviously fucked up speaker to some guy who FINALLY got tired of the particular way that his old speakers were fucked up. A few years down the line he will get tired of these speakers and get another set of differently fucked up speakers, but so long as the money keeps flowing... Nobody is enraged by the fact that they never heard the saxophone in their favorite recording on their old speakers. They can hear it on the speakers they have now (but not the trumpet) so these speakers must be better. They are delighted! Its not that speakers suck (even though they do) the same thing happens in headphones. Every brand has "their sound."
