If you want an older rye, I would suggest that you hunt for the High West 21 Year. I haven't tried it, but my good buddy has and he prefers it to the JPS. Still not quite worth the $160 he paid for it though. I prefer my ryes to be younger and hotter. The exception is the VWFRR but to me, it's not hugely distinct from a bourbon. All the intense characteristics from rye have mostly been mellowed out. Delicious but different. Sazerac 18 for example, is just too mellow for me and bottled at too low abv. I'd rather enjoy a good older bourbon and look for younger ryes. I hope Binny's will do another batch of handpicked Willett. I picked up a young bourbon last time but I'd go for a rye this time. I know I'm in the minority but I find the Parker's Heritage Master's Blend of Mashbills to be sublime. I love the heat and spice of the rye married so well with the rich, sweet (wheated?) bourbon.

I've had both. My friend owns the rye and I tasted the bourbon at a local bar. Dan is right in that neither are S-W. Anyway, the bourbon is maybe slightly better than the rye. Neither is worth the money. The 21 year bourbon is better than both. All BTACs and PVW are better. I'd say they're worth $80, no more. Also, I think they're bottled at too low proof. The entire JPS line is overpriced IMO. Edit: The only thing I might be interested in buying from them is the upcoming Ocean 2. Not because it's good but more for the experience. And affordable at $70 unlike the previous release.

Good stuff. I have a birth year 23 year old Highland Park from Signatory that I'm saving.

Looking for a good braised rabbit recipe for tomorrow. Anybody have any ideas?

There are so many choices in the scotch world that I rarely replace a bottle unless it's something that I know I won't be able to get it again. Try something new.

Depends on the expressions. Are you talking about the Port Charlotte 10 year Heavily Peated vs. Bruichladdich Scottish Barley? I would guess that they're probably in the same ballpark. PC heavily peated will be a good smoky dram and the scottish barley should be very mild and floral. If you can find Port Charlotte PC5,6,7,8,9, or 10, I'd highly recommend those. If you haven't tried the Laddie Ten, I'd recommend that over all of the above. It should be more mature and therefore flavorful and complex than the Scottish Barley and a good starting ground for exploring Bruichladdich.

No problem. Glad you like it. You can use the reddit malt map to navigate around and find what you like. Who knows, you might eventually explore all the corners.

I'm beginning to come around to the Yoichi 15. I'm loving it more and more. It's really complex.

HP is quite an oddball. It has a little of everything. If you want to lean a little bit smokier, I'd say go for an old Bunnahabhain, perhaps the 18. If you want something a little more cleaner, fruitier, I'd say Oban 18. I've never had the Laddie 16 but I'd imagine it would be along the same veins.

Shelly, Give it a little time, I think you'll like the Glendronach more. Whisky definitely changes a lot after opening the bottle. Torpedo, It's really hard to get representative scotches for each region and I don't think there is such a thing. For Campbelltown, I'd say Springbank. For lowlands, Auchentoshan. For Speyside, it's nearly impossible. Maybe Mikey might have some advice.

Binny's has Hakushu. I haven't had it but the 12 year is supposedly decent.

The 105 is a high proof sherry whisky from Glenfarclas. There's a no age version and a 20 year I think. Come to think of it, I don't know the origin of the 105. Care to weigh in Mikey?

Bryan, If you're still looking for sherry-aged/finished after that, I'd recommend that you look into the Glendronach 15. I think it slightly edges the A'bunadh for my favorite non IB sherry release. Although not sherry, the Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask and the 17 Doublewood are both good. I would recommend that you try before you buy on the last two, however. If you're ever in Champaign, feel free to stop by and try some of my collection. Frank

Fantasy football is completely stupid.

Nice job, Bryan. I concede.

Yep. Completely and utterly fucked by weather.

Lead spacing is 10mm so it should fit. Thanks

I'm adding a bass boost circuit to my balanced M3: I've decided to go with 7kohm Rbb and 0.2uF Cbb. Is 4 ea. of the following what I want? http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=RN60D6981FB14virtualkey61300000virtualkey71-RN60D-F-6.98K http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=BFC241642004virtualkey59420000virtualkey594-222241642004

My team is one of "great on paper" teams. You'd think a team with Jamaal Charles, Calvin Johnson, Dez Bryant, Eric Decker, Vernon Davis would be better than 5th in the league. Can't really wrap my brain around what's going on. I see the same issue with Brent and Haj's teams. I guess in a 8 player league, everyone is just so stacked. A 10 player league would be a lot less luck based since you wouldn't start the same guys every week. I will definitely give props to Bryan for some sick waiver pickups and great start/sit decisions.

I guess I'm not too familiar with PPR, especially with receivers at 10 yards per point but it seems that RBs are not worth much in this scoring system. Perhaps it was an off week. I think only Reggie Bush and AP were great. I think most of the top 25 players were WRs or QBs. If your WRs and QBs don't score 75 combined, you pretty much lose. Also, I don't think you should ever flex a RB in this league. Like ever.

Bought some jowl bacon from University of Illinois meat science lab. In the oven on low heat for half an hour. The best bacon I've ever had by far. Of course, it's like 80% fat. Nearby HC'ers should definitely get some when it's on sale. Not my pic but looks just like it:

I like Tuesday or Wednesday evening as well.

I'll field a team if there's still any open slots. Also, is this auction or draft? PPR or standard?

I rarely use the LCD. Since they're the identical image, though, the AF speed should be identical shouldn't it? The X-M1 is great. The only thing you might miss is the dedicated shutter speed dial. Since I got the X-E1, I hardly ever shoot in anything but manual. It makes for a more natural experience. With the mode dial, I really have to think about which mode I want to be in. With two separate dials for aperture and shutter speed, I just naturally adjust to which one I prioritize (DOF or shutter speed), I don't really have to consciously think about it. If you shoot macro, landscape, and session portraits, the Fuji works wonders. Action and candids, not so much, unless you are quick with MF.
