  1. I got a chance to try to absorbine_sr's FET-A(forgot source) vs. morphsci's GS-X (with 840C) a few months ago oddly enough with single ended K340s. I preferred the FET-A sound sig but GS-X was technically much better. GS-X had better imaging and more extended highs. FET-A was tubey with rolled off highs. If I were to choose between the two, I'd pick the FET-A but that's a personal preference. I would imagine that the GS-1 would have similar performance as the SE output of the GS-X. I would also guess that the difference would have been more subtle with easier to drive phones. You might want to ask Jim. He might have been able to A/B them.
  2. Yep, that's exactly what I'm doing. Thanks for the clarification. Looks like there's not too many recommendations. Realistically, could I get away with large floorstanders if I'm listening from 6ft away? Something like Monitor Audio RS6.
  3. Also, I'm running them(the quads) in a balanced system so it's a pain to figure out how to work a sub in.
  4. I'm 6-7 feet away. It's the bedroom of a 1 br apartment.
  5. Just disregard that. I think I covered it when I mentioned that I wanna go passive. I would love do that. If only the stands for the harbeths alone didn't max out my price range.
  6. I think I'm growing out of my Quad 12L Actives. Lately, as my tastes moves further into jazz, I find that they are fatiguing in the highs and are lacking in bass and bass extension. I'm looking for speakers <$800 that will be easily upgradable in the future. I'm thinking either floorstanders or monitors+sub combo and I'm willing to go used. Unfortunately, I'm a grad student so I won't be in a room with larger than 12'x12' anytime soon so factor that in. I'm leaning toward passives since I will have more choices in the future to upgrade. The price does not include an amp. What do you guys think?

Remember that they didn't necessarily need to "grow" like normal humans.

Haha that is a sad reference to get. But thank you.

    Scrubs

Haha, yeah I understand. I just spend most of my time here reading the headphone related forums instead of posting there. At least here, I don't have to think to myself "I wish that 3/4 of these idiots that have no idea what they're talking about would just shut up."

I figure it might be better that I not turn this into that other forum and post stuff like. "Man that HD800 looks delicious." with nothing else to contribute. But maybe you're right. I don't really fit into the demographic having sold most of my headphones recently. Just bored and decided to post some stuff about TV. I'll just stop posting.
  11. Audio quality aside, I think it's a good move for grado to redesign their low end. I see many a student around campus with SR60's but I know they get shit from other people about how ugly they are. This isn't exactly a fix but it's a good step forward. Hopefully it'll entice more people to finally take the dive.

Hey, now. I still read your banter and reviews on headphones/amps/sources. Just because I'm not looking to buy right now doesn't mean I don't want to. Would you rather I just register, continue to look around and just not post? I mean you have this forum for a reason.
  13. I completely agree. Like I said, Jeph Loeb almost killed the show. They begged Bryan Fuller to come back(7 figure salary). Luckily for them, Pushing Daisies got canceled and he did. I'm pretty sure that we're the weird ones. This forum doesn't exactly get a fair sample of the population. I completely forgot to add Flight of the Conchords to the list. It's quite a good show. I agree about HBO. They've been really slacking off lately. I am, however looking forward to the Song of Fire & Ice series and The Pacific. Speaking of premium channels, I want to check out United States of Tara. It's been getting terrific reviews.
  14. yeah.. like i said, maybe it's not the writing. I don't know, something about that show just doesn't draw me in. I can't be the only one though. No news about renewing for a new season and viewership has dropped to 3.5 million from 18 million during the premier and 6 million early in the season. It also seems to me that there's no 30 rock following at all here. edit: ouch. didn't know it had been moved to the Friday night death slot. At least the rest of the eps are supposed to be good. http://io9.com/5162419/after-a-slow-patch-sarah-connors-coming-back-full-throttle
  15. How do you guys like true blood? It sound intriguing. Is it more of a fun show or is drama? Or is it something in the middle?
  16. Haha, I meant woman. But honestly, none of the characters are developed at all (when I stopped watching). Well, maybe except John. They had no compelling backstory. I stopped watching after that ep when the terminator chased John to the docks and they jumped off. So yeah, it's been a while.

Honestly, I'm an obsessive compulsive archiver. I pretty much have everything I've ever watched in archival quality and I like to keep it that way;D. Although I have an extra dvd set of Alias season 1(from Christmas far too many years ago). So if someone wants that, I can let that go.
  18. My advice is not to bother. It was never terribly well written imo, so if you're watching for the story, just let it go. If you actually just enjoy the action and sfx, then go for it. edit: Well, maybe it's not badly written. The characters are just not compelling to me, but maybe I can't relate to a middle aged man protecting his son from the apocalypse.

Hahahaha. Figured someone would post about that. Right now, I'm on a break from headphones. I just have pk-1's and some hd-600's. But mostly I use my PC/Squeezebox Duet->CI audio VDA2->Quad 12L actives.

I'm surprised that there's not a post on this already but how are you guys liking the new season of Scrubs? I think people who started from the beginning will agree that it's returned to its former glory (S6-7 were crap). Even with the budget cutbacks (notice that there's no sets outside the hospital and JD's apartment), I do thoroughly appreciate the story and humor once again. Do you like Elliot and JD getting back together again? Or do you agree with Bill Lawrence(keeping them apart)?

    Californication

I can appreciate why people like Sorkin's writing but for me, it's just a bit dry.
  22. I've been fairly impressed with this season's offerings thus far. Especially with the huge improvement in writing quality and originality this season. I guess the writers strike was good for letting some ideas flow and simmer. Here are the shows I currently follow, in order of preference. Battlestar Galactica Bones House BBC's Top Gear (hiatus) 30 Rock Californication (hiatus) Eureka (hiatus) No Reservations Scrubs (hiatus) Leverage (hiatus) Chuck Life Top Chef (hiatus) The Big Bang Theory Pushing Daisies (canceled) Weeds (hiatus) Lie to Me The Simpsons Burn Notice Heroes (now that Bryan Fuller is back. Jeph Loeb needs to get the f out of anything having to do with writing, including comics.) My Name Is Earl The Middleman (canceled)

    Californication

imo, best writing on TV right now. And I watch pretty much every show.

    Leverage

Not exactly the best acting and the most original plot/writing but it's quite an enjoyable show. Moreso than many shows with better acting. Kinda like Burn Notice.

    Battlestar Galactica

    I'm pretty sure that
