  1. I agree with your point about Nikon ergonomics. Canon is much better and I wish I could stick with them, but the Nikkor mid-range primes beckon. For you, perhaps it is more expensive to get Nikkor lenses, since you use the 24-70mm the most. The pro level primes are more expensive also. edit: Yes, I've looked at the Sigma. When I use them for portraits, the Sigma always came out sharper for me. I've heard that it is softer around the edges, though, but that's not something I'm overly concerned about.
  2. Your fear of 3rd party lenses would serve you well this time. That particular lens is notorious for being variable in build quality. A lot of the Canon mount ones have issues with front-focusing. And it often can't even be fixed with AF microadjustment if your camera has that. However, if you can try it before you buy it, it's a spectacular value. A good copy is far better than the Canon 50mm 1.4 in basically every way.
  3. Well, you can't really compare when taken with different apertures. The wider one is naturally less sharp. But yeah, like I said, the 50mm 1.4 really isn't worth it. That's mostly why I'm going away from Canon for my next setup.
  4. this is qualia-esque, no?
  5. Yep. Nikon D7000 brings 39-point AF, 1080p video, and magnesium alloy construction to $1,200 price point -- Engadget

  7. The 24-70mm is such an awesome walk-around lens for full frame.
  8. They're both great lenses. IMO, the 1.4 isn't worth it unless you're doing a lot of indoor low light photography. That extra f stop that you gain with the 1.4 isn't very sharp. That being said, I bought one anyway for the build quality. Since Canon doesn't seem to be updating their midrange primes anytime soon, I'm probably going to be switching to Nikon after Photokina, although I'll still keep my XTi for the 70-200mm f/4.
  9. That black and white one looks great but what's with all the noise in the sky?
  10. ^ Go with the advice of someone who's used both.
  11. My friend tried it and the camera works fine but the SD card that he used to do it got corrupted.
  12. That's a notoriously bad lens. It's extremely soft at large apertures.
  13. If you use the wider end more, I'd think that the Tokina 11-16mm or the new Sigma 8-16mm would be better.
  14. Is this guy a fob or something? It looks like a bad chinese-english translation.
  15. Nice, did you use a polarizer for those water shots?
  16. All of those would be better with HDR. j/k Seriously, those are all great. Especially the last 2. Definitely worth getting up at 6AM.
  17. Can't go wrong with either. Nex-3 has better low light performance but it uses proprietary sony E-mount but you can buy adapters for M and m4/3 mounts. The e-pl1 has a nice optional viewfinder. If I were planning to use the kit lenses, I'd go with the nex-3.
  18. Yes.. I wish I had brought a tripod. I think I will next time.
  19. Plus, you can always put a Summilux on it or the dream lens. Here's one I just took today.
  20. You'd get some more details around the horizon. Excellent without, though.
  21. Great shots! Both of them would be amazing with HDR.
  22. ^ All of the above is useless. Cept the fisheye. That's just cool. Yes, Canon, keep replacing telephotos because you don't have enough domination in that market. Sure, release a 70-300mm with terrible optics for $1500, a lens that's failed twice before. And why not destroy the xxD series and completely muck up your DSLR lines in the meantime. Great job, Canon. The only redeeming thing is that they will probably release the 1Ds IV, which should be awesome.
  23. I think he has a really hot neighbor living down the block that likes to leave her windows open.
  24. Actually, this is what you need. The other day, I couldn't find the filter for it to save my life. I finally realized it was in my back pocket.
  25. Here are some shots with the 50mm all wide open because it was dark and my camera blows.
