  1. Meteor shower tonight could be pretty good if you happen to be in a rural area with a cloudless sky.
  2. INTJ here, too.
  3. As Gary Larson's Far Side cartoon psychiatrist wrote in his notebook, "Just plain nuts!"
  4. I played drums in a reenactment of The Last Waltz a couple of years ago, and got very familiar with The Band's music, something I had inexplicably failed to do until then. This is a sad day.
  5. Take care, Jacob. A brain condition is not fun in the least, and it's best to overreact and feel dumb later than to underreact. I hope that's your last scare.
  6. Aw shit. This is sad news indeed. I'm going to crank up The Band.
  7. If VD improves the HD 800, I'm not sure I want either.
  8. I caught the Paganfest tour in St. Paul two nights ago. It focuses on folk metal, generally from northern and eastern Europe. This is the third Paganfest America tour to come through. Turisas headlined, and were incredible. Alestorm before them - not too shabby, but won't be buying any CDs. Arkona before them - best performance of the night; simply magical. This band is totally unique, and the singer has the best stage presence I've ever seen. Huntress opened the whole thing, and were terrible. So, there you go. Check out this tour if you are even remotely interested in (IMO) the best current metal available today. Arkona and Turisas are pushing musical boundaries all over the place, while remaining accessible and putting on spellbinding performances. Here's the rest of the tour itinerary: 4/9 – Atlanta, GA @ The Masquerade 4/11 – Dallas, TX @ Trees 4/12 – Lubbock, TX @ Jake’s 4/13 – Denver, CO @ The Marquis 4/15 – Seattle, WA @ Studio Seven 4/16 – Portland, OR @ Hawthorne Theatre 4/17 – San Francisco, CA @ DNA Lounge 4/18 – West Hollywood, CA @ Key Club 4/19 – Tempe, AZ @ 910 Live
  9. Our Miele has kept up to three Australian shepherds and three cats for seven years now. It was expensive, but it's still running great. If you can get one that does not have the electronic power control, I'd recommend that, as we did have to replace the controller last year for a couple hundred bucks.
  10. Happy birthday!
  11. Happy birthday!
  12. Jim Marshall, creator of the Marshall amp, dies at 88.
  13. This album is musically huge, and deserves good headphones in the dark.
  14. Happy birthday!!
  15. Good stuff Ken. You two seem to be showing the world how to break up gracefully. I'm glad for you that the health insurance issue is settled.
  16. I just sent the first draft of chapter 1 of my master's thesis off to my supervisor. Let's drink.
  17. Happy birthday!
  18. Two things today: 1. Moving the electric fence to give the cattle fresh pasture, and seeing how excited they are to find new stuff to munch on; and 2. While I'm doing the above, my kids are finding anthills. They really love anthills, and because today is the first day the ants have come out this year, it's a really good day to be a two or four year-old boy.
  19. Happy birthday Doug!
  20. That is lovely.
  21. Sad news indeed. I'm going to crank up the bluegrass today in tribute to his influence.
  22. I'd better do my nationalistic duty and try them out sometime.
  23. Just to clarify, you're talking about splitting each XLR input, so that you'd get XL to channels 1-4 and XR to channels 5-8, and then summing them at the TRS out, which is now hopefully balanced mono instead of unbalanced stereo? I don't know if it'll work, but I'm interested to hear the results.
  24. My four year-old loves his snuggles. You're right; it's nirvana. There are tradeoffs, of course, like when he threw his hamburger in a fit of rage yesterday because it had the audacity to break while he was trying to shove it into his mouth. That kinda made me smile too, but I had to conceal my mirth behind my tender-but-stern father voice.
  25. ^^ Thanks. Looks like Linkwitz sells the plans and PCBs if one wanted to build a pair.
