That's amazing, Todd!

My three year-old just threw up on the kitchen floor. Too much intense play with his older brother right after supper. Time for a beer...

This is becoming one of my favourite youtube channels.

Yeah, I can't donate blood (may trigger a seizure) or marrow (unless I go off my anticonvulsant meds). Sucks... I'm going to try to get a letter from my neurologist stating that I should at least be able to donate blood, next time I see him. I've only had one seizure, and that was three years ago. I think my risk is pretty darn low. That's great news, Jacob!

Another one is biting the dust.

The Paganfest America tour has just been announced with dates, for anyone whose metal tastes run in the Northern European folk direction, and holy shit, they're coming to Winnipeg. The lineup, in reverse chronological order: Ensiferum, Tyr, Heidevolk, Trollfest, Hellsott. I've seen Ensiferum thrice before, and they are very good live. Tyr were okay when I saw them in 2008. I'm super excited to see Heidevolk. The dates: 3/30 - Denver, CO @ Summit Music Hall 4/01 - Tempe, AZ @ 910 Live 4/03 - San Francisco, CA @ DNA Lounge 4/04 - Reno, NV @ The Alley 4/05 - Portland, OR @ Hawthorne Theatre 4/06 - Seattle, WA @ Studio Seven 4/07 - Vancouver, BC @ Rickshaw Theatre 4/09 - Edmonton, AB @ Starlite Room 4/10 - Regina, SK @ The Exchange 4/11 - Winnipeg, MB @ Zoo Cabaret 4/12 - Saint Paul, MN @ Station 4 4/13 - Chicago, IL @ Reggie's 4/14 - Columbus, OH @ Al Rosa Villa 4/15 - Baltimore, MD @ Soundstage 4/16 - Philadelphia, PA @ The Note 4/17 - Toronto, ON @ Opera House 4/18 - Montreal, QC @ Metropolis 4/19 - Poughkeepsie, NY @ The Chance Theater 4/20 - Worcester, MA @ The Palladium (NE Metalfest) 4/21 - New York, NY @ Gramercy Theatre

Heidevolk - Batavi This band is a relatively new discovery for me. I have no idea which sub-genre of metal they belong in, but I really REALLY like them. They sing in Dutch, and their vocal melodies and harmony choices are different from anything I've ever heard. Highly recommended. Incidentally, they are playing on the Paganfest America tour this spring. I'll probably drive down to Minneapolis-St. Paul to see them.

I tried one today at Armaegis' place (he's on HF, don't think he's registered here). Not really my cup of tea. At low volume it was nice, but at my normal listening volume, which is not terribly high, the treble had a certain ice-pick-driving-into-my-skull quality that was not terribly pleasant. I tend to be fairly sensitive to sibilance though, so take this with as many grains of salt as you wish. Comfort was good, but the cups could be a bit bigger to go around my apparently large ears. Bass had impressive extension, and pretty good quality. Listening to sweeping test tones, we also noticed a very deep but thin dip in frequency response around 400 Hz.

Happy birthday guys!

^Congrats, Aura. Though I barely frequent the other forum anymore, I've just been made aware that there is still some of the old sense of community remaining there. I asked a local Winnipeg member, whom I've never met beyond two emails back and forth, if I could try out his Stax 4040 rig while I was in town. His response was that he never listens to it anymore, so why don't I borrow it for a month or so. I grudgingly accepted, and it sounds really good. I hope he's got time for a few beers on me when I return it.

"Hey, there's a whitetailed buck in the classroom, missing an antler and bleeding all over the place. Quick, get the camera."

Sorry to hear that, Dusty. There are few things worse than losing a pet. Twenty years is a great long life for a cat, but it's never long enough.

^ Awkward! I'm in Winnipeg for most of this week, staying in a hotel in the cultural wasteland between a shopping mall and the airport. I'm taking a short course on fire safety provisions in the national building code. Dry, dry, dry.

Have you thought about going with cast iron pans? Once seasoned, they are effectively nonstick, and they take a lot of heat and disperse it evenly over the pan surface. They take abuse well, too. Definitely well within your price range, unless you want them to look more expensive, in which case they become more expensive. -
Very awesome, Jacob!!! I'm tired today, after staying up till 2:30 am installing the afore-mentioned baseboard heater. I had one night with no wife or kids, and had to git 'er done, asbestos be damned. Tonight I get to see if I wired it correctly.

I'm really enjoying this one. A man leaves his family to live in the woods after his father dies, kills a cow moose for food, and befriends her calf. Dry hilarity ensues.
