Just got a bump up to 24 hours per week from 21. A bit more dough, but more importantly it allows me (and family) to enroll in an awesome health and dental plan, fully paid by my employer. This fall and winter, my teeth will get fixed, finally.

Hope it was a good one!

Playing the headline slot with my original band at the Harvest Sun Music Festival tonight. Gonna be 2.5 hours of awesome, followed by no more rehearsals for quite awhile (I need a break!).

Absolutely agree.

In our neck of the woods, bats are known to carry rabies, but it's probably different in your area. We once had one dive-bombing us outside in the daytime - I would have given it pretty good odds of having rabies.

Time to invest in a badminton racket, Nate. Also, note that bats may have rabies. Hope it gets resolved soon.

Thanks, I'm going to check that out! Yeah, philosophically I'd prefer to keep it as simple as possible, post-processing-wise, but that would probably also require much more expensive mics than I currently own.

I failed on the recording - too much rushing about beforehand. We're doing it again in October, and it should be a better-sounding room, so I'll cook something up then.

Happy birthday, Tyll!

I'll see if we can get something recorded tonight. Maybe a minidisc with a stereo mic for the room, and another one with a line coming off the board, to be mixed together later. It wouldn't be stupendous audio quality, mainly due to limitations of a smallish room with a high ceiling and some electrical issues.

Congrats, Carl! Have fun, Bryan. I've got one more White Album concert to perform tonight. The last two have been great, and all three were/are sold out (280 tickets or so each night). We've been working on it and obsessively listening to it since the fall - kinda bittersweet to have it finish, but the afterparty should be a good time.

Really sorry to hear that. Losing a dog is really difficult.

Yup. The freezer trick. Might be a head crash.

I've been told I have a good "Ringo voice". I'm not sure if it's a compliment or not...

Birthday greetings, sir! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYN54NZqlcw

Good luck and have fun, CJ! I'm enjoying a day off from work and music, and will celebrate by fixing some fences so the cattle stop escaping. Then, tomorrow I've got a dress rehearsal for the White Album tribute concert that one of my bands has been working on since the fall. We're doing three performances this coming weekend. I'm mostly playing drums and percussion, but singing lead on the Ringo songs as well. I'm really looking forward to it, and looking forward to having some time off afterwards.

Good tips, thanks guys. I'll share some of the sounds around if I can get a project sounding good this summer/fall.

Infenestration? Glad to know Reaper is working well for you, Ironbut. I'm hoping to really learn how to mic my drums well. There's a small community hall near where I live that can be rented for nearly nothing, and it would be a great room to get that big drum sound (like what Steve Albini squeezed out of Dave Grohl's drums on In Utero). My mics may limit me, but I can borrow from friends or rent if need be.

XP because that's the disc I have in the house. The computer was gifted to me on the condition that I completely wipe the hard drive, and the original owner didn't have the OS disc to give me. Realistically, I'm going to be too busy with kids and other stuff to use Reaper to its full potential, but if I can record my drums and a few other things, and add some sequenced tracks once in awhile I'll be happy. I've got an M-Audio Delta 1010, which I've had for 12 years or so, as my ADC.

I expect you'll be taking in some of the Okanagan vinyards? Check this one out, if you can: http://www.nkmipcellars.com/ I've never been there, but I love their merlot. I don't blame you for choosing the BC wines over the Manitoba mosquitoes.

I'm currently installing Windows XP on an old machine, for the purpose of evaluating Reaper audio production software. Sipping cheap Canadian whisky while I wait for the hard drive to format.

If your travels take you two provinces east, we'd be happy to host you and your family, John. We have space. Not much else, but lots of space. And cattle.

Happy birthday, Todd! *raises coffee mug in thanks*

Nice wheels, Steve. Dusty, my wife has been using a neti pot for her allergies, and now she mainly complains about the grossness of using a neti pot, rather than her sinuses. Me: I harvested buckets and buckets of humus from the composting toilet. I'm glad we went with a Clivus brand unit, even though it was twice the price of any of its competitors. It just smelled like soil coming out. I'll leave it outside to cure in the sun for a few months, and till it into the garden in the fall.
