Be prepared for bleak, with a slow reveal of more bleakness. And absurdity and depravity. It's really clever and engrossing, though. I think you'll like it.

Just finished this. Really really excellent dystopian sci-fi. It was my first Atwood novel, and I can now say that I'm absolutely a fan. I'm going to start the second in the trilogy as soon as I read something lighter - maybe I'll try Discount Armageddon, if Dusty gives it his Whedonite seal of approval. Edit: woo! There's a copy at my library.

KnobFeel - reviews based purely on the feel of the knob
acidbasement replied to Grahame's topic in Off Topic
The feel of the knob played a big part in my decision to return a piece of gear to the store last month. I like that site. -

I appreciate audio recordings of concerts, and I'd like to start accumulating gear toward making my own (mostly for my own performances). Video is another story. Those viewfinders can be very distracting to other audience members - maybe I'm just being overly anal, but it bugs me when I have to look around someone else's camera for an entire performance that I've paid to see. I'm a bit conflicted on this though, because as a musician I do recognize the promotional advantages of having concert footage on youtube, even while my performance likely changes somewhat from my awareness (flattery mixed with irritation) that there are people in the audience making video recordings.

Happy birthday!

I've seen Sabaton twice, and they really throw it down live. Definitely worth seeing.

Hope it's a good 'un, Dinny!

Just got word from a local promoter that Iced Earth are playing in Winnipeg May 12, with support from Sabaton and ReVamp. I can't find details about the tour online, but I expect it will be announced soon. Iced Earth are not my favourite, but Sabaton are amazing, and I keep hearing things (in this thread and elsewhere) about ReVamp and Floor Jansen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epeQwq-aYV0 EDIT: Here's the entire tour. Best with the move, Steve!

I'm not sure why (combo of friends/nationalism I'd guess), but they had an entire table full of Russian CDs that weren't their own - pretty cool move, given the extra cost and pain in the ass of taking it all on a world tour. Arkona's best (or maybe just most accessible) albums are "Slovo" and "Goi, Rode, Goi", in my opinion. They'll have a new one coming out in early 2014. Take fifteen minutes and listen to this song. It's got guest appearances from a long list of folk/pagan metal vocalists from other bands. It's actually how I discovered Heidevolk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-DE6-5rKLY

That actually might be doable. It's an easy hop over to Chicago on the Amtrak for me.

So, at the (really awesome) Arkona concert two nights ago, we picked up a couple of random Russian folk metal CDs that they were selling at their merch table. This song is from one of them. Best thing I've ever just happened to stumble upon in a long time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yicTUvDVTHA&feature=youtu.be

The Arkona show last night was absolutely amazing. They played for about an hour and a half. I don't know how that woman maintains her energy through the whole show, given how hard she works up there.

That's what it's been for all of my MRIs. I assume because they can't use anything metal inside the machine, or even near it. They literally pipe in the music from outside the room. Three hour root canal? That's insane, Stretch. I think I have another one coming up in January - hope it doesn't take that long. They are unpleasant. Good news came to me today. I won $500 worth of work from a screw pile foundation company. Now, shall I start on a deck, or an outbuilding, or what? It doesn't really feel like winning, since the only way I get to collect the prize is to spend another pile of money on the superstructure of whatever the screw piles sit underneath.

Oh, I knew that. On the previous page Shelly had mentioned the DT990 though. I just wanted to be the first to unrecommend them.

I love my HD600, and everytime we have a HF meet in Winnipeg, it seems to really impress at least one person who, prior to hearing them, was more focused on whatever was being hyped over there at that moment. I know you've already ordered, so it's a moot point, but I applaud your decision not to get the DT990 - I used to have one, and I found its sound signature quite fatiguing after half an hour of listening or less.
-
That is brutal. Hope you can get it fixed quickly.
-
Best wishes to you and your family, Todd.

No freaking kidding.

I seem to recall Jude saying at one point (I think around the same time as the switch to Huddler), in defense of all the advertising, that his intention was never to lose money on head-fi. As if he was in any danger of doing so at the time. Are you suggesting that, if someone were to launch a class-action suit over, say, the Singlepower debacle, HF might be a defendant?

Glad to hear it, Brent. Take care.
