I'm hoping we'll see more portable multitrack recorders, given the popularity of the Zoom H6. The Sony looks potentially nice, but I suspect it only does one stereo track at a time - either line-in or with the built-in mics - which is great unless you're a drummer who likes recording with a separate mic on the kick in addition to an overhead pair. Subscribed.

I spent two hours chasing calves through deep snow yesterday, as they kept breaking through different parts of the fence as I fixed the parts they had broken through previously. I'm going to take a T-bone out of the freezer today, methinks.

I have a friend who was in Australia working (on public safety among other things) for a territorial park in 2008 when bushfires were really bad. He said when the winds were up, the fires spread faster than people could drive, so basically if you could see the fire, you were toast.

Okay, this was really good. Trying to decide what to read next. I've got two Seanan McGuire books out from the library (the first October Daye and the second Incryptid), but I think I'm going to bleak it up a bit and read some Maddaddam by Margaret Atwood.

After all, it would be a waste of a shovel if all you used it for was snow.

They're just so damn awesome, and they don't panic and run away when they see people, so you can get a good long look at their behaviour.

I've used this trick, and it works. The double-membrane of bubble wrap with air in the middle provides decent insulation.

The main problem with a bedroom that cold is that it's difficult to convince me to get out of the warm bed.

Jacob, you might have some luck just wrapping that A/C in thick blankets on the inside, putting a garbage bag over the blankets, and wrapping the whole thing with rope. Then tape the joint between the garbage bag and the wall/window. It'll look like ass, but it should make a difference with the temperature.
