  1. Happy birthday!
  2. I just went outside and my face nearly froze off. -24 C with reasonably high winds. The end of February is supposed to be milder than this.
  3. Also, these guys. Recent discovery for me, and damn, they are good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ir_BVxBz5do&feature=kp
  4. I/we recently got confirmation that our bid to promote the Winnipeg stop of the PaganFest tour was accepted. It'll be on May 5. Really looking forward to this. I doubt if we'll make much (if any) money, and our co-promoter was leaning away from doing the show before I offered our investment. However it shakes down, I'm happy to be part of it - I've been a Korpiklaani and Turisas fan for a long time. Here are the rest of the tourdates/venues, in case you're in the areas. Turisas alone are worth the price of admission and then some. 04/25 - Empire - Springfield, VA 04/26 - Ottobar - Baltimore, MD 04/27 - Theater of Living Arts - Philadelphia, PA 04/28 - Irving Plaza - New York, NY 04/29 - Imperial - Quebec City, QC 04/30 - Metropolis - Montreal, QC 05/01 - The Opera House - Toronto, ON 05/02 - Alrosa Villa - Columbus, OH 05/03 - Mojoe's - Joliet, IL 05/04 - Skyway Theater - B - Minneapolis, MN 05/05 - Zoo Cabaret - Winnipeg, MB 05/07 - The Republik - Calgary, AB 05/08 - Rickshaw Theatre - Vancouver, BC 05/09 - El Corazon - Seattle, WA 05/10 - Toxic Lounge - Portland, OR 05/11 - The Fillmore - San Francisco, CA 05/12 - Ramona Mainstage - Ramona, CA 05/13 - House of Blues - West Hollywood, CA 05/15 - Summit Music Hall - Denver, CO 05/16 - The Riot Room - Kansas City, MO 05/17 - Harpo's - Detroit, MI 05/18 - The Palladium - Worcester, MA
  5. Besties. Again.
  6. These geezers can still rock. I'm looking forward to the new album, and I really hope they tour over here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJ2E_8V7-5w
  7. That's a shame. Every movie he touched was better for it.
  8. I got the car stuck in the driveway for something like the fourth time this winter yesterday. Took me about two hours to dig it out. It was awesome.
  9. Take a break from the shoveling and enjoy a stogie!
  10. Just putting this out there in case it can help. Harry Manx, a fixture on the Canadian folk-music scene, had a one-of-a-kind instrument (basically his livelihood) stolen recently. Here's a photo of it, and a message from him: Beloved friends, with a heavy heart I want to tell you all that this morning at Chicago Ohara airport, while I was on my way to retrieving my luggage, someone stole my beloved Mohan Veena (pictured to the left of me). Security cameras showed a man pick it up and walk out. I've had that Veena more than 20years. There's hardly been a day that I haven't played it. I feel as though I've lost a good friend. I need everyone's help to find it. If you know someone in Chicago, tell them about it. Maybe it will surface on Craigs list or E-bay. Maybe in a music store or Pawn shop. There's no missing it. The Veena is in a Black Fibreglass Case with lots of stickers. And the Veena has 20 Strings, 2 layers of strings running parallel. It has tuning heads right down the neck. No other instrument looks like this. I'm grateful for any help. thanks Harry
  11. American ryes tend not to be available in Canada, so I am not experienced with them. However, I really like some whiskies from the 40 Creek distillery in Ontario. The John's Private Cask blend is particularly good.
  12. Happy birthday!
  13. Nobody expects you to work when the gold medal curling match is on.

  14. Happy birthday!
  15. That's probably the next bottle for me. I've tried the 10, DE, and 18 from Talisker, and I like them all a lot.
  16. Nobody expects you to work when the gold medal hockey game is on.

  17. Have a great one, Colin!
  18. Hope you are having a great one!
  19. Happy birthday!
  20. That's a crazy storm. I'm impressed.
  21. Happy birthday!
  22. Whoa. Hope you are managing to avoid such chaos. At this time of year, I don't even notice an extra 2.5".
  23. That sounds nasty, Larry (the house stuff), but good job on getting it sorted out. With the help of a friend and the spare tire from his Ford truck, I managed to get the truck home this morning. We're expecting 4-6" of snow tonight, and high winds, so I'm glad that's done.
  24. Got a flat tire on the way home with the mattress, and there seems to be no spare. Called a friend/neighbour with a truck to give me and the mattress a lift the rest of the way home, and he helped me load it into the house. Tomorrow morning I should be able to track down a spare tire from any number of neighbours' Ford trucks. I'll probably have to boost it, too, since it's supposed to be -30 overnight. This is turning into quite a production.
  25. Just took delivery of a king-size mattress at work. The shipping company wouldn't deliver to my house, not even to the end of my driveway, for fear of getting the tractor-trailer stuck. I get that. Now I have to find some poor schmuck to help me load this beast into my parents' pickup truck. Thankfully, it's a small town, so I expect to have success by walking down the street and press-ganging someone. Edit: one walk down Main St., and I found someone to help. My town rawks.
