The Sony Walkman article was #1 at Ars Technica this year: https://arstechnica.com/staff/2023/12/the-20-most-read-stories-of-2023/ I didn't end up getting one as I felt the ergonomic issues, price, and battery life didn't quite gel, according to some reviewers. There have been several updates to each Walkman (there is a 156-page thread covering the NW-A707 at Head-Fi, 255 pages for the NW-A300 to date), but the prices remain high and people are still complaining about the volume limits on non-Japanese units.

Some of the YouTube comments complained the video was long on explanation, short on performance, but that early synthesizer wasn't ideal for performing, from what I can see... more useful for recording and experimentation, I think.

Restored 478-key, 31-tone Moog synthesizer from 1968 sounds beautifully bizarre: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/12/restored-478-key-31-tone-moog-synthesizer-from-1968-sounds-beautifully-bizarre/

  17. Wikipedia: "Danger Zone" is a song, with music composed by Giorgio Moroder and lyrics written by Tom Whitlock, which American singer-songwriter Kenny Loggins recorded and released in 1986. ... In 1986, Moroder collaborated with his protégé Harold Faltermeyer (of "Axel F") and lyricist Tom Whitlock to create the score for the film Top Gun (1986) which included Kenny Loggins' hit "Danger Zone" and Berlin's "Take My Breath Away". He wrote the theme song to the film Over the Top, "Meet Me Half Way", also performed by Loggins. In 1987, Moroder produced and co-wrote Falco's song "Body Next to Body". Moroder wrote the official theme songs, "Reach Out", for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, and "Hand in Hand", for the 1988 Seoul Olympics and "Un'estate italiana" for the 1990 FIFA World Cup. etc. Not quite... but there's nothing Giorgio Moroder couldn't do when he set his mind to it!

  21. Yes, a 27" iMac isn't an extreme ask. They haven't announced M3 updated MacBook Air, Mac Mini, Studio, or Mac Pro yet either, so it's possible more products are coming down the pipe in a few months. It would make sense to put the new M3 Pro and Max chips in an updated 27" iMac as the performance gains appear to be very impressive in some apps.

  24. Black is back. I noticed some interesting stuff... no native AV1 encode (decode only), no Thunderbolt 5 (yet), no Wi-Fi 7. The lower prices are a good sign. Most of the MacBook Pros ars still unaffordable for a lot of people, though. And thank goodness the iMac was updated... very welcome and good for those who were holding out. We'll see in a few days whether the performance claims are verified by reviewers and new owners.
