  1. Happy Birthday!
  2. The Chord Mojo was officially discontinued last summer. There is a bit of speculation about its successor... Chord has a tease pic with a date of January 31: https://chordelectronics.co.uk/coming-soon I hope they design it to run without a battery or resolve whatever battery issues were plaguing the Mojo. The Chord Mojo 2 is now available and the reviews are rolling out. I think I'll look into one seriously once they've eliminated the Micro-USB jack (for Poly compatibility). At some point, they'll probably change it to another USB-C for a Poly 2. An interesting post from the designer, Rob Watts, regarding its crossfeed implementation: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/chord-mojo-2-thread-___-product-released-january-31-2022-starting-on-page-95-of-thread.885405/post-16800704 This overview is decent:

  6. At first I struggled to even hear the difference between the original and the mashup because my volume was set too low. The track popped up randomly on my YouTube feed. It's more interesting that the composer for the Donkey Kong Country 2 tracks, Lockjaw's Saga and Mining Melancholy, must have been unconsciously influenced by In the Air Tonight and that the mashup artist heard that – gated reverb drum effects were everywhere after that track released:

  12. Thank you, George Benson. The sentiments from "The Greatest Love of All" also remind me of Marvin Gaye's "Save the Children" and Cat Stevens' "Where Do the Children Play"... must have been something in the water. I guess Vietnam, Nixon, the oil crises, stagflation, and a bunch of other stuff was making people give up on the adult generation.
  13. I've noticed AI-colorized and AI-upsampled video and photos appearing on the internet. Perhaps AI-upsampled or AI-mixed multichannel audio (i.e., you can move around virtually in the music venue) will be the successor to high-res audio. In its current state, I don't think most people would say high-res (in any form) has been a commercial success.
  14. Listening to a set of Beyerdynamic Amiron -> Chord Mojo -> Panasonic SL-CT820 was the best "portable" listening I've ever heard... I think some of the high-end Sony Walkman and Astell&Kern players are in that territory, but they've never appealed to me. They would be less cumbersome, though. It might take a while for wireless audio to reach the same heights.
  15. Techmoan does it best (he didn't mention that the high-end PCDPs had line-out and mini-Toslink optical outputs for outboard DACs, but it's not an audiophile channel):

  19. This random stropping video came up... seemed relevant for keeping woodworking tools (and other edges) sharp:
  20. Electric Light Orchestra – Face the Music I heard some hints of where Goldfrapp got their sound...
