  1. Yes, using only organic ingredients.
  2. hehe! No i've got a Naka1000 but i listen mainly to Cds through a Sonic frontiers SFt1 drive, Nordost Silver shadow digital cable, Goldmund Mimesis 14 converter, Shunyata King cobra & Wireworld Silver electra 5.2 power cables, two power filters for each "box" and seven levels of cancelling vib' devices under each (with Fadel amthyst, Golden sound cones + DH square, carbon/kevlar plates), bitumen inside boxes, and granite piece on the drive. All that amplified by tube (Prima luna power amp) and a real subwoofer.
  3. Well, to come back to the main issue, and in favor of portable Hifi, what's great with it is the ability to listen to music outdoor. Despite all i said up about the mediocrity of Mp3 players, i use a 80Go Imod and it enables to carry about 100 albums in uncompressed quality. Very convenient when you're far from your dear home system. Or simply when you're tired to be stuck indoor with your home system. But of course there's no comparison.
  4. Yes cassette is the most fragile format but as an analog one, it smokes most digital. Do you prefer CD over vinyl? That would explain a lot of things.
  5. I use only lossless files of course and my portable setup is described in my sig.
  6. i'm talking about digital sources.
  7. Thanks, but i won't invest that much for my poor portable system, i'll keep my ALO thin-sounding ones!
  8. Just curious, what do you call good digital? you must have a HUGE budget! IMO, a Naka 1000 zxl smokes almost anything digital, at least in musicality, including the biggest Levinson setups....
  9. How much? Some pics?
  10. Yes we disagree. IMO, the WM d6 is more everything (more matter, more dynamic, more low and high) than any mp3 player, just like a good home deck (Naka 1000zxl) smokes many Cd setups. I find the Imod to be thin, and badly lacking extension in the highs. I have heard about that Naka 550 ( reel to reel, isn't it?), i've been interested in this PMD430, but it's a Mono player if i remember well.
  11. It has nothing to do with the amp. I've got the Imod and the Iqube, whatever the amp used, the WM D6 smokes the Ipod/Imod/Imod + VCap. The WM D6 even smoke quite a few CD players, linked to a home system. Because it's analog!
  12. My opinion about all that is yes, portable hifi is silly, as long as you use a mp3 player as source. Even the Imod + Icap hardly beats the best discman, and is smoked by the Sony Pro Walkman WM D6 playing a good tape (yes of course, because of analog superiority). Yes i do agree that portable amps are not that good, but try the best ones (Iqube, Pico) with a great home source i.e and efficient good headphones and you'll hear that the overall result can be great, even if it's miles behind a home amp. So the problem is the MP3 source which is too limited (playing only uncompressed files of course, compressed ones being not listenable at all). Mp3 is the most convenient, but what you win in convenience, you loose it in quality.
