  2. Mystery of why the university didn't close solved.
  3. Everything in CT is closed today, except UConn. They sent out a defiant email saying, in essence, we know we should close, but we have already closed twice this year and we just don't want to do it again.
  4. I think it is the WTW4800BQ -- we got ours from Home Depot, and that seems to match. I don't know that this would be great for a family with a bunch of kids and sports equipment, etc. but for the two of us, it does just fine.
  5. We needed a new washer and after looking around ended up buying just about the cheapest, feature barren, upright washer we could. No front loading, no digital control, no high efficiency, etc. I think it was $360 delivered and installed (well under the cost to repair the old one). It works great. No lint, no stink, no leaks, clothes get clean, it is fast and reasonably quiet.
  6. Happy Birthday!
  7. Mine too. In the summer of 1993, I called some fly-by-night headphone company that was advertising in Stereophile. After asking about the SR-60s, they advised me to buy some SR-80s and a "Little" amp instead as they were sure I'd be much happier. Even though it took months to get them as they were backordered, in the end I was I happily used that setup for almost 10 years.
  8. That's what hammers are for.
  9. Firefox does the same for me. To see the URL, click the image to load the pop-up. Then click the save icon, then copy the URL from the place where URLs live, whatever that's called. EDIT: Address Bar -- that's what it's called.
  10. We got at least double what we had from the last storm of the century. Just spent about 2 hours clearing the driveway and walk. It only took so long because the snow blower would spit it into the air, and the wind would put it right back where it started.
  11. Really? It's not much more work for lots of benefit. The RIAA doesn't change-- you just go from signal to signal instead of signal to ground (and double the impedance). The benefit is not worrying about grounding and noise. If I was only going to have one balanced component, it would be the phono stage.
  12. I realized it after I read your post pointing it out but maybe I should make a phono stage ...
  13. My LP12 does not have auto start/stop, so it must be wrong.
  14. Ari's suggestions are the way to go if you want to do some leg work. If not, you can get a "turntable" on Amazon for ~$50. If you want something you'd actually want to listen to, a used Pro-ject of some sort, or even a new one + a Hagerman Bugle would probably be the way to go.
  15. It looks like we got about 25-30% of the expected 2 feet.
  16. We went out and bought emergency provisions yesterday which included some Starbucks double shots, and a bag of caramel corn. Also, conveniently enough, the old gas boiler would have run just fine with the power out. But because millivolt systems no longer meet code, the new boiler won't. Worst upgrade ever. Last year, UConn canceled classes at the mere hint that snow might be coming. This year, nothing yet.
  17. I could use a snow day on Tuesday.
  18. Happy Birthday!
