This sounds like something is oscillating. It is almost certainly not due to a ground loop, bad outlet, cable, power cord, air conditioner, etc, and it likely going to require a scope and knowledge of the circuit to diagnose.- Happy 60th Birthday, Grahame!

We occasionally have sugar maple with tap holes around here. It looks similar, except the holes are larger.- Woodworkers of Head Case unite!

@blessingx When I was in the used camera business, we had a small stash of old Alpas which are still my favorites. https://casualphotophile.com/2018/03/21/alpa-10d-camera-review-swiss-35mm-film-slr/- The Official Head-Case Photography Thread.
Regarding the initial comparison of the Daguerre Giroux vs. the Fox Talbot: the construction of the DG, with the grain running top to bottom, will cause the distance between the lens and the film to change with humidity as the wood swells and contracts thus throwing it out of focus. The front to back grain of the FT will be stable in that regard. It's a minor thing that probably didn't really matter at the time, but it's an interesting form vs function distinction. Also, the Brownie wasn't produced in the tradition of the Model T as it predates it by a decade- Happy Birthday Ric!

To be clear, the walnut will work fine for the base. Better than fine. Ash would be optimizing, but it is guilding the lily and any hardwood is going to do the job. Similar for the top - if i had a stash of stock that I wasn't going to use for anything else, I'd use it there. If I were starting from scratch and deciding what the buy, I'd do something like the ash/maple combo.- Woodworkers of Head Case unite!
For a Roubo, I'd do ash for the legs for strength and flexibility, and maple for the top for hardness.- Songs You Came Across On Some Streaming Service And Thought Your Head-Case Buds Might Enjoy Too. No Critical Endorsement Implied. Fuck Vevo etc.

Doing a lot of hand tool work, particularly planing down boards, will put a lot of side to side pressure on a bench. The advantage of the Roubo design is that the legs through the top helps prevent racking. I have a Sjoberg that is poorly designed in that regard, that needs to be re tightened regularly, and that is probably going to fail soon. But if you aren't hand planing, then it is not really a big deal.- What Are You Baking?

I think the Tritons might have that feature. I've not used one so I don't know how well it works.- Woodworkers of Head Case unite!
Can't speak to either of those, but I would look for one with built in micro adjustment. And perhaps for something even smaller (1.5HP) since weight is a factor.- Need ideas for a 8ft x 10ft workshop
