Jesus those transformers are huge... That would likely be the most awesome version of the MKI headphone out there. SR007BL+MK2 pads ftw!

Got a response from Craig. Confirming Stax strict policy with parts, he thinks it could be a little difficult to do a larger order but is definately looking into it to see if it can be arranged. The pricing hes giving me for the purchase of a set of pads if you were to buy individually is about 7500JPY, which comes to around 80ish USD. He charges a $10 basic fee + 8% commision. If we do a personal payment transfer it cuts the commission down to 5% of the total cost. Hopefully he can arrange to get them at lower cost than 7500JPN, which would definately mean significant savings. But doing a group buy at the regular price means for example, that if we get more than 10 people to do it, we'll basically be saving on the $10 basic commision fee which only needs to be payed for once per transaction. So the maximum savings at the regular price would be about $10 dollars per person, as long as we can get 10 people or more. After 10 people it doesn't matter how many because the savings will max out at $10 per person. So i'm not sure if thats significant enough to warrant a group buy, but if the regular price could be lowered, then perhaps it might be more worth it. Although $10 isn't bad, since I know we could probably get 10 people who want these anyways. Now I just need to come up with some sort of number of buyers interested for Craig, but we shouldn't start a group buy thread unless we get a good deal and the green light to do so. How many buyers do you guys think we could get? Maybe 10-20 would be a good estimate?

I sent an email to Craig about this. If anything comes of it perhaps we can start a thread in the group buy forum. I can already think of quite a few member here that would be potentially interested.

MK2 padz group buy in order?

I've been in contact with Craig lately, but hes been a little slower with response to emails because hes in the process of moving. He'll get back to you soon enough.

Long way from being domesticated and he sleeps with the children under their covers.....?!? You must be joking.

Ehh, lets just say that the Qualia deal didn't go so well. The seller was not really truthful about the condition of the headphones, and I might not even be able to return them back to him. For the price I paid(over 4100usd through Kuboten), its not worth it for me(sacraficing alot of things money wise), so if I do receive them(in the event the seller won't take them back), I will try my best to recondition the earpads, and rid the headphones of any smoke smell. Time to use some Autoglym, and Lexol conditioner to bring that leather back to shape! Its really sad, as I want no headphone more than the Qualia. Perhaps my only chance is if Steve(ASR) would possibly consider a trade for his Qualia and my K1000(plus cash on my side of course), if he ever decides that that would be what he wanted to do. I know hes interested in the K1000 as a possible replacement for the Qualia. Thanks! I got this K1000 on Ebay. The seller claims that the headphones are unused and to me it seems the case. No blemishes, new looking temple pads, completely perfect cherry wood box. He says that he used to collect AKG microphones back in the day and was getting into Austrian engineering, so he got a K1000 as well. He said he has put them on top of his speakers on display for small periods of time, but never listened to them becuase he listened to his speakers. Its a higher serial number, so perhaps tipped in the treble. But to me the differences between different serial# K1000s is small IME. I've always liked the K1000, and its one of three dynamics I have interest in, the other two being the Qualia and R10. Who knows, maybe i'll like it more than the Qualia once I listen to it in a non meet environment for the first time.

Didn't you try the MK2 in the Woo Audio room @ CJ? To me they were a lot more comfortable.

This NOS K1000(Serial#10092) Now i'll actually have the headphones to match my avatar:D

Justin, better yet since I have a spare set of new MKI pads, I can hook you up with the set thats on my O2 right now for 45 shipped. Its still in almost brand new condition(full, not compressed w/no deep wrinkles or anything). Been meaning to try some MK2 pads so maybe that will push me to do so.

AudiocubesII is overpriced. I got my MKI pads a while back when they still were available from Kuboten and it was 75 bux(sorry Justin, not 45 cheap). I'm sure you could get a hold of some MKII pads for cheaper than AudiocubesII. Hit Craig up.

Real leather or not, the MK2 pads are sexy and much more comfortable. I want to put some on my MKI and turn it into the MK3.

Happy Birthday to you!

Have a great one Al!

Nope, thats just a well driven, well fitted Qualia 010.
-
Its very honorable what you're doing. Stay safe out there.

My second Qualia, this time a red one. Bad case of seller's remorse.

Of course you didn't, you used the word rubbery. That right there is disqualification of being a review.

Incredible work KG. This furthers the reason why I cannot believe Stax manufactured these amps and sold them for so little.

Happy Birthday to you!

Haven't heard the 404LE or SR-SC1 which some say are similar to each other, but the Lambdas i've owned and heard are just not as musically satisfying as the HE60. Even with lesser Stax amplification, the HE60 sound more refined to my ears. I was hoping to hear them from a BH, but sadly it looks like that won't be happening anymore. My only gripe was lack of bass quantity, slightly etched mids, and highest treble, plus its slightly diffused nature. If the BH cures that, than the HE60 would be mighty fine and able to compete with the very top headphones from a technical aspect. From a musical aspect, I think they rank among the highest already.
