  1. Happy Birthday!
  2. I'm really glad that's behind me ...
  3. Get well soon! Vicki, that sounds great. It's so cool that they have such an event!
  4. Good luck CJ!! Just relax and be honest. Don't go crazy trying to impress them, just re-read that great application essay you wrote and remember why you're doing this. Don't forget you are interviewing them, too. They should treat you like a human and be interested in you as a person. Get to know their teaching philosophy. One school let me hang out with one of their teaching docs at his clinic and he spent some time showing me the clinic and I even saw a patient with him. I should have gone to that school. Pay attention to what school fits your personality, including which students you feel most comfortable hanging out with. Look around the school and picture yourself spending many many many hours there. Can you picture that happily? Or does that seem miserable? Yes I think each school I interviewed was pretty much all day. But that was 25 freakin' years ago! My dementia could be kicking in ... They want to see what you're like after being tired and stressed out all day. Make a trip out of it. Check things out. Don't freak out. Everyone else is going through the same. And everyone expects you to be nervous. I know I was. Good luck, let us know how it goes!
  5. House made. tortilla chips and guacamole, tomatillo salsa, 3 chiles salsa. Woodland mushroom, goat cheese, pork and beans torta. Hibiscus and lemongrass infused iced tea pistachio churros with pistachio dipping sauce pics to follow ...
  6. At Rick Bayless's place, Xoco, and he's standing right in front of me helping in the kitchen. Didn't think he'd be right in there still getting his hands dirty!
  7. Ha! Congrats, CJ! You'll figure it out. Just keep it fun!
  8. Will be interested in your impressions!
  9. Does it fit in your pants pocket?
  10. This weekend I finished my certification course in Informatics and received the certificate. Not sure I'll ever do anything in the field, but it's nice to have it. It was really well run, especially for a VA run affair, the only frustrations being things that were outside their control. Met some good folks, got to shake hands with Al's sister, super nice lady, learned a few things, ... but really, really glad to have a smidgen of free time back. Going to the national meeting on Informatics through Wednesday, we''ll see what it's about.
  11. More congrats on the interviews by the way. Your essay really was excellent. And your test scores were excellent, save for the one subsection which was merely good. I'm glad they can look at the overall applicant and not just one subsection of a test score. The amount of biology that any of us know any more by the time we are done is miniscule.
  12. Dry aged rocks. I think if you thank the cow for its life, that should suffice, no?
  13. There was a refurbed one in the Apple store last wk. Can't check now behind the VA firewall, but perhaps worth checking.
  14. Hopefully not just temporarily!
  15. Hopefully there's nothing wrong with it. When I sold mine a year ago, it sold within a few hours of listing. Good luck! It's the journey not the destination. Kinda. Sorta.
  16. Great news, CJ!
  17. Yeah, me too. Sorry, but I owned one for a while, and was underwhelmed. Just seemed flat and uninteresting at low volume, and I didn't like turning up the volume. Didn't think much about why, but Ryan's experience makes sense as an explanation. I'd guess at the time, since it was early in the evolution of headphone amps, it might have been a new and exciting thing. But much has been learned over time, and there are just a lot better options now. Frustrating, but also a good learning experience.
  18. Done ... awesome job, Vicki! Good luck!
  19. Just finished trick or treating. Had our usual couple hundred kids come by.
