You could call Vic Frey at Calumet. He's actually at Calumet New York. He's usually cheaper than B&H and much easier to deal with.

Dave's True Story is worth checking out. Any of their albums would do, but I guess Sex Without Bodies is their seminal work.

Dr Wood. If it ain't broke.........ah, sorry. Dr Wood is pretty tough to beat.

Steve, Nothing I can think of to say seems quite right. Being me, I should say something in character, like: "It's all good. But the Celine Dion part is really frightening." Then there's what most of us probably think (and some have said much more eloquently), which is: "You're important to us. Your sexual orientation isn't." But it is important. What you just did takes a massive amount of guts. Even in places like my neighborhood, where every second person is gay and nobody much thinks about it anymore, there is still enough hatred floating around to send chills down the spine of any normal, reasonably aware, person. We're proud of you. BTW, I was kind of bummed I only met you briefly at CanJam. Just the way stuff goes, I guess. Shelly, since I'm suddenly all serious, I'll just say it straight out. Congratulations. A lasting relationship with somebody you love is the best thing ever. All the rest is details.

Done with work downtown. I'll visit Jazzmart, do an errand, and move to the CJ hotel tomorrow mid-day-ish. Does anybody know anything about a jazz club called Andy's? It was well recommended by a co-worker today. It's only a couple blocks from here, but with only two hours sleep in the last 36, I doubt I'll make it tonight. but maybe a trek tomorrow or Saturday?

There's one in Hallandale, right near thew freeway. I have to go down to the FBI (shit. long stupid story) on Wednesday, so you want me to pick up a pair or you? Edit: Check that. They don't show up on Guitar Center's website. Does anybody know if they are actually in the stores?

Awesome book. Perhaps his best.

I'll soon be facing a similar situation. So, a dumb question: What does 80/20 mean in the context of racks? And if anybody has any great aesthetic suggestions whose style I could, ah, be inspired by (knock off), once my lazy ass gets done building some other stuff, they would be appreciated.

This is too weird. since my last post, I got a call from my wife who said that the LOL t-shirt of the day today was her design, new customer, etc. I figure, OK, I'll grab one. I look and ...... "Sizes fit snug", it says. Sheesh! How hard would it be to make standard sizes, like large= 15 1/2 / 34 or whatever?
-
Does the sizing match last year's shirts, or are these expected to shrink more than last year's? I never do well at this size compensation thing.
-
Nice shirt! According to my co-worker who worked in LA for a few years, that strip club was a landmark. We're talking loss of a cultural icon here. I just paid my registration and booked a room for Thursday night (downtown, near work)

Ah I see now. I took a look and saw the new forum software. Kinda wondered what would possess someone to make such a change on such a big site. (Never mind that vBulletin works.) Thanks for shedding light.

Slightly off the newbie topic... H-F revamped? Did I miss something? I've been sort of absorbed in my own little (mostly work) world lately. Haven't been getting out much.

Be Shure to give 'em a while to break in. Mine changed a lot - and for the better - over time. (Sorry. couldn't help myself.

Grado SR-60i vs. SR-80i whats the real diff, worth it?

That's if your amp swings enough voltage for the Senns, which, judging by sound, most portable devices don't. I hate it when my wonderful colleagues in the media do stuff like that. -
I actually loved the streaming service - never used the CD trading version. I liked that I could listen all the way through a song once for free. Then, if I had some interest in an album, I could "bookmark" it for a dime. I thought that was cool. Sadly, none of that looks to be in the future. It's just the access-your-collection-in-the-cloud part, which I rarely used. Why bother? Most of my collection, or at least more than Lala recognized, is on my portable at much better quality. At a dime a song you could also do wacky things like making a play list from the 211 recorded versions of "Knocking on Heaven's Door".

Too good to last, maybe. Or maybe it just becomes another product. Apple To Shut Down Lala On May 31, iTunes.com Launch Impending?

I'm back. I visited Soundgarden, grabbed a couple records and a CD by a fellow who calls himself The Tallest man in the World that was playing on the PA while I was in the store. A quick listen suggests that the recording is especially well suited to being played through the PA of an old record store, but the music is interesting. A most enjoyable hour or so. I didn't have time to get to El Supremo. I was only able to steal away for about an hour total. Crazy trip.

Thanks! That looks like an easy enough cab ride from here. I'll check it out

I'm in Baltimore at the moment and tomorrow (this, actually) morning, I may have a couple hours free. Anybody know of a good record store in the Inner Harbor area?
-
Record store - I finally remembered this place from a trip I made to Chicago at Blues Fest time a few years ago. Jazz Record Mart Web Store It was pretty killer back then.

That looks pretty official. The support people told me the hardware had been rejected and they were waiting for new hardware, which wouldn't be in hand until the third quarter. Maybe their left hand wasn't talking to their right. "Two men say they're Jesus. One of them must be wrong" - Dire Straits I downloaded the new server. It looks like it will be another nightmare to make it run on Mandriva 2007, if indeed it is possible at all. Arrrgh!

I'm pretty suspicious of this. I just had to RMA one of my Squeezeboxes. There was some question of whether or not Logitech would replace it under warranty, since it was technically out of warranty and actually out of the grace period. If something breaks and is out of warranty, they give a credit towards the purchase of a new unit. I asked about the Touch (which is, or would be, the direct replacement for the SB3) and they said they didn't expect it to actually ship until the fall. If they got production stock in hand six months early, that's great news. But how often does that really happen?
