  1. Santa delivered these goodies from Steve...going into the music server now.... full report later. I'll be starting with the duets album, 'cause lately I'm totally into duets. Thank you Steve!
  2. I'm going with static discharge. That I've never heard of such a thing in south Florida only makes it more plausible. I've experienced some nerve misfire sorts of sensations that have felt like shocks, but they were in big muscles (Well, not that I have big muscles. It's relative.) This doesn't sound like that.
  3. Hang in there Mike.
  4. I don't know quite what to make of this. It was on my MOG queue. I have no recollection of why I put it there. I must not think it sucks. I've listened almost all the way through as I write this. The sound is as brittle as freeze dried dry leaves, sadly. http://mog.com/m/track/56819625
  5. Absolute Sound review said this was good. It is. Listening on MOG now. It's supposed to be available on 45 rpm vinyl. http://mog.com/m/album/11395813
  6. Somehow this makes me feel better. Gotta build some record storage units. And find a place to put them.
  7. Miguel, there are free computer-based versions versions of both MOG and Spotify. So you can test drive them. Of course, that won't tell you which app is better. I have a paid MOG account and a free Spotify one. Of the two, I like MOG better, especially for sound quality. There's a comparison article up on Tyll's site that runs down all the services. I think they're all ten bucks a month on a phone.
  8. Way to go Chris! Miguel, I think there are some snaps from the party on Bonnie's cameraphone. I'll see if I can get my hands on them. Meanwhile, the unusual TV lady can be found here: http://miamitvchannel.com Her entire wardrobe apparently consists of tops with seriously open necklines. I'm OK with that.
  9. It turns out that you have to have Logitech Media Server 7.77 (yes, they changed the name of Squeezeboxserver /SlimServer/SqueezeCenter yet again) in order to play MOG through your own server. You can play it through the server at MySqueezeBox.com, but upon going there your Squeezebox will get all grumpy about wanting firmware to match the server version. So it's best to upgrade to LMS 777 I ran into some upgrade weirdness on my VortexBox that I should post about in the Squeezebox Touch thread or start a new one. It would have been totally simple had I known at the beginning of the process what I knew at the end.
  10. Went to Art Basel Miami (yesterday, actually) lots of fun stuff. Then we went to an underground Art Basel party in a warehouse not quite in the design district, inexplicably co-sponsored by the German Consulate, at the invite of a photographer I'd never met. It was pretty non-linear but a good time. Free drinks. We ate at a food truck (there was just one. it had apparently strayed from its herd) The affair was a largely visual experience. There were bands, but the acoustics of the warehouse were so bad you could only guess by looking what kind of music they were playing: portly middle-aged lady probably a jazz singer. Four young people wearing ties maybe punk, maybe ska. Bonnie bought Haitian-style prints from white-haired Austrian guy in a black suit. There was a guy with a long leather coat (that I coveted) who looked exactly like a villain from a British caper movie. And the highlight had to have been the TV reporter from some obscure (to me at least) internet-only outfit who was wearing the mini-est mini skirt I've ever seen, maybe the mini-est ever. Her hem in the back was, by quite careful estimation, approximately at the midline of her butt. The whole party was like being pulled into a Tom waits song.
  11. Acoustic Sounds has it in vinyl, according to the catlog they sent this week.

  13. What Nate said...
  14. We did our LakeWatch sampling today. The creek was glassy smooth and the day was as beautiful as it gets - crystalline air and about 75 degrees.
  15. Interesting. Who is this is Epstein guy?
  16. Oh. Since you speak of problems, it reminds me ..... the one operational thing I noticed but forgot to mention when I had the Neko was that if I stopped my Squeezebox by simply pressing the "Off" button with the volume still up, which is how I tend to do it, actually, I would get a nasty noise. Not a driver-busting, hearing-loss-causing zero-dB turn-off blast, but a long burst of hash at about listening level. Since it's not the sort of thing that can actually hurt anything, it wouldn't be worth fixing if there's a sonic trade-off involved. I can't tell you what exactly the Squeezebox does when you turn it off. There was a long standing issue where it would keep the digital connection alive, to the befuddlement of DACs which auto-switch to the active source. That was supposed to be fixed and the output is supposed to go completely dead now. But that was all a bunch of firmware revs ago, so there's no telling what it does now, or how long it takes to do it..
  17. JP came over for left-overs with the drop dead gorgeous new Audio Technica Anniversary Edition W1000Xs in hand. They are stunning, both sonically and visually. Went to Record Store Day at Radio Active (Didn't we just have record store day, a few months ago? Oh well. Record Store Day part deux on Black Friday, I guess.) John reported that the place was jammed at 9 in the morning. It was still jammed at 9 at night. A most excellent day.
  18. Happy belated Birthday Alex! Somehow, I just saw the thread.
  19. Kinda what Miguel said. Except I have heard it. Want it. No dough. Happy Thanksgiving!
  20. This. All of it. We're near the end of a 15 year note at what by today's standards is a usurious rate, but it's such a hassle to refi. I'm tempted to just pay the darn thing off - which would leave me short on cash and having to deal with the insurance and taxes myself. That doesn't sound like much fun either, so we coast along. Bryan- time reporting systems are supposed to be confusing and operating them is supposed to burn more time than you can bill. No one knows why. It's an ancient tradition. Go get 'em!
  21. That hurts just to look at.
  22. Quote of the year! Congratulations! You'll be in that guy's source list with a bullet. Yeeees!

  24. No, I'm getting the error on tracks that are in my favorites. So they should certainly be available on the service. It might have been a transient thing. I'll try again tonight when i get home.
  25. Happy Birthday Dinny!
