I was looking at building a pair of speakers and was thinking about doing something a bit wacky... has anyone heard the planars they sell on parts express? those Bohlender Graebener ones... either the smaller ones or the insanely large ones? ex. Parts-Express.com - Search Results i found a few projects online using the smaller Neo-8 in both single and line-array configurations... and then all sorts of insane projects using the RD75 75" planar driver with line arrays of larger drivers next to them etc... anyone ever actually listen to any of these things? lol thanks

haha something like that im going to see if i open up that 2505 and start ordering the parts to get it operational again... after that im probably going to build some new speakers and bi-amp them...

really? your signature would have never suggested that anyway... i <3 mcintosh... if the op dosent mind heres my mcintosh stuff: moar info: the ST6's are being driven by the McIntosh 2105 which is hooked up to the McIntosh C26 preamp... the DAC is the Behringer DEQ2496 (which I installed a ZAP Filter in - night and day difference from stock) which is hooked up via optical to the Marantz SR7001 and everything (HTPC/BluRay player) is hooked up to the Marantz via HDMI which also goes to the TV via HDMI... the subwoofer is hooked up to the L+R "center" output of the C26 The McIntosh MC4000 on the wall is hooked up to the 5 channel output of the Marantz when I want to do surround i move around some wires and it drives the two ST6's, the Klipsch in the center, and a pair JBL Control 1's in the rear... but i rarely bother with the whole surround thing since the DACs in the Marantz dont really sound very good the 2505 needs new output transistors and a cap replaced... interesting bit about the 2505 also, the original owner was jack horkheimer the "star gazer"

every pair i have recabled has looked like this... never seen that other type of PCB... the only thing i can offer is try and leave the iron on for as little time as possible when your removing the PCB... remember those metal pins are set in plastic, so heating them too long will cause them to move around

i just let people listen, then they dont question them ever again

i should be able to make it...

i would just like to add... tireiron, i hate you... i was so happy with my headphone collection... SO HAPPY then i asked, hey, wtf are those? *points at jades* and you tell me, i thought you might be interested in these... WHY?! why didnt you lie to me and tell me "they are crap stay away!" i dont have $1500 lol (which ironically is $100 less than i paid for my HE60's >_< doh lol) argh!!! :palm::palm: that being said, i really enjoyed the jades... they sounded really nice out of tyrions KGSS and even out of my lesser Stax SRM-1/MK-2 lol they do NOT sound like HE-90's to me... (which to me is a good thing, i think the he-90's had too much of their own sound and were not true to the music... dont get me wrong, they are excellent headphones, but not my thing) the jades sound more like HE-60's but with significantly more bass extension and quantity, giving them a hyper-detailed balanced sound... truly excellent sounding headphones IMHO i know i could just sell some headphones, but all i ever hear at the meets is "oh i owned xyz headphone, sold it, biggest mistake i ever made" but I cant justify owning 8 pairs of headphones LOL additionally at that point i think the value of all my headphones would exceed the value of my vehicle or pretty much anything else i own
-
i agree... i have heard these headphones countless times in lots of different setups and i just cant get myself to like them... even if they were $500 instead of $5000 i just dont like the way the sound at all... just not my cup of tea lol
-
LOL!!! thats awesome!!! i love how people will blow insane amounts of money on wire... but oh well, what do i know
-
i like my HE60's *sniff* lol j/k at least i think you approve of my dynamight still lol
-
Mogami in a balanced config with a 4pin neutrik XLR... cheap and great im guessing you guys are kidding? not sure what the reference is but you cant balance one of those headphones by just replacing the wire lol
-
why?
-
sounds like marketing to me... i guess your 1's and 0's will sound better? lol additionally im so tired of reading everyone talking about blu-ray and "blue" lasers... BR uses violet lasers

PCP&C are by far the best... any reason why you are looking at such a larger power supply? honestly unless you have dual quad core CPU's, tons of watt hungry GPU's and like 20 15k RPM hard drives a 1000w psu is probably going to be huge overkill

lol ive been told this is now the site to be at... i always thought this was the "bad/taboo" site lol first meet in a long while, kinda got disheartened by a lot of the stuff going on at the other site... so hopefully i can get excited about my audio stuff again was a great time! nice seeing everyone again! i was really impressed by those "HE90 clones" im really tempted to drop the $1500 but the school board is doing a lot of job cuts and i have a feeling im going to have an unemployed xmas
