  1. Unfortunately, I know nothing about the SVS speakers. Since we are talking about SVS, has anyone heard their sealed subs? I am asking for an SB-2000 for Christmas from hubby. I don't think I can get him to allow anything bigger for the living room (or much more expensive). I'll be using this with a pair of Monitor Audio RX6.
  2. I am buying my mom an 13" Air (with ugraded RAM) for Christmas and want to ship it to store. Right now, it says it's in stock. When I go to check out, it shows the following options. Line Price Ship:Available to ship: In StockDelivers: Dec 15 by 2 Business Days to Change shipping options Pick up:In about a week at Apple Store, Victoria Gardens Change store(Current selection: Apple Store, Victoria Gardens) Note: Pickup Items cannot be purchased with an Education Loan Does anyone know what "In about a week" means? Usually, it gives me an estimated date (for custom orders) of arrival or it is available immediately. I suppose this will ship from some warehouse in the US instead of being custom built in China since it claims that it is in stock and can be delivered by the 15th (which is too early because I won't be there to get it).
  3. One more question. What speed SD card should I buy for extra storage? 30 MB/s, 40MB/s, 60MB/s, more?
  4. If anyone cares, I decided to splurge and go with the Dell Chromebook 11 (bought directly from Dell) because I could get it with the Haswell Celeron processor and 4GB of RAM. It also has the best build quality of the three. We've had good luck with Dell products in the past so hopefully this works out.
  5. I think I've narrowed it to 3 Chromebooks (all have SD card) 1) Acer C720 - 2GB RAM - Haswell Intel Celeron processor - $200 for 16GB SSD, $250 for 32GB the build quality isn't as good as the Dell or Asus. No 4GB RAM option. Significantly faster than the Asus and other Intel Bay Trail processors. Thousands of reviews on amazon (mostly good but some complaints of wifi connectivity). 2) Asus C200 - 4GB RAM - Intel Bay Trail processor - $239 for 32 SSD Slower than the Dell and Acer. Good build quality for the price. 3) Dell Chromebook 11 - Hawell Intel Celeron processor - $299 for 16GB A little faster than the Acer and much faster than the Asus. Better build qualilty (in reviews) than the Acer (and even the Asus I think). Cons: Lack of reviews from customers (on amazon or Dell). I might just go with the Acer C720 16GB and a 64GB external SD card because it is the most popular and cheapest. Any opinion? If the Dell had more reviews from customers I would probably go with it though.
  6. New iMac is here! <long version>The size seems fine. It wouldn't hurt to have a couple of extra inches but it seems more my size. The fan in the new machine is much quieter than the last one I had; I haven't noticed it at all. I can hear it if I put my head close to computer and have it really quiet in the house but it doesn't bother me in normal operating conditions. Tidal now works in HIFI on this machine in Chrome. I don't know if it is because the operating system was screwed up on the last machine or if they updated Tidal, but I am very happy. I am no longer getting the spinning ball of death when trying to switch sound output. I think that particular computer had some issues and I'm glad I took it back and got a new one. </long version> I has a happy now.
  7. She will be transferring photos/ videos (from her phone or cheap camcorder, not super high resolution). Would the upgraded processor be useful for this? I'm definitely getting 4GB RAM.
  8. I just noticed that some of the Acer C720 have an Intel i3 processor. I wonder if it is worth spending an extra $100 over the Asus to get that. http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/models/laptops/c720
  9. The Toshiba looks good but it is sold out at bhphoto and amazon.com (only 3rd parties selling it). Those two stores and google play are the only places I want to deal with.
  10. I'm going to buy my niece (12 years old) a new chromebook for Christmas (her Uncle stepped on her old one and broke it, at least the screen). She really liked her other one. Has anyone recently researched them? I am think of the Asus C200 with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM. It has a SD card reader which will be good for storage expansion. It's not the fastest but seems to be well built. Is there another one that is clearly better (and still around $300 or below). 11" would be better (since she doesn't have a lot of room in her bedroom) but 13" might be ok and SD card reader is a must.
  11. I think I am going to my dad a new basic desktop computer. His computer is about a million years old but he is way too cheap and stubborn to replace it. I think I may get him a Dell Inspiron 3000. It has a reasonable processor (Intel Quad Core 4th gen i5 3.2GHz), is not too expensive, has 8GB RAM, and I can always upgrade to an SSD if needed. He doesn't do much on it (just listens to music, some basic spreadsheets, and browses the web). I can get it with Window 7 or 8. I am leaning towards 7 because 8 is pretty different than he is used to using (XP). Is there any reason to go with Windows 8? For example, is Windows going to stop supporting 7 or is Windows 8 more secure?
  12. Wow Bryan! Good find on the 27yr!
  13. Somehow I managed to take last place in both leagues this year! That was the goal, right? Ok... I do have to share the honor with Brent in the 2nd league.
  14. Restarted my tidal subscription. I'm going to give it a month before deciding.

    The Wire

Interesting. I wonder how it will compare to the 4:3 format. I hope one can still stream the non-HD version on HBO go.

    Deals

I am just planning to use the Fire Stick for Amazon prime streaming (instead of the PS3). Apple TV for everything else. Is the Fire stick all that bad?
  17. Which one should I start with? Single Barrel?
  18. This! I am also very picky so I wouldn't want someone else choosing my vegetables/meat/fruit.
