  1. My current desktop speaker setup is Benchmark DAC2 -> Pioneer Elite A-35R Int amp -> KEF LS50 (I also have the GS-1 on the desktop for headphones but haven't been using it with the speaker setup). I feel that there is still a bit lacking from the KEF LS50s so I swapped out the Marantz SR6005 receiver for the Pioneer A-35R. The sound was much warmer and more powerful. While I feel that setup was too bass heavy for me, I think that there is probably something lacking in my cheapie Pioneer Elite. I have been thinking about getting a Parasound A23 to replace the Pioneer Elite. I wonder if there will be too much volume going balanced out of the DAC2 since I am listening at the desk. Should I go for an amp or int amp. The DAC has volume control but according to the manual, for it to sound best, it should be at least at 11pm. So perhaps I should get an int amp or maybe use the GS-1 (which would mean sticking with a non-balanced amp). Would a pure balanced setup have that many benefits over a non-balanced setup? Anyone know anything about the Parasound A23? http://www.parasound.com/a23.php
  2. Happy Birthday Stephen!!!
  3. I don'treally understand how credit cards decide who they want as a customer. Several years ago I applied for a credit card from CapitalOne 360 (I wanted one that would not change a fee when using it internationally). Even though I use my current cards a lot and pay them off each month AND had a ton of money in a CapitalOne 360 account that had been open since it was owned by Netbank, I was denied! I wonder if it was a mistake or if they though, nope, we don't want this person because they aren't going to run up cc debt.

    Deals

They're not on sale, they're from the outlet. I'd prefer to buy new. I just haven't decided whether getting a sub in an apartment is a good idea or else I would have one already. If you do see new subs on sale, please let me know though.
  7. I'm so sorry to hear this Mike. Please give big hugs to Debbie for me. RIP Sugarbear.
  8. ^What kind?
  9. I don't know that I completely agree with Dan (about betting on the Super Bowl) but I certainly wouldn't put any money is a single company's stock unless I was fully prepared to lose that money. I have some play money in individual stocks just for fun but I would never suggest that someone put a significant percentage of their savings in one.
  10. Happy Birthday Jeff!
  11. I'd buy google over bitcoins (in fact, I own some google stock).

  13. Sorry Haj.
  14. Giant Kitty - This Stupid Stuff (my grad student's band's new album - it's pretty fun if you like female fronted post punk/rock music and I approve of anyone doing a Man Size cover)
  15. Looks tasty Colin!

  19. Must be a relief and a great feeling. I remember fondly the day I finally got a shard of glass out of my foot after living with it for 6 months (I had even been to the doctor and gotten x-rays and hadn't found anything).
  20. Had brisket tacos for dinner. They were tasty but they were not in the same league as Naaman's.
  21. I use checks all the time. Buy an old house and you'll find yourself using them all the time.
  22. There is no way that on wearing anything but jeans so smaller phones are a must.
