  1. My family pack of Snow Leopard showed up in the mail today* and I just installed it on my Macbook Pro. Yippee! It seems to be a little faster and I was very happy to get back 14GB of hard drive space. I have been having a lot of problems with Mail not starting properly (i.e. spinning ball of death) when I have a network connection and I am really hoping this will solve that problem. Seems like the added "keyboard viewer" at the top is some indication that a tablet is in the near future. *Actually it seems that I accidentally bought 2 family packs. Now I need to buy 8 more used Macs to install it on.
  2. Dangit, I have spent a fair amount of money on amazon in the last month and a half. Too bad I just saw this sticky! It's bookmarked now though.
  3. I better not accidentally delete my mono pre-order!
  4. Just got the new PS3 "slim" in from the UPS dude. Don't think I'll have time to set it up until the weekend though.
  5. You can stream Netflix, hulu and some other things on PS3 using PlayOn from Media Mall (since the PS3 is a DLNA-compliant device). I have been using PlayOn with PopCorn Hour A-110 network media device for the last 7 months and it is a little buggy (you have to learn some tricks) but works most of the time. It seems to be working better with the recent software updates. PlayOn Digital Media Server | MediaMall Technologies
  6. For some reason I was thinking that Oppo BDP-83 was DLNA-compatible but now I see that it is not. Too bad, that would have bee a nice feature.
  7. Yeah, I know but I don't have that many games. Hmm, I'll have to think about this. The Oppo 980 is a good upconverter. Maybe I'll have to keep both the PS3 and the Oppo HD980.
  8. That is good to know, thanks Nate.
  9. I wonder how the new "slim" PS3 will compare to the Oppo. It is supposed to be much quieter than the the old PS3. Also, it is now only $299 which seems like a deal. I have liked both upconverting Oppo's that I have bought in the past (980 and 970). However, they both started making some noise after owning them for some time (6 months?) which is annoying. I am thinking of getting the PS3 since then I can replace my Popcorn Hour network media tank, PS2 and Oppo 980 with 1 piece of equipment (and have a lot fewer cords). Since I only have a 40" tv, I doubt it will make much difference on the Blu-ray disks.
  10. I just wanted to point out what is probably the obvious: that the B22 from Glass Jar Audio is a kit with no case included. From what I hear, the B22 can end up costing a lot more than $800 after finished, but I may be mistaken. Also, it will take a lot of time to complete even if you have a lot of experience with DIY (from what I have heard).
  11. Yep, touch would have been nice but was not necessary for me since I mainly use it for taking notes and drawing pictures. The most important thing for me was to get the *thinnest* (so that my arm resting on the desk and tablet was as comfortable as possible) and lightest. I used a convertible tablet once for taking notes and it was horrible because it was too thick. The LE1700 was the thinnest I could find (0.74 inches at the "bottom"). However, it seems that the Apple tablet may even be thinner than .74 inches which would be great! The LE1700 also only weights 3.3lbs which is on the lighter side but the Apple tablet would probably be lighter? I also like having a 12" screen. Unfortunately, the Apple tablet will probably be smaller than 12". The screens on the Motion Computing tablets are really wonderful and are great to write on. I have the indoor/outdoor display which is great if you work in an area with flourescent (sp?) lights. I hope they have some good note taking capabilities for the Apple tablet. That is one thing that is really missing on the Modbook (which is pretty clunky if you ask me).
  12. I can guarantee that this product will be coming out soon because of the following.... I have been waiting for an Apple tablet for the last 5 years. Last month, I finally gave up and spent $2500 on a Motion Computing LE1700 tablet (slate) - that I only use for taking notes and drawing some pictures with Adobe Illustrator (my primary laptop is a Macbook Pro). If this is not proof that the Mac tablet is no longer a rumor but a reality, I don't know what is... sigh.
  13. Happy Birthday!

    Palm Pre

I am at the airport using my Palm Pre and mytether to use as a "wireless router" to get internet access on my Macbook Pro (actually I am on the plane waiting for boarding to complete). It works really great and has a pretty fast download speed.

Very nice, thanks for the link to the app!
  16. Thanks but I already contacted heels-6 and ordered some 1.5ft cables Star Quad (cheaper than BJC Belden). Maybe I'll try the Belden next time though.
  17. True, maybe I should go for 2ft to have more wiggle room. I like BJC but his look pretty nice as well. Maybe I will see if heels-6 can make a 2ft one (1m is too long).
  18. I am going to buy a set of 1ft XLR(m)-XLR(f) cable from Blue Jeans Cable to connect my ECD-1 to my HR BUDA. The options are Belden 1800F or Canare L-4E6S Star Quad. Any reason to go for one or the other for such a short run? They are both close to the same price, I guess the Star Quad is a tiny bit more. I have seen that a lot of DIY people use the Star Quad for their cables (along with Mogami) but perhaps that is because it is more readily available and/or easier to work with than the Belden? My impression is that it is not going to make much of a difference which I buy and to just go for the Belden since it is slightly cheaper. Any thoughts? *My amp for now will my right on top of the DAC so 1 ft should be fine as long as the cables are not *too* thick. If they are about the same thickness as the LC-1, it should be fine.
  19. Congrats! The BA is very nice.
  20. Dreadhead did a comparison with a GS-X and 4 board B22 on the other site. Comparison (conclusions posted): Headamp GS-X and Balanced beta22 - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio
  21. I didn't know that.
  22. Well, I feel that the HP100 is very good. The GS-1 in my mind is slightly smoother and more neutral with a slightly better soundstate. They are both very good amps though. I am surprised more people haven't jumped on the HP100 bandwagon.
  23. Yeah, the UDAC does look very tempting. I am eager to hear The Monkey's impression of the UDAC and ECD-1 especially since I just saw that he put the ECD-1 up for sale.
  24. Ok, in case anyone was dying to hear the end of the story and losing sleep over my decision, I just order a BUDA+DPS. I figure this way I get to hear something new and there is no risk with Headroom's 30 day trial! Should ship in 2-4 weeks (probably closer to 4 weeks according to the salesperson on the phone). Now I just need to get rid of my Stello amp and DAC to make up for some of the loss of green.
  25. The WA6 SE (at least with the Sophia 274B rectifier) is a really nice amp. It really drives all cans (that I have tried) with authority. I almost bought one after hearing it at a Houston meet last year but ended up with a WA5LE instead. After listening to it again at CanJam, I am still impressed with it. I haven't heard the WA4 but I did hear the WA2 and was not as impressed with it as the WA6 SE. If you want to spend a little more, the WA22 was even sweeter than the WA6SE!
