Celebrating my first Ph.D. student's first job offer (she just called me and told me about it) with some Parker 27. Jobs in academics are not so easy to come by nowadays so this is very exciting indeed.

Got the Aeronaut today and it is great. I tried taking pictures of it but the colors are not coming out right... the blue is more purple and darker than is portrayed in these pictures. I will try to take some in the natural light at some later point. Also, the Absolute strap is so much more awesome than I thought it would be!

I have heard the Baratza Maestro recommended. How much better is the Virtuoso. I wonder if it will last longer and be worth double the cost. I was thinking of going with the Capresso Infinity Conical Burr Grinder. Anyone know anything good/bad about it? The hand grinder is not going to fly. My husband makes and grinds the coffee in the morning and he is not going to use a hand grinder.

Question for the coffee experts: I want to buy my husband a new coffee grinder for Valentine's Day. Right now we have a Cuisinart Burr grinder but it is having some problems. We drink drip coffee (pour almost boiling water from a tea kettle into a porcelain cone filter with a paper filter). We don't need it for espresso. Any suggestions of good grinder than don't cost a million dollars. I would prefer to have a quiet grinder if possible.

Never had any Michter's Rye (or bourbon). How does it compare to other ryes (or bourbons if that is what you are drinking)?

I agree that it is lusher, and quite a bit smoother but still quite sweet. I like it better than the 7 star, just not sure it is twice as good. The bottle is real pretty though. Alka Seltzer doesn't sound so good. Tonight I made two more Anvil drinks: Knickerbocker 2 oz Vizcaya rum 1 tbsp Monin rasberry syrup 2 tspn Senior Curacao 1/2 oz lime juice I really liked this drink although I do admit that it was really sweet and girlie. Rum Swizzle I finally got some Falernum so I was able to try this one. 2 oz Gosling's Black Seal Rum 3/4 oz John Taylor's Velvet Falernum 3/4 oz lime juice Didn't like this one nearly as much. My guess is that the Falernum has quite a bit of ginger in it and I am not a big fan of ginger. Guess I am not going to be a big fan of all the drinks with Ginger Beer in them.
