  1. I like anything called Peat Monster, how is it? Marc: What is this blog (underhill lounge)? So, I guess I haven't noticed. Yes, some of us having been working through Anvil 100 list (from the Houston bar) for some time.... Jim and Al finished long ago.... I have to work so unlike them so I am way behind... Marc decided to go through Dr. Cocktail's book so he is also behind... some of us (cough cough Mike, Gene....) are not manly enough to make cocktails. You have a lot of catching up to do! Good stuff. No, but I haven't looked. I'll ask them about it the next time I am there. ------ Tonight I made my first my "raw egg" cocktail - I need to make more of these.... I like the frothiness! Anvil # 70 Pink Lady 3/2 oz Bluecoat gin 1/2 oz Daron XO Calvados Egg white from 1 egg Lemon juice from 1/2 of a lemon 1 tsp homemade grenadine Add ice and shake like a mad(wo)man!
  2. Al: That looks good, I am jealous. Jim and Marc: Thanks for the rum recommendations. I checked my store and they have the Smith and Cross, Wray and Nephew white overproof, and various El Dorado rums so I will pick up some of those. I did find some forget about the Goslings I had in the cabinet (need a bigger cabinet) so I am not bad off as I thought. Tonight with dinner, I opened a bottle of 2009 Columbia Crest Indian Wells Cabernet Sauvignon. This was a really nice was, especially for the price (~$15). *Anvil TIme* Monkey Gland 3/2 oz Bluecoat gin 3/2 oz fresh squeezed orange juice 1 tsp homemade grenadine 1 tsp Vieux Carre absinthe This drink is pretty nice and much better than the name sounds.
  3. The ones where you feel the most barefoot... no shoes at all. Good stuff Jim!
  4. Looking through my liquor cabinet, I realize that I am very low on rum. I have about a 1/2 bottle of Zacapa 23. Any suggestions would be welcome for dark, light, overproofed, etc. rum for mixing and sipping.
  5. YUM! Good stuff Al, Jim and Marc! Earlier this evening: Victory Yakima Glory "a dark IPA" on tap with a juicy short rib and cheese griddled sandwich on sourdough Now: The Liberal Cocktail 1. This drink is fantastic!!! 2. See #1 1 oz 17 yr Vintage Bourbon (94 proof) 1 oz Carpano Antica 1/2 tsp Torani Amer 1/4 tsp Regan Orange Bitters
  6. They might have two different gift packs. I am pretty sure the one I saw had jam but I cannot confirm that since I didn't buy it.
  7. Mike, those ribs look fantastic. I really do need to get a smoker! Do you have both a BGE and a Traeger now? Which do you prefer?
  8. Very. I might put a tiny bit more next time.
  9. @ Jim: Haven't tried the Tito's yet but thought I should have some in house being in Texas... but now that I have heard Marc's comments on Titos I am probably not going to be in a big hurry to try it. Also, be careful about the Luxardo gift pack, the one they had at my liquor store had cherry jam, not cherries (although the cherry jam is probably good).
  10. I need to get some cream so I can make the Rum Alexander, that looks good. Tonights drinks: 1) Negroni-ish drinks Dougroni 1 oz Bluecoat gin 1 oz Cynar 1 oz Dubonnet I made this and then realized it was too sweet so I added a bit more gin to it and a dash of Angostura bitters... much better. Ordinary Negroni 1 oz Bluecoat gin 1 oz Campari 1 oz Dolin Rouge After making these two, I decided that the Dougroni was still too sweet for me so I tried Cynar + Dolin Rouge Nedougroni. Nice! I am not so sure I am so fond of the Dubonnet, I'll have to try it in a few more drinks. 2) Anvil Time Twentieth Century Cocktail 3/2 oz Bluecoat gin 1/2 oz Marie Brizard Creme de Cacao 1/2 oz Lillet Blanc 1/2 oz lemon juice I liked this quite a bit! Next time I will try it with Cocci. @Al: I'll forgive you this one last time but next time take pics!!!!
  11. The Black Louth isn't nearly as good as the Redbreast 15 or 12 in my opinion, it brighter as less refined. That said, it is perfectly drinkable on its own and perfectly fine for mixing. But you are right, I should try the Redbreast in cocktails.
  12. Good stuff Al but I am disappointed with the lack of pictures. Colin: How do you like the 2008 Avalon? I bought a few bottles of the 2008 yesterday but haven't tried it yet. I hope it is as good a value as previous years.
  13. Happy Birthday Naaman!!!! Glad you are able to celebrate it with your loved ones.
  14. The Redbreast 15 is goooooood. A Dougroni is the menu for tomorrow!
  15. The Liberal looks awesome Jim! I have a friend of mine that is visiting who is a cocktail fan so I got some more ingredients from the store to work on the Anvil list. Started with a Blackthorn before our delicious barbequed ribeye steak dinner 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters 2 Dashes Vieux Carre Absinthe 1 oz 8yr Black Louth Irish Whiskey 1 oz Dolin Dry Vermouth I thought it was quite interesting, and good. Should have bought some Redbreast 12 to make it with but I bought the Redbreast 15 instead and didn't want to waste it in a cocktail that I may or may not have liked. Next was Mai Tai that was stolen by the hubbie (he does like those sweet rummie drinks, I liked it quite a bit too!) 2 oz Vizcaya rum 1/2 oz Monin almond syrup (sub for orgeat) 1/2 oz Cointreau (sub for curacao) 1/2 oz fresh lime juice Last drink of the night Rusty Nail 3/2 oz Macallan 12 scotch 1/2 oz Drambuie I would like to try this with an Islay scotch.
  16. Good stuff like Redbreast 15 and other liquid goodnesses.
  17. That price doesn't seem too good since you could get a non refurbished new 13" MBP for that price which will be faster and have a newer battery. I would probably go with a refurb from Apple or buy one of the old model MPB from Macmall or somebody like that.
  18. I am tempted to buy this since I will probably buy another Aeronaut (one for me and one for the hubby for longer trips). Not a super great deal but it does come with the Absolute Strap. Thought I would post it in case anyone is interested. My linkhttp://cgi.ebay.com/Tom-Bihn-Aeronaut-Travel-Bag-w-Absolute-Shoulder-Strap_W0QQitemZ220745304359QQcategoryZ16085QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D2%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7350536943851247207#ht_632wt_1141
  19. I was just about to make a Duchin until I read your post Marc. *Anvil/Dr. Cocktail time* Pegu Club (Anvil list) 2 oz Bluecoat gin (the last of my Bluecoat) 1/2 oz Senior Curacao 1/2 oz fresh lime juice 1 dash Regan orange bitters 1 dash Angostura bitters Barnum Cocktail 2 oz Old Raj Gin 1 oz R&W Apricot liqueur 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice 2 dashes Angostura bitters I liked the Barnum better but probably would only use 3/4oz Apricot liqueur next time.
  20. Please fax some Michter's and some Cynar.
