  1. Took my Epic to the store and the woman said that it was normal. I listened to her Evo and it sounded similar. Perhaps I am just too picky. The phone is starting to grow on me.
  2. Thanks for the "thoughts" Brent. I am getting used to the size and having a physical keyboard is nice especially when walking and typing. I am most concerned about the call quality since I think I may have a bad phone. I think I will take to the Sprint phone and see if I can switch it out and if that helps. It sounds like the sound you would get from a speakerphone on a phone, not the handset. Also, the phone seems to be picking up too much background noise from the other callers side and it makes a kind of rustling annoying noise that I know will drive me crazy in the end.
  3. Ok, decided that I wanted a keyboard so I went to the Sprint store yesterday and got an Epic. Some thoughts: - Not sure I really like the call quality (although the epic is supposed to have good call quality), there is sometimes a bit of static and voices sound a bit digital. I am guessing the speaker is kinda crappy. I wonder if it is just my phone or is this true of most of them. - Android is so much nicer than WebOS. - The phone is HUGE. It is nice to have the large screen and keyboard but I am not sure it is really pocketable for me. It is a bit of a stretch for me to reach to the middle keys on the keyboard with my thumbs. If I take it back and want something slightly smaller I could go for the Shift (I didn't like the feel of how the shift keyboard slid and can I am not sure how well swype works on Shift). - The screen is really beautiful- - I don't like the plastic feel of the phone. Also, I don't like how you can wiggle the top and bottle portions of the phone (because of having the sliding keyboard). I am afraid that the sliding keyboard will lead to more static in calls because connections will come loose but perhaps this is something I shouldn't worry about. Also, I worry about having more moving parts because these are always the first to break on a phone. - Swype is awesome! I think I could probably live with a physical keyboard. So I haven't decided whether I am keeping the phone. Options: 1) Keep the phone - has a big screen and keyboard 2) Get another phone - Get the Evo Shift. The keyboard is more my size but I the phone is older and I am not sure the processor is quite as fast but maybe this wouldn't matter in real time, I am not sure Swype would work as well. This would be more more pocketable since the length of the phone seems the biggest problem for me. Also, I have read that the call quality on the Shift isn't great. - Wait for the Nexus S. All google phone so no bloatware and no keyboard would make it thinner. Would be the first for upgrades to Android. Still would be just as tall as the Epic so maybe it would still not be so great in the pocket.
  4. Oooh, nice. I am very curious about this amp. Let us know what you think Ric.
  5. That is fucked up Al! It has been a tough week, but it time for me to get my priorities straight so it is back to Anvil. Japanese 2 ounces cognac 1/2 ounce orgeat syrup (sub almond syrup) 3 dashes aromatic bitters Pretty nice but I may have put a little too much bitters.
  6. As much as I would like to get the Air now, I am going to try and wait (til June... once July arrives, there is no telling what I will do). I did just get a Tom Bihn ID and need something big to carry in it on my next trip.
  7. Al, glad to hear about a possibility of good news in the future. I will keep my fingers crossed.
  8. Very nice Brent and Nate! I still haven't bought an Android phone. I am thinking of getting the Google Nexus S. It will only be a single core phone but we have a Sprint Premier Gold plan so I should be able to get another phone after 12 months (once I call up Sprint and tell them that I should be the primary phone on the plan). By that time, there should be plenty of dual core options (and I don't like the look of the Evo 3D phone).
  9. Jim and Dan: Honestly, if you didn't have an Air right now and had to choose between waiting to see if a possibly faster processor comes out in June (which of course could be totally off) and getting one of the current models, what do you think you would do? You don't have to answer of course if you don't feel like speculating. Also, do you think it is worth it to upgrade to the 1.6Ghz?
  10. I tried to play a movie on Netflix via Chrome on a computer that didn't have Silverlight installed and it just told me I had to install Silverlight...
  11. How do you use flash with Netflix? What does amazon use?
  12. Dan and Jim (or anyone else who has an air). What model do you have? If you have the 1.4Ghz 11", do you have any trouble playing Netflix on the Air (played in HD vs non-HD)? Seems that Silverlight "requires:" Intel Core Duo 1.83-gigahertz (GHz) or higher processor. Since I have a couple of work trips planned in the next month and a half, I was thinking it might be useful to have the Air sooner rather than later. The only real complaint I have read is with running Netflix in HD, some say it is choppy (although, maybe it was just their internet connection). Edit: Have you tried Amazon instant streaming. That is flash based so don't know whether that would be better or worse.
  13. Nice! I spent 3 weeks in Budapest in 2004, it was a blast. I do want to visit Prague someday.
  14. I assume you mean the small cafe bag (they also have a medium and large). I just got the small one last week and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it fit the ipad.
  15. I don't know which would be worse: living in Dallas or commuting 8 hours a day.
  16. Same day delivery for $3.99 via amazon? Guess you have to be in NYC? NM: I found my answer. So not fair. Why do they have same day delivery in Indianapolis and not Houston??? Guess they must have a warehouse there.
  17. Yep, amazon has started using Ensenda here and I am not a fan to say the least (I have problems with tracking and getting things in 2 days with amazon prime). When I order something of value at amazon or need it in a 2 day window, I end up pay for 1 day shipping. So far, they have never shipped something 1 day via Ensenda. I think people who are actually paying for an amazon prime account should get a super prime account where they request the carrier used.
  18. That looks good Marc. Me: Drinking some fine RO filtered Houston water with my jello. Still have the damn sore throat.
  19. Dinny: I am so jealous. I need a vacation. Al: That is truly horrible.
