  1. Science says: Sipping them neat, here is my ranking. Casa Noble anejo >> Avion anejo > Don Julio anejo >> Herradura anejo > Espolon The Casa Noble is just so good. The vanilla and butterscotch flavors and sweet smell make this a really wonderful sipping tequila. Also, it is really smooth. There is no contest in my mind that this beats the others. The Don Julio and Avion are both really smooth but the Don Julio is a little too subdued. The Avion has a brightness to the flavor that is really nice. Maybe somewhere between a good anejo and reposado? I am not so familiar with reposado though. Both very nice sipping tequilas. The Herradura and Espolon both have a bit of a funny smell to them. They are both pretty peppery. The Espolon is much harsher than the Herradura. I bet it would make a fine margarita though and would probably be a great choice at <$20! (That is 20 dollars not 20 factorial dollars which would be absurd.) I wouldn't really enjoy sipping either of these though (especially the Espolon). Oh yeah, after tasting these, I really want to try the Casa Noble reposado now. That will probably be my next tequila purchase.
  2. Doing a little taste test... for science.
  3. Nope, didn't notice that. I picked it up at the little local (non-specs) store near my house so they could have been different. I went in thinking I would pick up the Partida or Avion anejo. I decided to get the Avion anejo and Espolon reposado. They guy at the store said they have been selling a lot of both brands (mostly the blanco though since they do a lot of wholesale to bars/restaurants). I found out later that the Avion was featured in "Entourage" which I guess is some popular show on tv. Hope it doesn't suck. I suppose I should try at least one of them tonight.
  4. Bought some earlier today to try out.
  5. Oooh, nice fridge! Sorry about the problems Wayne. good luck breathing. I assume you have little buildings called hospitals there?

  7. But Thursday is your whiskey day...
  8. Next time try a Vicotini.
  9. Hope you can get a machine quickly Wayne! That doesn't sound like a good situation.
  10. Have to agree with Mikey and Al Greg. Very nice Al. I want those cute little St George gins. Wish they sold everything in 200ml bottles.
  11. Not from the 90's but still good: Ardbeg Ten. Cheers!
  12. That sounds good Jim.
  13. I opened up the bottle of Rain vodka I bought last weekend. It is really excellent - best I've tried so far. First had some "neat" and then in this drink that I don't dare call a martini. Vodkatini Vodkouth 2 oz Rain Vodka 1/3 oz Dolin Dry 1 dash Regan's orange bitters grapefruit peel
  14. Got a hunk of RRS metal yesterday and the Tokina lens today. I am glad I splurged on the RRS L-plate, it is really nice to have such a perfect fit. Tried a little macro shooting today, after I figured out how to use the lens. I was just shooting in the front yard, nothing interesting. Tried taking some hand held macro shots (with manual) and I just couldn't get anything. Then I tried with my cheap plastic $30 tripod and it was better but still not great. Cannot wait until the tripod shows up! I can see how the VR would be helpful (although it probably doesn't help enough if you are doing really close up shots). The Tokina seems really well built and even survived UPS (although the B&H box did not). It doesn't make nearly as much noise or hunt as much as the reviews would lead you to believe.
  15. Happy Birthday Deepak! Sorry to have to give you another birthday beating last Sunday.
  16. Manhattan with Sazerac Rye, Vya sweet vermouth and cherry bitters. The Vya is a lot better than I thought it would be. Still like the Cocci Torino (and Carpano Antica) better but it is definitely a good alternative if you cannot get one of those. Also, it probably mixes better in other drinks than the Carpano Antica (and comes in a mere 750ml bottle). I am now tempted to try the Vya dry vermouth.
  17. Heh, I saw that yesterday and almost picked it up to make Margaritas for the party I was having.
  18. Not so sure I believe you... I will have to try it out myself.
  19. Please fax! Pass the popcorn Jim.
  20. Are you planning to Sous Vide or just eat them rare, right out of the paper sack?
  21. By the way Greg, what pillow and mattress covers do you use? Every mattress cover we buy eventually rips or disintegrates.
  22. Agreed! The more I drink it, the more I like it. It seems to also mix well.
