Got the mStand Rain stand today. It is about 1 inch higher than I would like (it is the perfect height for the hubby's 13" MBP though) but other than that, it is great.

Cool story. I like owls. We have an owl that likes to hang out in our backyard sometimes.

Cardamaro #2: Bols Cardamaro 3/2 oz Bols Genever 1 oz Cardamaro 3/4 oz lemon juice 1/4 oz Cointreau OK but I like the first Cardamaro drink better.

Noted, in fact that picture is etched in my mind. Opened up the Cardamaro. Quite nice. I decided to try a manhattan-like drink (the Cardamaro has some similarities to a sweet vermouth). 1 oz Rittenhouse 25yr Rye (100 proof) 1/3 oz Cardamaro I might use a rye at 90 proof or more maybe a little more Cardamaro next time but this is a nice drink. Next up Bols Cardoon.

*Grilled Ribeye* plus other stuff and red wine. Do I need to mention that it was excellent?

One word: Griottines (Morello cherries in Kirsch) They are so good and totally worth their cost. There is about a million cherries in the 11.8oz jar. The only problem is that I find myself wanting to eat them when I open the fridge.

Don't know if it is the best solution but you could get an Airport Express for $99 and wireless stream to the DAC (it has optical out). Works well with itunes. I think it will only handles 16/44 though if you happen to have a lot of high-res stuff. Also, there is a slight lag between when you click on a song on the laptop and when it gets to the DAC. Not usually a problem though (only if I am randomly shuffling through songs trying to find something I'm in the mood for, then the lack of speed can annoy me). If I am listening to a full album, it is not a problem. Edit: The easiest solution is of course, to get an Macbook Air or Mac Mini.

Got an email from Continental telling me kindly that they had changed a flight of mine in Jan from 4:30pm to 1pm (I guess they decided to cancel the non-stop 4:30 flight). That's all nice but I have to be in a meeting from 12-1pm. Fuckers. Now I have to call them up and argue with them. I hate dealing with people.

Approved! What is that stuff like Al? I picked up a few things in Austin this weekend, one of which was St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram. Wow, that stuff is good. I bet it would be nice in some sort of rum drink (or even just to put in some tea on a cold winter night). Black River Sidecar 3/2 oz Germain Robin Brandy 1/4 oz St Elizabeth Allspice Dram 1/2 oz lemon juice (recipe called for 3/4 oz) 1 tsp Agave syrup I like this.

True, it is quite unfair to hold cities to the same standards as SF. It was *much* better than going into some random loud bar on 6th street. [i was just annoyed that they didn't take me more seriously.] Also, I did have a really good margarita (Don Julio reposado + Grand Marnier) earlier with a delicious dinner at Fonda San Miguel (they had some pretty nice drink specialties there as well). By the way Marc, I picked up a few things at Austin Wine Merchant today, thanks the suggestion. Edit: Let's all move to SF. I am sure that Al won't mind us taking over Mayberry while we land on our feet.

Wow Mikey, that is quite a collage! Went to Peche in Austin, it was ok. Guess I am a little picky when it comes to cocktails. I asked them to make me something special with rye and they made me something on the menu (The Waterloo). It was pretty good but nothing extraordinary. The Rye didn't have enough kick in my mind - I didn't see what Rye they used. http://www.pecheaustin.com/ I did try some Germain-Robin absinthe which was nice but not as good as St. George IMO.
