  1. Manhattanlike beverage (shouldn't there be a special name for a Manhattan with bourbon instead of rye?) 2 oz Blanton's bourbon 1 oz Cocchi di Torino sweet vermouth 2 dashes Fee Brothers Whiskey Barrel Aged bitters 2 Griottines cherries This is a nice drink. I do like the Blanton's. The Whiskey Barrel Aged bitters are awesome.
  2. Looks pretty good John (next time get some Rain vodka though). Margarita (Don Julio Anejo + Cointreau) here.
  3. That is great! As long as everyone with a bad hip get to order everyone around and hit them with their cane. Shall I bring a sword cane for the BBQ?
  4. Finally got some 3 Floyds down here (sorta).
  5. Ouch, 6 weeks is a long time. I hope to talk to the physician's assistant today. Hopefully she can answer my questions about how long she expects me to be out. I have heard a week or two if you have a sedentary job. I went ahead and made an appt for surgery for November 15. I'll cancel my work trip to NYC on the 16th. I expect that I will be able to travel home for Christmas on Dec 20 (if not I may postpone the surgery since my brother is having his baby early December and I want to be there to see my new niece). I hope that I will be able to travel to Atlanta for a talk I am giving on Dec 10th. I don't want to have to cancel too many trips.
  6. Drowning my sorrows in Don Julio Anejo tequila.
  7. The Griottines remind me of eating cherry pie.
  8. Decided to pick up some local brew in a can (Southern Star Buried Hatchet Stout). To my surprise, it was quite good!!! Glad to see more craft beer being produced in TX.
  9. Unfortunately it is the right. How long were you out of work? I hope I wouldn't have to be away for more than a week. I do have a pretty anti-(labor intensive). I could get a recliner put in my office. I think Brent is right, a cane and vicodin is definitely the way to go.
  10. Good luck Al! Yes. Seems like there is still a long recovery time because of the lack of blood flow to that region. I have been looking around and seeing a lot of variations on how long they expect you to be on crutches, how long you have to go without driving... etc. I don't want to be an invalid for 8 weeks. Also having to sleep on my back for several weeks makes me tired thinking about it. I guess I will be on a lot of drugs... maybe I will be able to sleep better. Sigh. Guess I will have to get that Segway after all.
  11. Shit Brent, guess you are doing well considering! I am thinking that maybe I can cancel one of my not-so-essential trips to do the surgery. That would put me in town for a few weeks. I should be off crutches after that. I'll have to call the doc tomorrow to what I would need to do beforehand and when he has openings. Sorry about your hip pain Al. Sorry about the aging Jim. Thanks for the support guys.
  12. Brugral 1888 Limited Edition Congrats to the Cards - good game! I need to try the Noah's Mill.
  13. Marc: Let me know how you like the Springbank and brandy. Having a Maison Surrenne Petit Champagne and Germain Robin Coast Road Reserve taste-off. I prefer the G-R but they are both very good.
  14. Went back to the orthopedic surgeon to find out about the MRI results. Turns out I have a hip labral tear. Options are (1) cortisone injections plus physical therapy plus probably no squats or sports that would cause it to tear more (2) surgery + physical therapy. I am leaning towards (2) becuase I don't want to have to go through life being a sloth and not being able to do weightlifting and play other sports. The problem would be to find a time that I could get it done. I am supposed to travel every other week until around January 10. There is usually about 2 weeks of crutches after surgery. Then I am teaching two classes in spring so it would be hard to take time off. This sucks.
  15. Well, I don't know much about brandy (you may remember me asking for cognac recommendations not that long ago) but I thought it was really nice and would definitely recommend it. I will have to have a little brandy tasting tonight to verify its deliciousness.
