Pepper please - suggestions for a pepper mill that is
No, I have a nice looking pepper and salt mill for the table. This will be mainly for kitchen duty (I use Kosher salt for cooking so no salt mill needed in the kitchen).

Do you like a particular dildo looking one? Those Vic Firth ones look pretty good. They get great reviews.

Pepper please - suggestions for a pepper mill that is
I would like to get a new pepper mill for Christmas, a good one, since all three of mine all suck. Any suggestions? Things I want: Lasts forever Can change grind from coarse to fine Holds a lot of pepper Easy to refill (the peppercorns always fall all over the floor when I fill mine since the opening is too small) Not "made in China" (you know what I mean) I don't like the ones with little handles on top (would prefer a standard turn the top type) Will not stop working with large peppercorns

Dinny, I personally would get an 11" Air and a decent external monitor. I have a 15" mbp that never leaves my desk now that I have the Air - it is hooked up to a 20" monitor. If the laptop is hooked up to a monitor, it won't matter what size the screen is. I find that the 11" is fine for travel or sitting on the couch surfing the web.

MacBook Pro or Macbook air need advice
Get the Air - the flash storage of the Air is going to make it seem much snappier than the standard Serial ATA Drive (standard HD) in the Pro. Plus it is lighter which I find convenient even for just walking around the house. You could upgrade the Pro to a SSD but that would cost another $200 (assuming you get it from Apple).

And now what did you do TODAY?
Went to install the PWD MKII upgrade but when I started looking through the parts, I noticed that one of the parts (the I2S cable) looked a little off - one of the wires looked a bit too crimped for my liking - reminds me of Grado headphone cables. I asked PS Audio to send me a new I2S cable. Do you think that was unreasonable?

At what point will it be reasonable to arm our teachers to protect students?
I just wanted to add that my heart goes out to the families and friends of the victims... heck, my heart goes out to everyone. This is just so tragic. (Perhaps there should be another thread for this sort of thing though.) Edit: We also really need better mental health programs in the US. I suppose that is obvious.

This! Not all teachers are stable. Also, why should put teachers in that sort of position!

Ipod Touch / Iphone
Just realized that the Nano no longer is small and cute and has a clip and Apple only has refurbished 8GB (no 16GB for sale) now. Hope mine doesn't break.

Budget computer for 10 year old niece
Yeah, given that she doesn't have *any* computer, let alone one with a SSD drive in it, I think it'll be fine.

We can certainly download unofficial transcripts, not sure about official ones. I can't believe that none of your letter writers asked why they hadn't received an email with the request, I certainly would have if the applicant had told me the date.

Budget computer for 10 year old niece
OK, so I started thinking and looking more into Chromebooks and as long as she has internet at her mom's house (I think she does but I just need to make sure), I think this might be a good way to go. They have flash I think so she should be able to play barbie.com and things like that. Also, there seem to be a lot of games in the app store now and one can use google docs offline. Also (for now), she shouldn't have to worry about getting viruses and slowing down her computer. If she breaks it, it is also only $200 so not much lost. Unfortunately, I soon found out that they are sold out mostly, at least the nicer Samsung $250 model is. But then I noticed that the Acer (a bit clunkier with standard harddrive with 320 GB instead of 16GB SSD) is available at google play for $200 which is damn cheap. So fearing that it would go out of stock, I went ahead and ordered it and figured that I could send it back if I decide against it (although google does have a 15% stock fee). https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/devices/acer-c7-chromebook.html What do you think? If this is a bad idea, I have a couple of days to cancel since it says that it will ship in 3-5 days. I would rather cancel before it is shipped to avoid the restocking fee and shipping costs.

Budget computer for 10 year old niece
I have permission to get my niece a laptop so if you guys see any good deals, let me know. I think I am going to focus on 11" ish laptops. The cheapest Intel i3 or AMD A-series I am seeing see to be around $500 whereas I saw some before for around $400 (maybe all the good deals are gone?). There is still a chance that my brother will get her a tablet (in which case I am not so sure that I will get her a laptop) but I am not sure that is happening (and probably don't know til last minute) so they place has to have a good return policy.
