  1. LOL Well, I don't eat tuna or any other seafood but that is just cuz I don't likey... not because of the mercury. If I start saying really weird stuff, you can blame it on [Freddy] Mercury.
  2. Broke a compact fluorescent bulb which trying to remove the bulb just before I was going to bed (and I was really tired). It broke in my hands. Then as I was picking up pieces with my bare hands, I freaked out and remembered that they had some sort of poisonous substance in them. So, of course, to the internet and found out that they contained mercury and then read about how I should have left the room, how I should have worn gloves to clean it up, how I should throw away the clothes, etc. .... I ended up opening the window and cleaning up a little with a paper towel (I couldn't find any gloves - I am at my parents' house and I couldn't find any gloves) and some sticky tape. Also, opened a window for a while until I was sufficiently frozen and then closed it (being high 30s out side). The bulb broke on the nightstand next to the bed. Had a horrible sleep worried about getting mercury poisoning. Then I did a little more reading and my guess is that there is not all that much mercury in CF bulb and the epa and other sites are just being extra cautious. So I am a little less freaked out but still not 100%. Sigh. I hate the fact that I worry about stuff so much.

Yep, the pair of X10 I bought last year have a cable problem. The sound sometimes goes out our crackles. I was too lazy to send them back especially after others complained that they had to send them in several times. The ones I bought several years ago were fine - wish I wouldn't have sold them. I wouldn't buy another pair for certain.
  4. Looking at this again - the Intel looked pretty sweet but that was sold out by the time I got there. The spill resistant keyboard and the build quality of Lenovo would have been nice. I figure if my niece takes care of this one, I will get her a better one next year or the year after. I went by Best Buy and tried out the Chromebooks. They both seemed pretty speedy and should probably stay that way with Chrome OS. Hopefully that is all she needs. I suppose I should look into giving her some $$$ for the Chrome apps store. The Samsung (with 16B flash memory) had a nicer keyboard and better camera. It was also a little cooler/quieter. The Acer (standard 320GB harddrive) seemed a little bit better in the build quality - I felt that the lid of the Samsung might come off if not taken care of. It was hard to tell how fast they will be in real life because the wifi at BestBuy was slow (I assume it was the fault of the wifi based on the speedtest I did). They had a Samsung at the store that I could have bought but I decided to stick with the cheaper $200 Acer since I didn't feel like carrying the laptop on the plane.
  5. Thanks but I got a Chromebook for her and I think I'll stick with that. Hopefully it works out well.
  6. After a bit of work with the pairing, it is working well so far. Thanks. As long as I have Amarra/itunes automatically startup at login, I shouldn't have to screen share until I need to purge the memory.
  7. Those Unicorn pepper mills also seem to have great reviews.
  8. Doesn't that stream the music to your computer and then back? Also, I'm not sure how to use Airplay to send it back to the other computer. Basically, I have a Mac Mini hooked up to my main headphone setup and I would like to control itunes without streaming music. I have used Airport Express in the past connected to the DAC but I didn't like the lag (when I clicked on a song and when it started playing). Screen sharing with the mini and my other computers is ok but really slow and frustrating at times. Remote on ipad is wonderful but I don't always have my ipad with me at the computer. I will look at the itunes-remote linked above but it looks a bit clunky. Marc: Is this the same method you use?
  9. I feel like I've asked this before but.... Is there a program for Mac OS X that works like Remote on IOS (to control itunes on another networked computer)? Screen sharing drives me crazy because it is too laggy.
  10. Here is the thread that you were referring to started by Jacob. The site was pepper-passion.com, which is what Greg posted above. I think I need that pocket peppermill for the office! http://pepper-passion.com/pocket-peppermill
  11. No, I have a nice looking pepper and salt mill for the table. This will be mainly for kitchen duty (I use Kosher salt for cooking so no salt mill needed in the kitchen).
  12. Do you like a particular dildo looking one? Those Vic Firth ones look pretty good. They get great reviews.
  13. I would like to get a new pepper mill for Christmas, a good one, since all three of mine all suck. Any suggestions? Things I want: Lasts forever Can change grind from coarse to fine Holds a lot of pepper Easy to refill (the peppercorns always fall all over the floor when I fill mine since the opening is too small) Not "made in China" (you know what I mean) I don't like the ones with little handles on top (would prefer a standard turn the top type) Will not stop working with large peppercorns
  14. I love my ipad, but if I had to choose just one, I would choose a laptop.
  15. Congrats on the weight loss Vicki!
  16. Dinny, I personally would get an 11" Air and a decent external monitor. I have a 15" mbp that never leaves my desk now that I have the Air - it is hooked up to a 20" monitor. If the laptop is hooked up to a monitor, it won't matter what size the screen is. I find that the 11" is fine for travel or sitting on the couch surfing the web.
  17. Get the Air - the flash storage of the Air is going to make it seem much snappier than the standard Serial ATA Drive (standard HD) in the Pro. Plus it is lighter which I find convenient even for just walking around the house. You could upgrade the Pro to a SSD but that would cost another $200 (assuming you get it from Apple).
